Hello MAL! I have nothing to brag about here, but for what it's worth:
I got into anime in the 1980s, and joined an anime club back then. We actually went to members homes and watched laserdiscs and VHS/Beta tapes. Most of the tapes would be considered unwatchable by today's standards, being multiple generation fan dubs, traded in person or through the post. When Akira came out, it melted my brain. I would pop the tape in over and over and max out the stereo on the motorbike chase... the soundtrack is still outstanding, all these years later.
I got involved with RL stuff, left the group, and grew older (but didn't grow up).
Cut to present:
The download scene made seeing obscure titles that would have been unobtainable back then often very easy now. I am going to be in the process of catching up for a LONG time!
Part of my goal on myanimelist is to keep track of what I have already seen, because there are so many titles that I can lose track without some reference point.
Another part is that I'd like to add some small reviews of things I've seen. Usually I'll only bother reviewing if there are no reviews for that title already, or if my viewpoint is vastly different. Hopefully even a couple of people will find a review useful, or get a laugh.
I do love newer titles, but I also have a big love for the older shows, many of which are largely forgotten or (IMHO) very underrated by today's audience.
I am hard-pressed to think of a genre I dislike. I care less for the genre than the story that is told, and how well that is done.
That's all for now. NIce to meet you all
