They're mostly only overcoming their past. Bcos the settings of both world are different with Tamers being more slice of life, Adventure characters didn't learn much of what life is bcos the episodes were rarely spent in real world. And they're kinda lack of "deal with it" things.
The gaps of "didn't learn values of living that much" are only little, honestly. That's why I still gave applause to Adventure characters..
Sorry for misunderstanding, this is only my view of both Adv and Tamers
Tamers took things too seriously? many ppl complaint about it about the slow first half, but for me that's where most of heartwarming and relaxing moments took place. Maybe bcos the settings of both series were different, so things the characters dealt with are different. I'm not saying adventure characters were not realistic, but just weren't as much as Tamers. If I can say, Tamers' first half were more focused on slice of life aspect. We see what kind of world that they live in, who they are, how was their daily live, and more. Meanwhile in adventure digimon is rather unknown for human, in Tamers digimon is more likely an entertainment franchise. They aired in tv, publishing toys such like the digimon cards, most of children there knew digimon just like in real world only more popular in there. Took things too seriously? you're completely false. Tamers had its own heartwarming moments for example when they're doing camping with classmates, guilmon playing with terriermon and also culumon, guilmon playing with Takato's friends, and many more. Each of characters in tamers also had their own burdens.
Takato was the only child in the family, he had burden of his crybaby behavior. He's just a big digimon fan everyday child, he always dreamed of getting a real digimon and eventually become real. You know how happy a 10 years old child was when he saw his unrealistic dreams become true? And then how Takato felt when he found that guilmon was just merely a bunch of data? Not of something he can face easily. He also had burden when he must reveal the truth with him to his parents, how his parents feel especially his mom when their only child had to go somewhere they don't know. Takato was just felt that he was a really bad kid for them, despite inside his heart he didn't want to leave but there's something that only Takato and other tamers can do. Jian Liang was only a game addicted child and he had 3 siblings with him being the 3rd child. Having more siblings made his life more complicated and also he had burden of "always blaming himself for such things" behavior and also he had problems of not to use violence due to his past of using tai-chi to hurt someone. Things got more serious when his little sister got involved with something she couldn't face bcos of her age, how Jian could face of such things. Ruki had burden mainly with her family especially her mother, bcos her mother was a model and rarely return to home, Ruki had no good relationship with her mother. And the fact that she was left by her father when was a littler, divorced with her mother, made her being a lonely wolf and coldhearted girl and serious one. Juri had a trauma of her late mother and the fact that she didn't have good relationship with her father and stepmother made her feel really depressed when seeing someone died, bcos death wasn't something the characters can face easily bcos real death prevails. When Hirokazu and Kenta were just merely entertainers of the series but they did some best job. Each of characters had the same burden when they must reveal the truth to their parents even they had burden to leave their school for something they only can do.
Tamers had a lot of dramas, mainly bcos they more focused on slice of life. They did best OST for heartwarming dramatic moments with their lovely jazz music. Mainly their drama focused on relationships with kids and parents.
I can't say adventure is bad, but their drama was just not that much, 2/3 episodes were spent in digital world. Sometimes they did as if they had known things such like "let's fighting together!" They're only as if being commanded to save the digital world. They didn't learn values of living that much.
