Yeah I totally see where you're coming from. To be honest, I really wished that dude was a nice guy, cause god damn does he make it hard to like him. You can tell 2 things from looking at my list, one, I have watched very few anime, second, I mostly only watch movies. The main reason for that is that I am not really an anime fan, I'm more of a fan of animation and style. Normally, movies have better quality animation (with exceptions), and that range of animation allows creators to create their own style. A lot of shows have very similar and "traditional" art styles and storytelling, which in my eyes seem very unoriginal and repetitive. Keep in mind that I haven't seen almost any shows so my opinion will probably change if I do ever get into it. But what I am getting with this is that, every creators' unique style is what I associate them with, not their personal lives. So in my mind, Miyazaki is a combination of all his movies, and since I like most of them, I like him. Obviously, you won't feel the same way, since you don't like his films too much. Overall, it might just be me covering the truth of his personality, but ultimately I end up having a better experience.
Dude you should try not focusing too much on the personal lives of the directors when reviewing movies. If you don't like him/her, you will probably reflect those feelings towards the movie before even watching it. For example, I know Miyasaki is a pretty big asshole, but I don't take that into consideration when watching one of his movies. Honestly, it's really childish when I see that you compare Howl's Moving Castle to his parenting. People use those arguments against famous directors because THEY ARE FAMOUS. I bet that there are thousands of bigger assholes in the making of the shows you love, but no one knows. So please try having a different approach for the next time. Doing so, might just make you enjoy it at least a bit more.
