That's the point I'm trying to convey 😅

Yeah, I agree Ascension is very much slept on. I unfortunately can't remember much about GoS and II and I, since it's been ages since I've played them. For P5, I guarantee you, you aren't missing anything by not playing the original release. In fact, I'd argue that you're deliberately making the game experience less enjoyable at this point.

Royal added:
-New Social Links/Confidants (Some improved) + Characters
-For the existing characters, they gave them MUCH more depth (Especially my favorite of the bunch)
-One of my major gripes with the original game was actually for the Velvet Room; you needed to get the Strength Confidant to Lvl 10 before you could craft Personas which are a higher level than you. Now, you only need to get the Confidant to Lvl 5, and this can be done at minimum Lvl 23 for you character (This means you can now have much more fun messing with Personas earlier)
-New Personas + Recipes for Personas
-New Combat Elements
-Baton Pass used to just give a slight damage increase (You target an enemy's weakness, switch turns to another party member and get a damage increase). Now, for every baton pass, you get a damage multiplier with the last one being completely free of SP (Mana, basically).
-Party members can now learn skills through accessories + Jazz Club
-New things to do in the life aspect (A whole new area on top of that)
-Kichijoji as a whole gives you access to some absurd combat-boosts
-Thieves den
-An entire extra area for looking at the gallery and art of the game, while listening to banger tracks
-You can also play cards and listen to character interactions, if you're into that sort of thing
-Whole new story segments (While the additions aren't as huge as P4, they still are noticable)
-All the DLC of the original game for Persona and SMT fans for free (In Vanilla, you have to buy all of it)

I beg you, don't play the original P5, it's a waste of time. And since it's expanded version is on sale right now, it's cheaper regardless.

I'll add more on to this comment later, since I have to get going right about now.

For Zero escape, this guy did a great video on it

There's some light spoilers for the Prologue of 999, so keep that in mind
TheAceAttorney Nov 15, 2021 10:54 AM
-The first adaptation of Fate/Stay Night, to me at least, feels like an OVA series. I get that it covers the Fate route, which is all lovey-dovey and happy, but still...Thankfully, Fate/Zero and HF brought it back. UBW is great, and you need to watch it before HF. HF spoils Zero and UBW, it also has "callbacks," to the original Fate route (2006)

-NANA is unfortunately in a strange place. The Manga has been on hiatus for 7 years, since Ai Yazawa (the series created) caught an illness which severely affects her hands. The Anime, on the other hand, only tells up to the half-way point of the Manga. Don't get me wrong, for what's out now, all of it is incredible. It is a heavy drama, so if you don't enjoy depressing works, it might not be for you. You are supposed to be aggravated at times. I will say this though, despite the Anime ending early, it is still a great watch. If you enjoy the Anime, read the Manga.

-For P5, make sure you play the Royal version. While P4G added a lot in comparison to P4, P5 didn't add as much, but the improvements HIGHLY improve the quality of the gameplay and story. Now that P5R is out, I can't recommend the vanilla P5. You also get ALL of the free DLC of the original P5, if you're into that.

-Zero Escape is fantastic. I'm a bit lost why you started with VLR, but I'd recommend you go back to 999. If you have a PlayStation 4/5, which I'm assuming you do since you mentioned putting P5 on hold, they have all the ZE games and the first two: 999 + VLR together.

-I personally don't like MMOs. I've played the GoW series, including Ascension and Ghost of Sparta (Which I'm sure most people don't even know exists)

-Fate/Zero
-Monogatari (Obviously)
-NANA
-Persona
-Zero Escape

Alright so for Part 4, the animation is horrendous.. That is, to say if you're strictly looking at the premiere version (When it was released). These issues are fixed in the Blu-ray HD Uncensored release. Unfortunately, all major streaming services have the censored low quality version. I'll look for a good link for you that is uncensored, so it won't bother you.

https://9anime.to/watch/jojos-bizarre-adventure-diamond-is-unbreakable.w1xo/ep-1 (This is an uncensored version, just switch it to the MyCloud server).

For Part 5, yes, the plot is more focused on the individual members of Passione. Bruno is more the main JoJo, than Giorno; it's also why he is immensely loved more.

I need to get up right now and head out for the morning, so I'll comment on AA later, but as for JoJo:

Part 1 is really boring, by a good margin. It doesn't help that is also has the worst JoJo, arguably. But still, it's only 9 episodes. Very slow 9 episodes, but still 9 episodes. I'd even argue 8, since the last episode of Part 1 is actually ok. Once you get to episode 10, non-stop enjoyment. And it also has who most people consider the best JoJo in the series: Joseph. I really don't advise to skipping parts, so keep that in mind. Part 4 is actually the worst animated, depending on what version you watch (For the JoJo series, whenever you try to watch it keep in mind "is it uncensored in gore" if not it's the premiere animated if it is 1080p and well animated goodness). And yeah, the JoJo ops/eds are all great.

Mainly my enjoyment of each part is held upon who the JoJo is:
-PB: Johnathan (Bad JoJo)
-BT: Joseph (Best JoJo)
-SC: Jotaro (Great JoJo)
-DIU: Josuke (Cool JoJo)
-GW: Giorno (Not great JoJo; GW is about everyone around Giorno rather than him)
-SO: Joylene (Great JoJo)
-SBR: Johnny (Haven't read it yet)
-JJ: Josuke (Haven't read it yet)
TheAceAttorney Oct 31, 2021 11:32 PM
And once again for JoJo, just so you know:

It took me TWO WEEKS to finish Part I which is just the first 9 episodes. I was stuck on episode 4, because it was just SO boring. I finished the rest of the series in the span of 2 weeks. And also know, if you're planning on skipping Parts II-IV, you're missing arguably the best character in JoJo up to SBR. Highly encourage you to get on it now, so you can just finish it faster. You will enjoy Part II, most likely III, and hopefully IV.

Ahh I see. I agree with a lot of your points about watch order and definitely the PS release of what I'm predicting as "The Justice Trilogy," to hit consoles.

Idk it's just I consider AAI to be really not good, still not a bad game by any means, but well let me explain. The first case (I believe it was Turnabout Visitor) is pretty meh, the second one is an amp in quality (Turnabout airlines), but then Kidnapped Turnabout happens (The only saving grace is Kay to some extent but she was supposed to be in the last case and was cut; honestly I consider this to be one of the worst cases in the series), Turnabout Reminiscence is solid, but Turnabout Ablaze drags for way too long (Like wow the amount of time this case drops the word "final," at it's halfway point is absurd).

Apollo Justice, on the other hand, is overhated in my eyes. Maybe I'm biased since it was my first true game, but I still don't consider it as outright garbage. For instance, the first case is EASILY the best intro case in the series. Absolutely genius how the suspicion shifted to Kristoph and how Phoenix used fake evidence and admitted to it, really helps you see how far he's fallen and it also sets up the 4th case's twist by making you think Phoenix actually forged evidence. Turnabout corner is bad, Turnabout Serenade is atrocious, but I really like Turnabout Succession. In all honesty, it's one of my personal favorites to replay since it has so much fanservice in it. Idk if you used an emulator or you played it on the DS like I did, but there's one section during that case where you have to blow on the paintings and IT WAS INFURIATING. I remember running out of breath trying to blow into the ds screen, since it wasn't registering. Other than that, fantastic final case. Not on par with Turnabout Goodbyes, Farewell my Turnabout, especially not Bridge to the Turnabout, Cosmic Turnabout & Turnabout for tomorrow, or Grand Turnabout but it's still fantastic. While I do think the system could have been more ironed out for jumping to the past and future, I really love the past scenes and how it ties in with the future. By far, the darkest part of the series (If maybe not for the final case of DD: Turnabout for Tomorrow). Yeah, you have a lot to look forward to.

A lot of people argue that JFA isn't good, and I agree. Bad first case (hell it's so forgettable I forget the name of the case and I'm THE AceAttorney), fantastic 2nd case with Reunion and Turnabout, FUCK Turnabout Big Top, and Farewell my Turnabout is a contestant for top 5 best cases in the series. Shu Takumi was heavily rushed to make it in the span of 2 months, and it shows.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (In other words, the first game) is heavily slept on. while The First Turnabout may be meh it is very memorable, fantastic 2nd case with Turnabout Sisters (Only complaint is how Mia becomes Deus ex Machina in the end), underrated 3rd case with Turnabout Samurai (I mean compared to other 3rd cases in the series this is nowhere near as bad, and it introduced an icon to this series with the steel samurai), EPIC Turnabout Goodbyes which solidified this game was Edgeworth's story, and Rise From The Ashes was great if not for being the longest case in the series (Seriously this case feels 3x as long as the game itself).

T&T and AAII are masterpiece quality, no point debating that.

But yeah with Professor Layton, I suggest you get a free DS emulator (I suggest Desmune) and play Unwound Future. You'll love it. You may think the series is targeted towards kids, but trust me kids can't work through most of the puzzles in this series (at least I couldn't when I was younger). I briefly played The Millionare's Conspiarcy (Which is the one with his daughter), but never finished it. I did get the vibe that it was more for kids, but the others aren't as tone-deaf. Trust me, at least play Unwound Future (The first and best game in the series).

And yeah you should just commit to watching JoJo in order, since it will be that much better. Part 5 is really the only stand-alone part.
TheAceAttorney Oct 31, 2021 10:13 PM
Ok, so even with the base idea of how each JoJo part works, there's a narrative consistency between them and it's why people argue against skipping JoJo parts (Although in this case I am even more against P3 skip if you plan to see P6):

Phantom Blood (Part I) ---Direct ties---> Battle Tendency (Part II) --->Direct ties---> Stardust Crusaders (Part III) ---Direct ties---> Diamond Is Unbreakable (Part IV) ---Really loose ties---> Golden Wind/Vento Aureo (Part V) ---No ties---> Stone Ocean (Part VI) ---Direct ties to ending of SO---> Steel Ball Run---Direct ties---> JoJolion

At least this is how I see it (It's also probably why you were fine watching Part 5 by itself)

The easiest way to relate it to Ace Attorney terms would be playing T&T without knowing anything about the first 2 games, and then having no real sense of the journey Phoenix has had up to that point. This is why whenever I approach a medium, I always watch/read/play in either release order or (if there's a prequel and it doesn't ruin things later) chronological order.

And honestly, the only part about JoJo that's outright not good is Part I which is just 9 episodes. From Episode 10 all the way to Golden wind, I'd say it's a hell of a ride. Although some argue against the Slice of life in Part IV, I'd say it works and is just what the series needed to transition from SC and into GW.

I love how it's a rite of passage for AA fans to hear about it from a friend first, it's just a continual chain. In my case, I was a big fan of the Professor Layton series (Still am) and while on vacation in 2015, and I was introduced into the AA series through the crossover on the 3ds. I met a kid who shared my passion for PL and he told me more about AA and how I had to check it out. Also, like yourself, best decision I've ever made. Although in my case, I took the off-the-beaten path route (I started with AJ, which wasn't really a good idea). Thankfully, after experiencing the series multiple times, I can see it from the way it was supposed to be played. And as someone who's played all those 3ds exclusives you've mentioned (Except TGA, since I just pre-ordered it on PS4 and haven't had time to play Case 2 of game 1), trust me you're missing out by not playing DD. Some people argue it's the worst game, which I think is just not giving it enough credit. The finale for that game is split into 2 cases and oh boy it's incredible. I made a whole tierlist here on all the cases:

Ace Attorney has been my favorite series of all time (the VNs of course) since I was around 7. When I was in middle school, the Anime dropped and I was thoroughly disappointed. As for Part 6, I'd say you might want to watch at least Part 3 before it comes out.
