Well, you mentioned watching anime for more than ten years as if you'd seen a lot more...but I've been watching anime for more than twenty years. (If you count random episodes on TV before I got seriously into it.) It doesn't really matter, at any rate. My point is that you have not actually watched through nearly enough dubs (comparing them from beginning to end to the original) that would be required to assess them in any meaningful way; you just seem to watch a little bit and quit because you decide you don't like it. Some dubs are inferior, but some are decent, and more than you'd expect are far superior for certain scenes or even overall. This is subjective, of course, but it's a mistake to generalize that all dubs are inferior. It's true that many musicians have more sensitive and better-trained hearing than average, and it's certainly true for myself. But you're using your experience as a musician to support your erroneous argument that dubs are always inferior. Anyone without major hearing issues who spends a significant amount of time comparing sub vs dub can plainly see (or rather, hear) that not all dubs are bad. Out of a few of my favorite anime, I personally prefer dub over sub for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Mirai Nikki, Madoka Magica (the movies; the dub in the series is a lot worse), Steins;Gate, Death Note, Soul Eater, Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball Z, Black Butler, and many others.
That thread was locked, so I'll put my reply here.
UsagiUme said: 143 days of watching anime? I've been watching anime for more than 10 years. After i finish an anime I usually watch one episode of dub. Why an episode? Because i cant stand how the voices don't match the characters. You can be a musician for 100 years if you don't understand music. ^-^
You're new to MAL, so I'll explain this to you: "Days" is the stat that shows on your profile to signify how many full 24 hour days of anime you have watched. Your profile says 31.7 days; mine says 143.5. I've seen over 9,000 anime episodes if you count random ones I saw on TV years ago.
It can go either way. I often feel like the original voice actors don't suit the characters at all, with the dubbed voice actors suiting them perfectly. My assessment is based on extensive experience, comparing countless anime subs vs dubs.
Not sure why you keep bringing up music. It has no relevance to the point you're making.
