I grew up watching Sailor Moon, Marmalade boy, Captain Tsubasa and Dash Kappei on TV without really knowing what "anime" was.
But the first anime I really chose was Cardcaptor Sakura. And I loved everything about it.
I love rom-coms, but if you look at my list, I'm open to any genre (except maybe horror).
A long time ago I even joined a Spanish fansub (unfortunately, it no longer exists) as a translator and proofreader, and I had a great time!
I even managed to drag several friends into the anime world (thanks to School Rumble, Ouran High School Host Club and Bleach).
