My username is a portmanteau of several of my aliases: Vouivre Critique (what I used to go by primarily), EchecCritiqueMisc (alternative YouTube), and MamaWeegee (Conceptis). Also, it's pronounced vwee-shek-wee-gee.
Here is some additional information about me.
Profile icon: Nowi (dragon form) from Fire Emblem Awakening + Luigi (aka Weegee) from Mario is Missing
Place of birth: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Other languages: Je parle bien français.
Favorite anime opening: "Identity (アイデンティティ)" by Mikio Sakai (from Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry)
Favorite anime ending: "Maware! Setsugetsuka (回レ!雪月花)" by Hitomi Harada, Ai Kayano, and Yui Ogura (from Machine-Doll wa Kitzutsukanai)
Favorite anime, manga, and characters are organized in descending order of ranking. (I may have weird tastes, but I like it that way.) For my character list, I tried to make sure all characters were from different series; otherwise it would be mostly Mondaiji characters, and some of the series that didn't make my top 5 list wouldn't be represented.
Regardless, I have a vast multitude of honorable mentions (in no particular order):
Series: RailDex, K-On, Log Horizon
Theme songs: Gabriel Dropout, Jinsei, Mondaiji, (ED) Witch Craft Works, Joshiraku, Tachibanakan Triangle, Time Travel Girl, (OP) Haganai (both seasons), KonoSuba 2, Eizouken, Black Bullet, Re:_Hamatora, Blend S, D-Frag, One Punch Man, A Certain Scientific Railgun, Akiba's Trip
Characters: Plutia (Neptunia), Umi Sonoda (Love Live), Hanamaru Kunikida (Love Live Sunshine), Akatsuki (Log Horizon), Saya Sasamiya (Gakusen Toshi Asterisk), Levi Kazama (Trinity Seven), Cream Foulu (Neko Kissa), Chiaki Minami (Minami-ke), Yuuko Nishi (A-Channel), Sakaki (Azumanga Daioh), Miyuki Takara (Lucky Star), Aya Komichi (Kiniro Mosaic), Hotaru Ichijou (Non Non Biyori), Yozora Mikazuki (Haganai), Suu (MonMusu), Raphiel Shiraha Ainsworth (Gabriel Dropout), Megumin (KonoSuba), Crusch Karsten (Re:Zero), Umiko Ahagon (New Game), Hakase (Nichijou), Aigis (Persona 3), Tsuyu Asui (HeroAca), Elma (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid), Benimaru Shinmon (Fire Force), Rina Tennoji (Love Live Nijigasaki), Gankyou Kuurubiyuutei (Joshiraku), Suzuno Kamazuki (The Devil Is a Part-Timer), Riko (Made in Abyss), Nagisa Shiota (Assassination Classroom), Reina Kousaka (Hibike! Euphonium)
On April 2021, I have updated my personal anime rating system to use all ten numbers, making my preferences less ambiguous.
10 - top-tier
9 - would recommend
8 - left a lasting impression
7 - charming
6 - had its moments
5 - not bad
4 - left a meager impression
3 - a bit disappointing
2 - left a foul taste
1 - the closest I've ever come to regretting a full watch
N/A - I haven't watched enough to make a proper decision
This does not apply to manga or light novels (because I'm not as into them overall), which remains subject to my previous rating system.
10 - one of my favorites (or a sequel/OVA/movie/side series thereof)
9 - although not among my favorites, I really enjoyed it
8 - had its strong points, but nothing stood out too much
7 - average; nothing was really too exciting, but it wasn't too bad
6 - kept me at least somewhat entertained, but something about it was unsettling
Why do I not write reviews on here? Simple: I just don't feel like I'd stand out as a reviewer, let alone on this site. If I'm writing anything recreational, anime or not, it will be on https://vouivreview.wordpress.com/
Behind the name Vouivre Critique: It all started when I bought Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock for the Wii. The game allows you to give yourself a name of up to 16 characters. I started out as Hidden Insanity, but I changed my name to Echec Critique (French for "critical failure") a month or two after. A year or so after that, I got to know a Guitar Hero Wii group started on Facebook called Team Wyvern. Since I was a part of it, I decided to rename myself Vouivre Critique (French for "critical wyvern") to commemorate my inauguration. I also changed my icon to the picture of Nowi in my current icon (took me a while to figure out what to use as an icon, to be honest).
