"I've always liked anime, even when I wasn't really aware of what a real anime looked like."
My experiences with anime, mangas and japanese culture in general started when I was a little kid, while watching the already-known shounen titles like Saint Seiya, classics from the 90's decade. After that, there was the 2000's golden era, with its Pokemon and Dragonball Z titles, that always delighted everyone from my generation and are known until today.
However, my true experience with the universe that I like so much today really started in 2005, when I first watched a classic called Tenchi Muyo. That was the first anime that threw me into an atmosphere I wasn't used to, one that wasn't full of fights, special powers and pocket monsters with powers.
For sure, Tenchi Muyo was the anime that first threw me some feelings that I didn't know what they are, and that I didn't feel it with anything else I could watch. It was a kind of emotion, a kind of a feeling that, even not feeling entirely well with that, I couldn't stop searching for it again, couldn't stop trying to taste it again.
It was when, some time later, I had the same experience (a little weaker, though) with Onegai Teacher. And then I had it again with other countless titles, some I didn't even listed as completed here on my MAL list (I have to remember to do that, by the way, haha).
This way, my favorite style of anime started to grow in my head (actually, nowadays I watch pretty much anything as long as I feel good while watching it and it delivers me some fun), the romantic drama style. Don't get me wrong, I hate romantic movies, romantic soap operas, anything like that... But that doesn't include mangas or animes, I don't know why. The style (romantic drama) is somehow shown differently than the way I'm used to see in any other place. It's different, it's better, it's fascinating.
Not long ago, I've come to watch the best title of this genre (to me), one of the best series in what concern manga and anime (to me again), even though most people don't like what it was made of its anime version: Kimi no Iru Machi. Yes, that was the REAL watershed moment. Since I've watched, I've been comparing every single title I watch of the same genre to Kiminoiru. It was the only one to deliver me a stronger feeling, something that made me deeply think about everything for days and that until today I've been trying to find it again in any other title (it was close of it in Toradora, but not that much).
And so far I've been watching everything I can, getting recommendation of everyone as long as it's a little in my genre flavour. I like animes that contain a lot of story, with a preference for a lot of drama too, and that has a happy, complete and resolute ending (I hate trying to search for mangas to finnish its story, I did that only to Kiminoiru).
Last, but not least, nice to meet you! :)

The ones that immediately come to mind are Horimiya, Girl Friends (if you don't mind shoujo ai), Iris Zero, and Koi Inu (a Japanese webcomic, you can find it on kissmanga though).
If you want some good romance manga that don't have the best development but are extremely enjoyable, try Jitsu wa Watashi wa, Imori 201, and Chikotan Kowareru.
The girl in the picture is Yui Asaka. Cute girl in her days I say. Great singer too.
Also, write down my yearly completed anime every end of the year. So coming soon ^_^
Can't See Can't Hear But Love (Manhwa, seinen romance drama)
Kono S wo, Mi yo!: Cupid no Itazura (By author of Sakuranbo Syndrome: Cupid no Itazura II, ecchi)
Love Hina (Shounen Romance, comedy/ecchi)
Honeymoon Salad (Seinen romance, ecchi)
Haru yo, Koi (Seinen romance, ecchi)
Uwagaki (Seinen romance, a little sci-fi)
Glass no Megami (Seinen romance, ecchi, similar to Virgin na Kankei)
On Chikan Otoko, yeah it's by the same author who made Onanie Master, but it is not creepy like that one is. Romance is the primary focus of Chikan Otoko and there is quite a bit of drama in it because of it. I thought it was pretty good mostly cause I liked how it ended, but yeah I can see why you would be wary because of Onanie Master. That was a pretty weird manga.
I haven't really found too many new romance mangas to read either. Other than ones I'm currently reading. I've been branching out to other genres like shoujo and action focused mangas as well as anime that was released in the fall season that I was waiting to finish. But I am still trying to search for a new gem to read though.
As far as other recommendations, I've been reading this one manga called Domestic na Kanojo which has been pretty good. It's author is the same one who made GE Good Ending. Unfortunately it's still ongoing though and the scans are behind the current chapter. Otherwise I haven't really found too much, although one I recently read that I really liked was Chikan Otoko. Have you ever read it?
Apparently, I was dissatisfied with the ending and after some years I did some inception-type sh** on myself and fabricated my own version of the ending
All the scenes were pretty much how I remembered, but the dialogue and meaning were different #insanity
I agree that it kinda sucks that aren't a lot of Shounen romances where the couple gets together. I've only really gotten into reading manga and watching anime this year, and I feel like I've already seen and read them all (the good ones at least).
I know you like drama heavy stories with romance so I don't want you to miss that. At least check the first episode when you're free. I hope that mature feeling hooks you into it :)
