I get what you mean, some of these airing animes are too good to not watch as I want to be in the midst of the hype of it all. Like when AOT season 4 was airing haha!
With the amount of time you've spent watching anime and reading manga, it must be such a pain at times to find something that will, as you said, make you think it's "all worthwhile". I believe hunter x hunter will be something that would provide what ur looking for. I watched the entire show knowing that one of the much much later episodes was one of the best episodes of all time, and so I just kept on watching for that and when I finally got up to it after 1-2 months of anticipation, the emotions I felt were surreal. Not as surreal as finding out Berserk is coming back, I was crying about that in the shower about 1 1/2 hours ago lol. Best news I have legitimately heard my entire life.
Genshiken is def up there now with my favourites now. I completely agree, the new ones don't really the same, kinda like Boruto is to Naruto, some familiar faces, but a new cast that is hard to care for.
I feel myself slowing down recently with how much I am watching and reading, I am not getting much enjoyment. I am trying to fix my dopamine by reducing my use of quick and easy forms of entertainement. I will say though that my reread of Berserk hit really well and reading HunterxHunter's last few volumes has been a blast. I am now one of many who wishes for it to continue.
Ever thought of collecting manga? I'm an avid collector and have sunk significant money into it as you can tell by the list of books i own.
Haha, that would be sooooo grueling having to buy anime and waiting that long! What anime did you watch back then that you liked a lot?
I haven't heard of anyone collecting dvd anime, its mainly manga collecting. I've seen some prices for some dvd anime and they've made me barf. Like $ 80 AUD for 1 season. I'm surprisedy you wife isn't concerned about the prices of them either! We all gotta have some part of the house dedicated to ourselves!
I’m not realising right now, but I should be taking the time I have for granted right now for anime, you’re right. But at the same time, I feel tired after watching 2 episodes if anime, so getting older definitely won’t help that.
Maybe I should sacrifice having kids for the anime grind, it would be worth it for a stable mental health.
I’m doubt old anime will die out, there are just so many classics that can’t be missed out on. Like Legend of the Galactic Heroes is super old, but still watched in modern times. I guess the animation is off putting for newer viewers who are used to god-tier Demon Slayer animation. At least manga is fine. Not to worry though, 90% if airing anime is trash. This season, Ousama Ranking is a hidden gem. I highly recommend it, heck I already have it on my favourites list.
Monster is so good though, I love it already, can’t see me giving it below an 8.
Its cool to hear real-life examples of that, because I feel like I want to have kids, but at the same time, I recognise that I might be too pushy with them in terms of their hobbies and sports, which might inhibit my relationship with them. Maybe I'm not cut out for kids!
You can never go wrong with Studio Ghibli though, its always a gateway anime to the greater stuff. Next thing you know, ur kids will be on MAL reviewing Ishuzoku Reviewers. I feel like my parents have lost all faith in me because I watch anime. I gotta quickly alt-tab while reading Maid-Sama otherwise I risk losing my position in the household!
Thats good that you don't plan on stopping! Afterall, anime just has so much content its crazy. It can never get old.
Ah yes, growing older and still watching anime, I wonder how that will turn out for me. Especially the shonen genre, I fear that if I don't watch enough now, I will be too old to fully enjoy it. I can still imagine myself watching anime until I'm 70, but that might be a bit hopeful. Do you have any children? If so, have you influenced them to watch anime? Apologies if this is too personal.
