Regarding Ratings:

Understanding my priorities when cataloging the pros and cons of a show is key to understanding my taste in anime. I like real feeling characters and a plight that I want to see them overcome (and don’t we all). I also like some “pandering” shows as long as they know what they are and don’t seem like cooperate decisions. Sort of a Keijo vs Eromanga deal where one is an action-packed fanservice anime that could’ve just settled for fan service with a staff whose passion is matched by the likes of those who made the game Senren Kagura and the other just a show about an insert main character who is close to a cute underage girl because she’s his sister and has a reason to talk to her because she’s the artist for his books. My taste is also very emotion based in that a show’s rating on my list is entirely dependent on a combination of how often I think fondly back on the show and how I felt during or after finishing the show. Shows/Movies with a rapid emotional decay see their rating drop over time such as Toradora, Bakemono no Ko, and Koe no Katachi. While I find characters and story most important it’s not to say I don’t care about interesting ideas. In fact, contrarily I do care quite a bit about the interesting ideas shows might spawn and it just so happens that a majority of the shows that I gave an 8 or higher have ideas or themes that I have or depending on the show am still reflecting on.

Oh and meme ratings. I love those.
