This has been the best summer season in recent memory. Every summer has a few good shows, but almost all of what I'm watching has either met or surpassed my expectations, which is rare for any season, let alone summer, which is generally pretty mediocre.
I completely agree with you about Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun and Hanayamata. I wasn't expecting much from either of them, but they've both been such a pleasant surprise for me so far. Gekkan Shojo is just absolutely hilarious, and every episode has me laughing out loud at least a few times. Hanayamata has a really nice warmth and sincerity to it, and likable characters you want to root for. I wasn't even planning to pick these up originally, but I'm so glad I did.
Another title I unfortunately agree with you about is Glasslip. This was among the anime I was most excited for this season, but it's been a total disappointment so far. Everything about it is so incredibly dull and lackluster that it's impossible to care about what's going on. The characters have about as much life and personality as a cardboard box, and the dialog is just inexcusably poorly written. I don't know how they managed to get so much wrong with this series.
Tokyo Ghoul and Terror in Resonance have both been pretty much exactly what I was expecting. I had high expectations for both, and I'm satisfied with how they've gone so far. Same goes for Ao Haru Ride, which has also been good so far. I've actually really been enjoying Barakamon too. That's one of the reasons I try never to read manga for anime I'm about to watch, I end up constantly comparing them and never enjoying the anime for what it is. Buuuut, out of curiosity, what was changed? :P
I have kind of mixed feelings about Aldnoah.Zero. The villains have been a little... unrealistic and cartoonish, I guess? I'm not sure how to describe it. That aspect of the series has prevented me from enjoying it as much as I could. But overall, I'm liking it a lot, and I'm very interested to see where it goes.
Yes, saw that and rejoiced! Extensions are rare and glad to see a sport series getting one. :D
And is that so? Didn't know it was 2 cour. In that case I'll look forward to it. I did start the series based on the people working on it after all, so I'll invest in the two seasons unless S1 has a really crappy ending.
The TV series basically recycles the movies; cutting out stuff and has worse music. The movies arebetter and there's really little point in watching the TV series. I picked it up only because I thought it would stick closer to the manga, but it didn't.
LOLOL. Bedroom eyes. XD
But there can still be eyes like that outside BL. 8D
(Regardless, I love the picture. :D)
I recommend the Break Blade movies, not the TV series if you're interested. Patlabor is also good (I'm currently watching). I'm trying to get into Gundam myself. Flying hunks of non-aerodynamic and physics defying humanoids bother me though. Ground mecha entertain me more, but not many good ones of those. (Break Blade, downright, is my favorite.)
Ah was just confirming, since I usually associate "avatar" with forum avatars.
But he's by himself and not even remotely nude! XD
My forum one? (Or profile?) Not sure how they are BL, but thanks. XD
Rukia's well liked probably because she's not a Nami or Sakura, maybe. And I love Yoruichi, will be adding her to favorites some time.
LOL. I usually skip the OP/ED after listening to it once or twice. The occasional one is enjoyable enough to sit through every episode. I try to maximize time, and I usually marathon so it's hard to sit through it all the time.
I'm loving Bleach more than I remember. And that arc is the current one, yes? Something about quincys... haven't read the manga in a while, obviously. XD
I'll be skipping fillers. No point in watching something I won't enjoy. I like Rukia (because she's boyish but not quite tsundere) and Yoruichi. :D
That's actually exactly where I left off back when, then I caught up again during the fishman arc. It's easier to marathon OP to be honest; the arcs go by fast (because each episode doesn't have much content, imo), and you can skip long intros/OP/EDs. In total, about 10-15 mins each episode?
You stopped before the best part! (Impel Down arc, etc... the manga volumes for that sold over 7mil I believe, breaking selling records several times. XD)
I myself have started Bleach. Pretty daunting, but it's nice to know that the series is long and can be that casual watch series that you fall back upon.
I think that's closer to the end of the first season. Ippo has to finish the Rookie King Tournament, then there are like 2-3 matches after that before he becomes Champ.
Glad to know you're enjoying it. I like making recommendations for people that work out. :D
Hmmm.... I can only think of the shower scene? Where they pick on Ippo? There's not much of it besides that scene and a few references later on. The series is so good at drawing you in though, it's kind of an addiction. XD
The humor is hit or miss though.
I'm still loving Baby Steps too, it's definitely one of my favorites of the year so far. But wow, I had no idea the manga was that long! So you think it'll be an anime original ending, instead of leaving room for a second season? Either way, I guess there's pretty much zero chance that they'll even get close to adapting the whole manga, considering the length. I doubt I'll ever get around to reading it, either. What a shame!
Have you started on anything from the summer season yet? It seems to be an above average summer so far. The last few seasons have been kind of disappointing for me overall, so this is great.
