Haven't read the manga in years. Started it way before I even knew it had an adaptation. o.o

I hope not. I'm sure he wants to see the end of his series though. Honestly I find it amazing someone can draw every single day of their life for 20+ years. It's one thing if it's on and off, but every day to meet a weekly deadline for years is pretty incredible.

I hope so! He's defended his title like... 3 times now? I thought he was rushing to dominate all the weight classes!
Time progresses slowly in the series. >_<

Aside from the dedicated fans, I worry that something might happen to the mangaka before he finishes too. He's literally spent half his life on this series. o.o
(He's ~48 years old now, began the series 89/90, so ~24 years on the series...) Can't imagine drawing manga for a quarter of a century to be a good thing for health...
(Though saying that, there are over 10 series that are longer running and on-going.)

Yes, I know I really need to read it! But not until S1 finishes airing, at least. >__<

And I know it gets even better. (Which is why I want to read the manga!) Eichan's just started his real skill building and shaping his style of tennis. And he has less than a year to win a huge tournament. I'm highly anticipating his future matches. Baby Steps has such great character development, and Eichan is such a great MC... logical, smart, adapts quickly, humble and hard-working. Shame it's still on-going. Once I catch up I'll have to wait...

It's the first episode I watch, even though there are other series that I really enjoy that are airing. XD
And honestly, I had high expectations going in because the synopsis told that the series had plenty of potential. Shame it aired with Ping Pong and Haikyuu. It's underrated.
(Strategic/Intelligent sports impress me. Passionate/Intense sports excite me. Sports is one of the best genres. <3)

I started the first season of Hajime no Ippo about two years ago, and still haven't finished it. It's weird, because I actually really do enjoy it, but for some reason I can't explain, I have no motivation to watch it. I only have about 20 episodes left, so I suppose I should just force myself to sit down and finish it.

I guess it's for the best that I haven't read Barakamon, because I might not be enjoying one of my favorite anime of the season as much as I am. I don't doubt you at all when you say the manga is better, but I feel like it's a good series on its own merits. I do wish some of the supporting characters were a bit more fleshed out, which it sounds like they are in the manga, but otherwise, I have no problems with the show.

I have a very hard time getting into manga, so in all honesty, I doubt I'll ever get around to Barakamon, no matter how much better it is. There's been a few exceptions, but for the most part, I only really feel motivated to read a manga if I was in love with the anime, and I wanted to continue from where the story left off. And even then, I won't bother to do that 90% of the time, even with some of my all time favorite series.

Naw, I think you're still just over-worried. At least you won't be recognized on the streets?
I still recommend the cape and shades; you can hide behind them and that might help. Only thing I can really do is wish you luck, I really do think you'll be fine. You're not doing an act/recreating a scene or anything, only a few photos.

What, but you can make more poses with capes! And people won't stare at you as much as you think, unless your cosplay is extremely professional (prepare to be mobbed), very mainstream, or very flashy. I attend conventions and you probably only get asked for the occasional photo, and about I'd say 1/10 people cosplay, so you're not the only one! (I'm sure the one in your city is bigger than mine.)
Plus your friend, cosplaying as Yoko will probably get more stares. :O

Um, unless you turn out like "man-faye" or "sailor bubba". Otherwise you should totally go for it!

I think you'll be fine! There are plenty of other cosplayers and you're not doing it alone since you have your friend. If you do drink though, don't drink too much.

Hm, no I haven't. Although I would love to, I'm not really willing to spend the money and effort. Plus I'm terrible at mingling. (Now if someone were to offer full costume and make-up for me, I'd be delighted.)
Don't be scared! What character are you cosplaying as? Maybe you can use a mask or something, depending.

Yeah, I read the manga before the anime, so I was surprised about the series when I finally picked it up. But I think the epic animation made me like it more. XD
