Recycled Characters? They just share similarities. Just look at any other writer. It's in a way, loosely based on Utena. It supplements it.
Chameleonic personalities? Name just one instance that ascertains that arguement. Also, if chameleonic aspects of character make a character bad, then the whole Eva series or NHK are shit, which is absurd.
Plain and boring? Is anything about Penguindrum plain and boring? Everything is vibrant and significant. It functions like a demonstration of different ideas that is bound by the rule of relativity. From its realism and characterization to its visuals and symbolism.
It's strange to acknowledge what such a series does right. It just takes a lot of effort to like a series that takes so much thinking in order to fully appreciate and relies so much on personal interpretations. It might also be that the very fact that it took me a lot of contempation to reach this point was one of the predominant urges. I don't know, and I don't really care either. I just want to clear any misunderstandings on the series that I can find. If there is one thing I know about anime, or even, dare I say, art, is that Penguindrum has the potential to become a masterpiece for some. I said for some not just because it is such an abstract and difficult, or rather, demanding to grasp series, as masterpieces are, at the end of the day, completely subjective, as maybe everything that humanity can even hope to experience.
I might have gotten really iritating by now. I sincerely apologize. I'm not that kind of guy normally, only when it comes to Penguindrum. I recommend you rewatch it with a more open mind, not trying to spot any bad things, because it is delicate, it relies on your perception more than anything else, if you would like to grasp some of its subtleties. I really want to spread its word, about how it has affected my perception and its genius, so please, don't take it as some kind of 'elitist onslaught' towards you. Thank you for your time.
Are you absolutely certain that Penguindrum is cancer?
In my eyes, Penguindrum is the most elaborate, open, modest and intellectual commentary on life I have ever seen. It doesn't impose anything. It is genius, exploring numerous different worldviews so carefully and thoroughly.
There might be no way for me to change your mind on the matter, but still, could me let me know what you didn't like about it?

Thanks for the review of Re;Zero, you really wrote EVERYTHING I was thinking.
What i don't understand is how highly rated Re:zero has become. All these "plot twists" people are excited about or how innovated and non-shonnen or how this show is "so much more"....its absolutely ridiculous. How is it that people cannot see that Re-Zero is basically a chocolate covered piece of shit!. The story is all over the place, there are so many plot holes that i don't know how the writers haven't fallen through them yet. The characters are like a glamorized version of SAO, they try there hardest to break the typical norm of anime characters but fail due to their lack of development, poor dialogue, and unrealistic decisions. In fact, I swear every decision Subaru has made has been so forced that I don't care how much more the VA has to scream/yell/cry. (waste of a decent VA if you ask me).
Sorry for the slight rant, it was nice to get some of that off my chest haha.
