Yoo, I noticed you posted on the banana fish forum not long ago.
I just wanna answer ur question here since apparently the people over there can’t agree on anything.

Banana fish is an anime that deals with be serious mature topics such as child sexual assault, corruption in those in higher power, pedophilia and having to live with the effects of a childhood ruined by those things.
(I must note that despite it dealing with some very very sensitive topics but handles them respectfully and explores these themes well.)
Don’t get the wrong idea about it.

Since the release of this anime it has received many labels that do not fit it whatsoever such as yaoi, boys love and shonenai etc because of the way people view the relationship between our two main characters Ash and Eiji. Whether or not they are a couple or whatever is really something that is up in the air as you could probably see within the replies but what it actually is just close friendship.
The reason why people get the idea that it is else is because of the closeness of this relationship. I suppose you could say that the two are in love but it’s not really what I’d call romantic.

I recommend you read the first few paragraphs of this review for a better explanation since I’m bad at this.
