You're not missing anything with the Mask of Deception anime adaptation. While the first Uta anime is acceptable at best, the Deception anime is irredeemable as fuck, especially the last few episodes.

I still recommend playing Prelude because you'll get more attached to characters because more scenes and alot of those moments got screwed in the anime sadly. Take your time though. Dunno when the anime will even come out anyway lol so you have time

I don't advise it but you don't seem totally motivated to do Prelude right now XD So trying to give you a break in between adaptations so you're not completely burnt lol

Prelude is a good game with alot of fights (yes it has gameplay) and god tier music.

Worst case scenario you can do Deception then Prelude or something but eh...
And I recommend playing the whole thing sadly

Whoever told you the first anime can substitute the first game is a bullshitter. The anime had a really important scene cut out which made a big plothole among other things. The anime was only recommended back in the day but with Prelude to the Fallen out there's no excuse to skip it
So yes i highly recommend playing the first game (Prelude to the Fallen specifically since it has more content). Deception and Truth has a good amount of callbacks from the first game especially Truth (which i am on right now).
