03192019: I'm "kinda" back. Finally I was able to access this account after some lazy attempts from months before. I've already made sure I can have access to this account if ever I get stuck again - not that there's really a big matter of importance to bother myself updating this at all. I haven't really been watching anime lately, or done any decent amount of reading manga. I'm mostly engaged in outdoorsy stuff nowadays and I owe all of it to Yuru Camp, and my love for solitary adventures done by Ginko (Mushishi) or Kino (Kino no Tabi), lol.
05082019: lol I'm too meh to give a shit about everything I should be caring about rn. Feels bad man.
On Anime
It was only until recently that I started to take my interest on anime a bit more seriously (i.e this MAL). But before I even started listing down the anime I watched now and then, I was an avid reader of novels. The reason why I regarded Aoi Bungaku as my top anime favorite is because of my genuine interest in Japanese literature. Mushishi as 2nd because it gives off a feeling of belongingness that any book lovers can relate to (if they only give Mushishi a chance).
My tops 3, 4 and 5 as you can see, have something in common. It's comedy. I love satire, and I consider these anime as having an element of enjoyment I find in satirical pieces of writing.
On Manga
My choices as favorites really reflect the kinds of stories I am always inclined to read and enjoy. I like introspective narratives, stories that are not really driven by the events but by the characters (literary fiction comes to mind). I am a character-focused type of reader. Character > plot build-up > predictability.
My Favorite Mangaka
For the top 3, none of their works appear in my top 5 favorite manga. The reason being is that it's hard to choose one above others. Well, also maybe because I value their artistry more than the (product) manga itself. Deal with it.
I love horror, and morbid depictions of the bizarre. I don't judge Ito for "completeness" in storytelling. If I want such things, I go read books. I mostly enjoy his short stories, not so for the long series like Uzumaki and Tomie. He can scar (w/o the e) his readers with just a few pages.
His works are grotesque, not necessarily all that gory and bloody. Difference? The drama in gore is absent in grotesque. Most of his manga have satirical innuendos, touching issues about romantic/platonic relationships, war, and societal obligations. The dark humor in his stories (stories?) are well executed through his creative manipulation of human anatomy (lol). Rhetorical it may be, but satire is love.
Suehiro Maruo
Most of his masterpieces are heavy on the days of old (pre/post war era) and a little or more of classic Japanese literature. Gore. Brutality. Scat. Sex and violence. The ugliness of people depicted in a kind of art that only Maruo could create. There's some sort of surreal feel to his creations/stories, one of the reasons why I'm enamored of this timeless artist.
One would say these are all just some bunch glorified mindless gore manga but I beg to differ. These 'ugliness' are by far the most beautiful art/literature IMO. Watching gore tends to nullify one's ability to think because you tend to take it in as how it was fed to you. Reading it, on the other hand, lets you delve deeper into it's recesses, to its ugly truth - for which your judgement is yours alone.
You see it as hentai? As a pornographic material? Pft.
--------- So, I have this habit of saving manga pages/panels when I find something that interests me. It may be because I like the art, or I'm entranced by the 'feel' it tries to convey, or for the thought-provoking dialogue, or for the gag. Whatever.
Thanks so much! Hope you've been well. Your taste is so interesting, I don't know which area you live in, but if you live in a big city check your local conventions and stuff... probably not a good time cause of COVID, but I got to meet Asano Inio, Junji Ito and Kago Shintarou at TCAF (Toronto Comic Arts Festival) troughout the years. Also have a signed copy of Gyo, one of my prized possessions. If all things go well I hope to meet Masaaki Yuasa at TIFF this year. Hope to visit Japan soon too. If my 28 yrs on this planet have taught me anything life is short; make the most of it.
Glad you accepted hehe =). I remember i was gonna show him the one you have from Homonculus. Can't remember the particular reason why i was gonna show him it but nevertheless it's a great panel haha ^^
Since i just started reading a bit more manga myself lately i made a folder on my computer for panels i like. Guess i got inspired by your collection here on MAL =)
I also found quite a few Manga that i'm interested in reading based on your saved panels ^^
Guts reaction images o_O I feel like you already know me too well lol
I've been having trouble picking up longer manga as well, I'm pretty much just keeping up with the ones that I'm currently reading that have been publishing for a long time. I think the last completed manga that I finished that was longer than like 10 chapters was like some old seinen romance by the same guy that did Nana to Kaoru. Billy Bat recently ended, I feel like it was a bit lacking considering how great of an author Naoki Urasawa is. I mean it was a damn good manga, but in comparison to some of his other works like Pluto and 20th Century it didn't really hold up. There is also his sports stuff like Happy and Yawara, which are kinda just fun, but I feel like those are in a different category compared to his drama-heavy work.
Lol since when is 7 a low rating? I mean I'm not super strict with my ratings, but anything 7+ is pretty solid IMO. Also I'm somewhat of a disciple of That Anime Snob, or roriconfan as we used to call him back in the day lol, so some of his elitsm rubbed off on me. You might have seen from my comments with Tani, but I did some videos with him back in the day, my favorite is probably this old kaiji review I did with kenjitheenji (he has his own channel now, also yes I know my mic quality is terrible) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owprUiC9ZRY
Anyway yeah Boku to Issho I found pretty funny I love dark and satirical humor. Some of it was often a bit low brow though. I think the work that I connected with the most as far as Minoru Furuya is Ciguatera. I have a soft spot for seinen romance that have a touch of drama and tragedy to them. As for manga that have dark/satirical humor you don't appear to have Franken Fran on your list and that is a must read for horror and dark comedy fans.
I've had a lot of problems with shyness and being very introverted, my job kind of pushes me out of my comfort zone a lot though so I feel a little more confident these days and like I said life is too short to live full of regrets. Sry for the really long reply btw lol, sometimes I just keep writing and somehow I have an essay now lol.
Hey saw some of your comments on Tanikaze's profile. I thought it might be kinda weird just randomly commenting, but whatever life is too short to worry about being weird. We have really similar taste, I'm feeling more social than usual and I think we'd get a long well. So hows it going, seen/read anything interesting lately?
Lol yeah I like seeing that spoiler tag everywhere on your entries lol btw don't be sad and give yourself sometime cause it's important to take some time and you're more important and it's ok to like someone and get yourself in stuff cause you're a human and it's ok c:

Happy late New Year to you too lololol <3 Yeah we should do a book <3 <3 it was a good year but I was better lol <3 high five <3
Yeah my vacation has just started and my classes will begin at 22th February. No I won't be busy but probably due to this site's new look. I kinda stopped watching anime. I just can't get myself into it same goes for manga... And also you weren't here... So I stopped a little. I'm really not sure whether I will continue to watching/reading anything from Japan.
Yeah they are so trashy I have to finish them tho. I always complete what I started. And Dorohedoro... I will have to read that from the start of it. Omg after starting to university my love and yearning for anime/manga has faded away. I don't know why... but it hurts.
THE THING IS
I had lots of weird things going on my life right now which I really need to talk with you about it lol. I started using alcohol (not sure if you can call beer alcohol) and also started smoking like a week ago. I'm seeing a guy he is 19 like me and we kiss each other and sleep together but without sex. He is hot but I'm not getting any erections or not getting excited to be with him I just want his love but he is not giving me any love. I came to istanbul again from bolu and he went to the capital of turkey cause he lives there. I'm with my family so he does the same. Not sure what am I exactly doing with him. Are we each other's fuckbuddies? Or we are dating but he is way too tsundere to tell me? I'm really not sure but he is rude to me whole the time cause he wants to have sex with me but my mind is so complicated. I was with my ex boyfriend today also. And I became very close with my teacher btw. She is nice so thanks to me she is now dating with my deskmate. And we plan to smoke weed sometime. LOL MY LIFE IS FUCKED UP SO BADLY Right now. I really can't do anything which I used to like. I feel ordinary and like umm mundane?? Not really sure... I'm just glad you left me a note maybe if you help me to I can get a hold of anime again... I feel terrible and all I want is him to love me. Wait let me show you his face. His twitter, you can find my profile from his following part I guess but wait I guess his profile is locked... https://twitter.com/_kanoezouichi_ He is so rude to me unlike the guys I've been seeing before. Anyways I really don't know what to do........... I need a break from real life and want to watch anime...
Sorry for not saying so much about anime :D but I couldn't find anything to say you are right and anime kinda sucked but I'm still looking for unwatched movies. And gonna try to complete the anime ive been watching already and I have to read lots of manga.
