It's not one of those types of series though. Serial Experiments Lain is. Paranoia Agent has nothing to do with deities. Instead it covers the themes such as human emotion, human psyche and facing our issues head on instead of find a scapegoat for every issue that arises. Lil Slugger, is the scapegoat manifested through Tsukiko's traumatization that she faced at young age in her dog's death. She carried that with her from where the show started to the end where she let go and faced the reality of what had happened. The sub characters have both a standalone theme;(their own personal issues cover), whilst carrying the main theme of the show, paranoia. They took the Lil Slugger story and used it as their own personal escapism. The only slugger that was real was the kid pretending to be him. He's an illusion throughout the entire show. That is a brief synopsis of what Paranoia Agent is all about.
