I'm not an anime afficionado, I'm kind of a normie. I only really watch anime occasionally, but I think I have an eye for storycraft, so I want to put my opinions out there. I actually don't really like Japan at all. I used to be an uguu-kawaii naruto-running weeaboo, but I've since grown disillusioned with Japanese culture, and kind of flipped my opinion. Still, doesn't mean I can't enjoy the stuff they put out!

For me the expierance of this anime was outstanding. building slowly the plot around, with epic music, love story, plot twists, main characters changeing. There is so much in it of medieval times and western story and sagas around it that was for me perfectly combinded with each other and made to its own (gods, demons--thinking of people during the 13th century (world cards where shown with dragons, cause they did not better known... etc), merlin from arthur saga....well hope you give it another chance some times, cause i think you do that anime wrong.
