Gantz has 3 major weak spots which destroyed the entire Manga for me. I read the Manga last week for the first time in my life, after watching the disgusting anime adaption. I was curios how the manga would go on.
1. The plot - Gantz managed to bring so many different aspects together and hardly give any content. Which made the entire finale almost empty. The pseudo intellectual philosophy made it worse in the end.
2. The characters -
This manga probably not only has the dumbest but most hateful characters ever. And these aren't even realistic. Every "normal, not Gantz participant" had an IQ of 20. Even when buildings exploded, they were standing around filming and calling it CGI. People were manipulated by every possible representation as if they had no mind of their own.
Most of the "Gantz participants" had just as little intelligence. They stand around all the time, never evasive and die. I especially love it when everyone stands around and asks "May we shoot? Shall we shoot now?" they did this a lot in the manga, which ended up dying. At first you would have understood it with the onion aliens, but then?
And most of the protagonists were hardly any better. There was some development, but it was. No value was placed on their relationships, it just happened.
3. The writing style -
A large part of 1-2 also flows into this. The author had no idea about the human psyche and didn't even know how to implement scenes or write conversations / dialogues.
Sorry, but if people hate Gantz from these points, you can completely understand it.
