Oh okay well that's good. Yeah I need some time to record it and not be lazy, but I have exams coming up :\ Actually I'm not even gonna use exams as an excuse, I'm just plain lazy lol. During the summer when I have literally nothing to do is when I get covers done :P
Same here, actually I'm behind on like 2 or 3 episodes haha :P I only like the OP and kinda the ED. And I LOVE Psycho Pass! Such an amazing show...Gen Urobuchi wrote the story, same one from Madoka Magica. I like his shows cuz they've got more meaning and deeper themes than other SOL/harem/ecchi shit. Sorry if you like those, it's hard for me to get into em :P
Hahaha I remember you! The awesome guitarist! :) And thanks, yours are great as well. If we were to do a song, idk, I'm really picky with doing covers (actually I haven't uploaded in awhile cuz I'm really lazy), and I'd have to be interested in the song. Do you watch the anime Psycho Pass or Amnesia? I was thinking of covering some OPs/EDs from there. But honestly during school, I don't have much time to make covers, usually only during long breaks/holidays.
I actually watched 18 episodes of SAO and decided I hated it long before I knew that anyone else hated it. I just knew that it was popular and on-going. The first half was bad enough, but then in the second half they decide "LOL let's say that the little sister is actually his cousin JUST SO SHE CAN FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM". They also added in a polar opposite creeper man JUST to make Kirito look even better. Every character in the series is introduced for the purpose of making Kirito look better- EVERY SINGLE ONE.
I actually disagree with the production of SAO being good. It may have had high production values but I felt they were used VERY ineffectively. I felt the dungeons were unimpressive, boring, and lazy as heck. They could have made really interesting cave designs and instead they went for the generic Tron-style grid thing with bushes. Really? Come now. The towns were decent enough and the fairy world was a LITTLE better, but still lazy and unoriginal. I watch a lot of action series, more than you I can safely note, and the action too was unimpressive. It's also insanely sexist and the worst part? It honestly doesn't seem to know how sexist it is. It introduces characters for the sole purpose of making the main Gary Stu character look better and introduces a harem element that really doesn't add a single thing to the story.
I can agree that some shows get more hate than they deserve. I even think Naruto and Death Note get way more hate than they deserve. I can honestly say, after seeing it myself, that SAO is not one of those. And I'm not just saying this out of stubbornness or because everyone else thinks so. I genuinely believe it is some of the most sexist, over-rated crap to be aired in recent years. It really is the Twilight Saga for teenage boys. =/
But as for what everyone said in that thread- Everyone there HAD seen it and many of them had not only seen it, but read the light novels, and still thought it was bad. =/
As for your opinion of Brotherhood, my guess is that you didn't either understand the points it was trying to make or just weren't interested in what it had to say. Not insulting you, just pointing that out. The points it made probably didn't interest you at all and I'm sure the lack of romance didn't help with your interest in it either. It was an 'action' series that was very focused on creating realistic, relateable, and very multi-dimensional characters. It took the concept of the 7 deadly sins and explored them as characters- Not just one-dimensional characters, as one would think of the 7 sins, but multi-dimensional characters that still represented only that sin. It explored both the positive and negative aspects of nearly every one (except Lust who didn't get as great of a treatment as the others).
My guess is that you only focused on the very basic plot of the series, which admittedly gets sort of disjointed, but the plot is only there to carry the rest of the elements of the series which more than make up for any flaws it has. A lot of people I notice try to go into it just thinking it's a typical action shounen and are dissapointed because that aspect of it is sub-par because that isn't what it is, that's only a small aspect of a much grander, more spectacular combination of ideas. I even tried to go into it with some negative bias and I came out stunned. It is written by a woman, however, and I notice that the things you like are really written for men and fulfil some kind of fantasy- Which is fine if that's what you like. It's entertainment, we all like what we like. Personally, I prefer to have something that makes me think a little and explores the human psyche in an interesting way and focuses on making really great and real characters, which FMA: B did. It's something I can discuss with people who haven't seen the series because it presents ideas that relate to stories and ideas other people have heard of- It gives you a fresh new look on something you thought you knew everything about. It's really one of the most thought-provoking, intelligent, and downright interesting series out there- anime or not. But I can understand if that's not your thing and judging from your list, it really isn't. But it's something I have ALWAYS found incredibly fascinating, so FMA: B really gave me a lot of food for thought.
Gintama- Haven't seen it, heard it's great and it's honestly probably a lot funnier if you've been into anime for a long time as it's a parody series. You haven't been into anime for all that long and you haven't seen a ton of stuff so my guess is that's why you didn't like it. I'm only speculating though as I have yet to see it, but from what I DO know, it parodies everything. It's probably the same reason you didn't like Baka and Test, which is a parody series- It parodies a LOT of old-school anime and video games, like Pokemon, Dark Stalkers, CLAMP works, etc.
I too change my ratings a lot as I used to rate on a 7-10 scale so I've been trying to go back and fix all my ratings. it is a bit of a difficult task, however as some of the stuff on my list I saw literally over a decade ago. =/
I don't have a problem with what you like, but you added in at the end "if I didn't enjoy it then it probably isn't a quality piece', and that was what I was bagging on.
That's why I specifically asked "do you rate based on actual quality or on personal taste'. You responded personal taste but implied that your personal taste reflects the quality. If you'd left the quality part out there would be nothing to say because a lot of people on here rate JUST on personal taste, which is fine.
Perhaps I am a tad harsh on your taste and for that I apologize, but you tend to come off as thinking that something is actually of high quality if you like it, and I do tend to jump on that. If you just say "yeah it's kinda stupid but I like it' then that's one thing. Example: Fairy Tail is stupid. I know it's stupid. I like it and I don't care if people bash it and I can laugh at the flaws people point out.
I think you get a little to offended when people bash something you like. You shouldn't take it so personal. It's just Japanese cartoons and your taste isn't a reflection of you, but how much to heart you take each show and how upset you get when people bash it kind of is and it is something you should consider working on for your own sanity.
An example is the Sword Art Online thread on off-topic. People were bashing THE SHOW. No one bashed you- I know this for a fact because I kept looking it over and noting that not a single person insulted you at all. They all insulted the show, but you seemed to get REALLY personally offended by that. That's not healthy =/
But part of reviewing something well is being able to take an unbiased stance.
The reason I ask is, welll.... 8 on Rosario + Vampire and a 6 on FMA: Brotherhood. Whether or not you enjoyed it I find it hard to believe that you can actually argue that Brotherhood is not a fantastic series. I also find it hard to believe that you can argue that Rosario + Vampire is BETTER than it. Granted, it's not a great comparison because they are two entirely different genres, but regardless- One is generic as heck and one is wholly original, psychological, thought-provoking, and chalk-full of some of the best character development known to anime.
