I have been watching anime almost my whole life, in some form or the other, but it was during my late teens that I started to consume anime and manga in a more mindful way and in large enough quantities to call myself an anime/manga fan.
My favorite Anime: - Tatami Galaxy, it´s a loopy comedy about existential angst. It’s fast-paced and it has striking visuals.
- Princess Tutu, is the best magical girl anime according to me, it’s a wonderful blend of ballet, european fairy tales and magical girls.
- Mushishi, A series of stories about mankind's relationship to nature with fantastical elements. It’s slow-paced and somewhat melancholic.
- Hunter X Hunter (2011), A very good shonen, that avoids power creep, all of the characters are distinct from each other and they strife for their own goals.
- Starzinger, it’s a mediocre space opera with a monster of the week plot but it’s a huge part of my childhood so I like it for nostalgic reasons.
My favorite manga: - One Piece, A jolly romp, it’s goofy, grand and endearing.
- Ranma ½, not the wittiest or most engaging comedy manga, but Rumikos sense of humour is like comfort food for me. (It was also one of the few mangas that was completely translated into swedish)
- Oyasumi Punpun, one of the most displeasurable reading experience I had the pleasure to enjoy.
- Pluto, a seinen reinterpretation of the classic Astro Boy story “The Greatest Robot on Earth”.
- A Silent Voice, I'm a huge fan of redemption arcs and the humanization of bullies is refreshing.
