I'm still living in the same place as I was before I quit, so yeah I'm not sure what more proof they would have needed. I'd be more mad about it if I had put hundreds of hours into making my profile like some people here, but to be fair with a day of just reconstructing my profile I can make this account better than my previous one. Though since you're recommending AniList, I may end up putting more time into that instead when I get around to it.
That's true. To be fair, I'm not even entirely sure what appeals to my sense of humor sometimes lol. That roadblock was definitely apparent in the Monogatari series when I tried watching. A lot of the jokes involve puns and I just don't know the language enough to understand. I think the familiarity of the setting of Grand Blue is what made it funnier to me. Just the whole college student stereotype is pretty relatable, even if I'm one of the more reserved type of student myself.
Vinland Saga sounds perfect if you like those! It's not just the main character either. The combination of the events of the story and the setting it takes place in makes basically everything fall into a moral gray area, and I absolutely LOVE series where your own perception matters. It's why I loved Psycho Pass (well, the first season anyways) so much.
That's not a bad mindset honestly. I probably should be more disciplined at times (like this week where I study on the day of the exam and spend most of my time gaming or browsing the web) but I stress pretty easily and feel like I need to get my mind off things for a while. And on the plus side, you won't feel burned out from watching too much anime. I'm sure returning after a long hiatus feels a lot more satisfying than my at-most week of searching for the next series. Not that I don't love anime, but my longest break has been maybe a few months since I started.
Haha, I don't hate documentaries, I just wouldn't watch a documentary disguised as anime. But yeah I was very impressed with how Vinland Saga incorporated a lot of history into its story. I didn't know a thing about vikings before watching, so I was surprised to see how many characters had real life counterparts and how the timeline fit in actual history. 91 Days was a pretty unknown series when it aired, so I don't blame you for not knowing of it. I avoided it when it was airing because I was in the mindset of "ew historical" but when I watched it a few months ago I couldn't help but think "they really made an anime about American mafias during the Prohibition Era. That's pretty neat!" It can get pretty slow at times, but regardless it's still one of the more memorable anime I've watched.
By the way since we're added on Discord now, would you want to start communicating there? I assume we'll be messaging pretty similarly to how we are now, though it sounds more convenient for you to move our conversation over there.
That's true, I also struggle with just getting to know people in general. I often worry about somehow offending people or just boring them with my interests, which in turn makes my conversations really bland, and, well, boring. With that, I wouldn't say I'm any more or less confident online or offline, it really just depends on the circumstances. For instance, everyone on this site is here for anime, so I don't have to worry about other users not having the same interests or even mocking me for it. Though at least in a lot of my classes, a lot of the students around me are into sports or like to engage in more social stuff like parties.
I'm not that upset about losing it honestly, I didn't have much work put into my original account to begin with, though as someone who makes a ton of accounts and tends to forget the passwords to them, I'll definitely look into some sort of password management system. I wish MAL had a better system for account recovery in the case of not having access to an old email/not remembering the password. After filling out some type of form for account recovery, they reviewed it and as expected they couldn't confirm it was my own account. I'll get to building this one up after the semester ends.
I almost forgot about the MAL crash. I think it happened not long after my last login and I do remember a lot of users here just completely moving to other anime tracking sites. I'll consider making an AniList when I get all the anime moved from my old account to this one and everything I've watched in that span.
Grand Blue was just so well done. There aren't a ton of comedy based anime that I REALLY enjoy, but damn there was no shortage of moments that at least managed to get a chuckle out of me. The mask clearing scene in the pool will stick with me for a while... still makes me laugh at just the thought of that scene, let alone rewatching it.
I really enjoyed the Vinland anime for the darker theme. While it's another anime with a "badass MC," it tries to make you feel guilty for cheering him on. I had a really deep discussion with my friend about it just a few days ago. I think one of the best things about it is how the story can be seen differently depending on perspective. Although we both liked pretty much everything about it, we still couldn't agree on what archetypes each character would fall into.
I hope you find the time to be able to enjoy some anime, assuming you're still interested. Anime is just one of those things where if I'm having a shit day after classes, work, or I just feel bad in general I can just relax and take my mind off the negative stuff. Gaming also serves the same kind of role for me. It might not be the best way of thinking, but if I ever feel stressed from a lack of time for what makes me feel happy, I make time for that and do my best to make up for lost time on whatever I needed to do.
Yeah, I'm really glad most of them aren't the anime version of National Geographic lol. Vinland very closely follows actual historical events, to the point where I think I even spoiled the manga from looking up history of the characters, but at the same time it does a fantastic job of creating a fictional story based on these things. While 91 Days really doesn't delve into the Prohibition Era, I just think it's a really cool premise for an anime.
I think the reason why I didn't really like historical that much was I had this weird idea that most series would focus on lore/history rather than telling an actual story, which I know now is obviously wrong. Of course, a lot of good historical do use actual facts and history to build the story off of, but that's what makes the series even better.
I loved Grand Blue! It was the funniest anime I've watched in a long time and I do plan to pick up the manga sometime. However, I hear Vinland changed quite a bit after the point where the anime left off. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, as from what I gathered the story completely changes which could be interesting, but I'm not sure I would like that as much as the prologue arc.
I'm glad you're doing better. Kinda weird for me to say the same day I make my return from a 2 year disappearance, but I'd be willing to listen if you ever want to talk someone about stuff. Really the worst thing for me was being insecure and thinking my friend group wanted me out, but instead it was me pushing myself out looking back on it. It wouldn't have mattered either way really as they were international students, but it was definitely something I've learned from. I was in a bad mindset at the time, but that's about the worst that's happened since I've been gone.
I'm a pretty big shut-in, but the biggest thing I miss is bowling. I would go almost every week with my best friend and it was pretty fun. I heard they also opened a Japanese themed arcade here at one of the malls I wanted to check out, so that kinda sucks. Other than that, I absolutely hate leaving the house, though I do need to get another job. I would've loved to work at the bowling alley or arcade, now my only options are fast food (for a third time and I hate it) or retail. I'm also doing online classes, actually typing this as I listen to my teacher. I hate this online stuff.
I tried to recover my account. Guessed a ton of old passwords and tried to change the email the account is linked to, but you need the old password for that. My old email is gone so yeah... guess I just have to start over when I have the time. I don't have AniList, is that pretty similar to this?
I did take a break for a few months from anime one year, can't remember exactly but it was just because I wasn't interested in any seasonals and couldn't find any older anime to watch. I finally did get over my dislike for historical anime though! 91 Days and Vinland Saga were amazing in my opinion, same kinda concepts but one set during the Prohibition Era and one set during the time of Nordic vikings. I'm not even entirely sure why I disliked historical to begin with. Maybe just change of preference over time.
That's not good to hear, I hope you're doing better! I've had my share of bad things that happened, but most weren't important enough to bother me to this point. I'm doing fine during this pandemic! Phoenix is a pretty big hotspot as well as a specific area in my city, but I've been good at isolating even before the outbreak happened... not sure if I should be proud or sad of that fact. Lol
How have you been in the last few years? Nothing really new on my end. Watched a ton of anime, found some new favorites such as Vinland Saga and I'm currently really enjoying Tower of God
Time to hit another new record i guess ( ͡ಥ ͜ʖ ͡ಥ)
2018 was a meh year I feel you on that... We're almost halfway through 2019 and yet again, pretty meh LOL. I hope you've been fine lately though! So what's poppin?
Actually I'm trying to get less on Discord because it's consuming my life energy :feelsbadman: I'll talk to you more once my shitty school life is over for the year uwuwu
Ah yes Elon Musk, the man himself :')) Making dreams a reality, in all sorts of ways lmao.
Yeah true! Once school is over for me I'll have all the time in the world to watch and read stuff so I'll do it by then uwuwu. Ooh and that's interesting! Doesn't say amateur writer on your profile for nothing ;)
Oh pfft you have a lucky teacher. Celebrating a same holiday 2 times in the same hear should be illegal >:[ (jk). And about Smash... I suck at it, very badly. This sucks because I'm a hardcore fan too smh... And ye honestly I'm not a huge fan of PC games lol. But it's fine PC has very decent games! What games do you play?
Ooh I see! Sorry I'm very dumb and say mistakes like that quite often >///< but ayy that's great! Pretty sure you got all of the Sentai stuff by now LOL. And based on the stuff mentioned it must have been quality merch ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I'm kinda in the same position as you with Vento Aureo because I haven't continued it since last year lmao. But I heard great stuff and really hope they adapt JoJo 'till the end!
Yess that's exciting!! Now we only need info on who and when lol. They could pull out a OPM 2 and change the studio, but meh honestly I don't see that happening. Nonetheless it's still awesome to know a S2 of Dragon Maid is coming (hopefully) soon!!
also "Well, it's taken me even longer, a matter for which I greatly apologize"
That's exactly what happened to me with ceirtain voice actor, since i used to watch a series in spanish, it kinda bothered me a bit watching the anime on japanese, since i had been so used with that voice actor, on my case it's dragon ball lol, the one most tend to associate with their own language, but in the end i kept watching the sub instead of the dub, both because it came out faster, and because i ended up liking it a lot.
speaking of cowboy bebop i'm yet to watch it, even if a few of my friends insist so much on me watching it, i haven't touched it.
wait, Tosuga prefers dub? HERETIC. LOL
So, on the last 2 years, have you watched anything of it? i really love the franchise itself, i've watched the entire anime (both) and now i need to watch the ovas and movies. which is the only thing i'm missing. oh, i'm glad you haven't heard about the "one" spoiler, one which is meme material, it's a very heavy and depressing spoiler. count me in on that list, because i really enjoyed the series, i know you're short of time right now, but if you haven't watched it, and find time someday, i'd recommend at least watching brotherhood, which of both series is the superior one, and it's faithful to the manga, unlike the original.
A bit late 2.0, CAN'T WAIT FOR PRINCESS PRINCIPAL SEASON 2, i know kakegurui season 2 got released this year, and as much as i loved the original, i still haven't watched it. Agreed, the Idol ark was a bit overdone, what i mean by this, is that it was a bit heavy or even annoying compared with the rest of the anime, i did like yumemi too, but the fans and the audience were disgusting. The choice poker part was great, i've heard it isn't canon, and it was made just for the anime, but i ended up liking that part anyways, the only thing that bothers me is that they didn't reveal which card it was at the end. I loved everything about princess principal, the ambientation, the clothing, the soundtrack and the story, were all perfect for me, i hope S2 gets released soon, i know it got anounced, but i don't know when it's comming out.
it seems like it's going to be released this year, i hope it gets released on the next season, so i can look fowards to it, but i doubt so, it'll probably get released in october. i really like how they developed Dorothy's character, that story arc was really good, and even if it pained me a bit seeing that other girl die, it made up for a great story. Pray no more, as it is confirmed, and I share your pain with that, for the original opening is nothing less than perfect, at this point i've listened to it a few hundred times, and i love it.
Yes!! Thank you for the gift, much appreciated! Wormy gon' keep this short bc I feel like shit when you wait :[ Anyhoo, I wish you a Happy New Year and that your 2019 is going to be much better than 2018! One of my resolutions this year is definitely replying faster than usual aaand I failed Once again, very sorry for the late reply (I think it's pretty known by everyone now that my replies are late af). January was a huge bitch for me, but now that February has begun and the 2nd school term is over, I'm a bit more free this time around. Now my only concern is applying to college before march 1st or I won't be going anywhere next year >_>
Hey man, I hope everything's going to be okay! Take your time with replies if you need to. No need for them to be rushed! Like I said in a previous comment, I think it would be better to shorten them out so the wait won't be that long. And hey, feel free to throw all the shit you want at me btw, I'm here to listen a friendo! Discord's messaging system is much better too, so feel free to say hi!
My holidays were chill, I spent the time with my family and did some shopping with my bro. 2018 overall wasn't that good for me, I got more stressful about smaller things I wouldn't usually stress about, some depression phases, etc. Some good things also happened though! I hope 2019 is going to be a better year. And for New Year's Eve, I went to a buffet with my family, and we watched TV specials from my region till midnight. I don't really have a huge goal for 2019 tbh... maybe getting accepted to college?
Oh nah I'm not aiming to be an astronaut, that was just an example of a thing I could never do in my life even if I worked hard for it, like a high-class doctor or an olympics athlete :P
I'll read the reviews another time, but ay that's nice! I'm def getting into Cowboy Bebop one day, Umaru-chan maybe because yes, I agree that they made Umaru's lifestyle very annoying... Eh, I guess I'll give it a try :P
Aw that's kinda cute c: Thanksgiving in Canada isn't as celebrated than the US so I didn't do much either that day.. My family and I ate a good dinner but that's it LOL. also BOI, you can flex all you want! Also these are nice presents if u ask me :eyes: basically I got a hoody/pyjama (love it) and Smash Bros for the Switch. On my bday I got a huge-ass Snorlax plushie (and dunoo where tf to put it) and another Switch game! And ayy it's nice that you got all these Blu-ray sets from Sentai! Is it perharps your fav studio? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
lol I need to catch up to Vento Aureo... but I can definitely feel the tsundere in Abbacchio towards Giorno ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I swear I've been working on it though, I'm halfway done!!
