I am a Filipino who spent 3 years living in Britain as a toddler and started practicing literature at the age of 8. When I turned 11, I began watching anime because it looked interesting to me. I also spend my time listening to music as well as exercising which is either biking, walking, or jogging. I became a married woman on 08/Nov/2024 and conceived a child on 28/Nov/2024, which means I'm more busy than I already am and I won't be talking as much anymore. All of my scorings for each show are highly opinion-based and therefore, contentious and should not be taken seriously.
As for my nickname, you can call me Alice instead!
That being said, if you want to chat with me then feel free to do so! I'm up for a discussion, although it would be very pleasing if you keep it civil.
“For those who have come to power, wealth, and glory not by their own strength and effort, but simply through inheritance, what right do they have to complain? The very existence of such blood-lineage dynasties is disgusting. Power is the property of one generation. It shouldn’t be transferred, it should be seized.”
-Reinhard von Lohengramm
My ranking scale
I am very focused on quality writing and such and therefore, not bringing up any superficial aspects whatsoever. 3 anime in each score represent my personal examples. Again, don't take this seriously.
10/10 - The true gem of all anime and manga. A series that nails every single virtual respect in the most outstanding ways possible and make a well-sculptured experience. While I don't think it's perfect, it still has a special place in my heart. A story that's not only well-written and well-developed but also makes a fantastic hobby for constant re-watches/re-read. To me, they're the closest they can become to a true masterpiece. No matter how many times I've seen any of them and no matter how many series I've got into, they are completely unmatched.
Left to right: Bloom Into You, Revue Starlight The Movie, Pandora Hearts
9/10 - Among some of the best series ahead of their time and as far as I know, they're also possibly classified as masterpieces in their very own rights. Not only are they very interesting and fully developed but they're also believably nailed with each of their respective messages. Incredible storytelling, superb theming, top-notch directing, and profoundly organic character writing in one package are what an amazing series needs. They have some notable flaws to themselves and they still stand out. And you know what, they're also considered to be all-time favorites.
Left to right: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, Steins;Gate, Penguindrum
8/10 - A very strong series that shouldn't be underestimated a lot regardless of what kind of story they are. These series can make one single magic trick up to their sleeves and they could make a shockingly good presentation. They have flaws that prevent them from being fantastic additions but they could still move forward and remain true to their ideas. They're a very solid series that represents a true definition of how to show their premises in a proper manner. Either that or they can recycle cliches or stuff in a remarkable way. Again, they can be flawed but they still leave us a sweet note.
Left to right: Aria, Teito Seihai Kitan: Fate/type Redline, KONOSUBA -God's blessing on this wonderful world!
7/10 - A good and memorable series that is classified as a must-watch. Despite them having a handful of problems, they still overcome and invest in what should make a memorable series. Solid story, good displays, and interesting and charismatic enough characters. A nice experience that doesn't seem to be great but has a strong note that it always keeps an eye on. Either they have uninteresting moments involved but are still interesting all around, a weak start but a strong progression later on, or whatever. Overall promising for the amount of effort they put into it.
Left to right: Dorohedoro, Cowboy Bebop, K-ON! The Movie
6/10 - Decent for what they are. They are strange cases where they have a weird balance between the good and the bad. They have nice moments to themselves but at the same time, they aren't worthy enough to write home about. Either they have a good/great premise but a questionable execution or they just don't have as many interesting features to show. Now, do note that this isn't necessarily a bad score. They still can be "good", just not fully good. With that said, they're still recommendable as they're still above average but I'll leave a disclaimer first.
Left to right: Bleach, Gunbuster, Nichijou
5/10 - Either that they're generic, mediocre, or wasted potential. They are pretty much a "hit-or-miss". I wouldn't say that they're bad but at the same time, calling them good is kind of a stretch. There are times when they succeed in some stuff they can handle but neglect a lot of their properties otherwise. On one hand, they can be enjoyable with sheer raw entertainment value but are forgettable with their writing quality. On the other, I just can't give a flying damn about them. While I appreciate that they at least showed some effort, they could have done better with more aspects.
Left to right: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS, Kaguya-sama: Love is War
4/10 - A bland, poorly handled, and/or subpar story. Now, this is where true concern begins. Something that is considered below average. A series that suffers from more cons than pros. Having so many negative aspects to the point where they fall very short. Not thinking of handling their premise or story, directing, and characters. To put it in perspective, they're blockbusters that either overuse the same ideas or are really lazy with their creations. Some redeeming qualities aren't enough to save them. They're bad not because they're empty but rather, because a lot of cons overshadow a small amount of pros.
Left to right: Another, FLCL, Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part III: Rebellion
3/10 - Okay, I won't pretend that I didn't see those coming but they're pretty unforgivable. Do these have little-to-no redeeming qualities? These series are classified as trainwrecks or rock bottom types. Having more downsides than upsides isn't good so overblowing them would be even worse. These series don't provide any sort of highlights apart from very specific ones. Doesn't bother bringing up any engaging points whatsoever. Borderline cookie cutters. While I wouldn't say that they're complete dumpster fires, they're still discardable garbage to forget about upon finishing.
Left to right: Naruto, Angel Beats!, Your lie in April
2/10 - Absolutely egregious, a series that's so bad they're either comical or frustrating. These are series that fail in almost every highlight. Something that feels like a complete chore to get into. Imagine carrying like 10 glasses of water and you spilled and break them. These stories are pretty much that. Severely dry/illogical stories, very clunky themes, really monotone directing, and a complete cardboard cutout cast of characters. Seriously no finesse or integrity to bring, only stupid nonsense to show. The kind of series that are next to be the true definition of pointlessness.
Left to right: Accel World, BOCCHI THE ROCK!, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-
1/10 - What is this? What the heck is this? I don't remember seeing any good aspects in there. These series offend me on both a personal and a fundamental level. They take their problems and turn them into horrendous presentations. Something that doesn't redeem any sense of quality writing and would more likely go on to make too many failure points. Just straight-up disgusting. Having good art and sound doesn't mean shit when it's still awful all around. A series that's so bad, some of the worst offenders possibly become "masterpieces" in their own common sense.
Left to right: Attack on Titan, Violet Evergarden, Darling in the FranXX.
Of course, I don't tempt to offend those who enjoy any of my examples for bad scores. After all, we aren't built the same.
My personal favorites
The S ranks pretty much show my ordering and preferences for which one I would like to place over the other.
They gave K-On a 7 but bombed Bocchi with a 2. That should tell you how bad their opinions are. A 2? Really? That’s just salt. Even if you don’t like the story there’s still the animation, voice acting, and music to critique and they’re all good, if not great. At a minimum above average.
Nope. I am more used to consuming shorter form media so I probably do not have the commitment or time to play VNs of any moderate length unfortunately. There are some that look interesting though.
