I just know that playing cards overall has declined a lot in the last couple of decades here; but perhaps things are different elsewere, and that would be nice.

Being out skiing sounds nice; was some time since I did that... did some cleaning, but otherwise I mostly lazed around today.

Haven't heard about that game you mention; I know some games similar to bridge, but I know of none that is played in large-scale competitions on an international level. It's a bit fun that it's played almost all over the world. Card games are in decline, though, with the younger generation growing up glued to their PC and TV screens :P

I do see what you mean with growing out of something. I've been playing bridge at a decent competitional level for over 30 years, and for over 20 of those I also did a lot of work for local clubs and regional associations, like being secretary of the regional, chairman of the club, etc. It really was a major part of my life in many ways. But a few years ago I realized I was doing it more as a job and it was not fun anymore. I even did not feel any longing of playing. So I quit almost all of that, and though I still play, it's way less and I'm not really into it that much. I guess I'll see in the future if anime watching/fansubbing will go the same way or not :P

As for fansubbing, I consider myself a decent QC, although I'm not really good at timing, and I do some editing for Mamiko - mostly drama CD and OVA. I did edit the entirety of Kimi ni Todoke S1, though... Considering my Japanese skills, I'm not even close to being a proper TL of anime yet, even if I can deciper written lines quite well. Perhaps one day :D

Btw, this evening was great. The teppanyaki was super. The chef was a showman, juggling with knifes and stuff, and my friends are nice people, so nothing to complain about :)

Afternoon... I stayed up too late yesterday, so overslept...

I've actually passed my 50th birthday with a couple of years, so I'd probably be considered ancient by most anime fans' standards. I only started watching about five years ago, though, so I've a lot to catch up on. Age doesn't really matter if you like something and don't give a damn about appearances :-)

As for the Japanese, I'm on my fifth semester of evening courses with a native speaker. The pace is very low, so I'm definitely not fluent yet. I know basic verb and adjective conjugation rules and I read hiragana quite well, katakana decently, and know a few kanji. I do indeed think it's harder to learn some things when you're older. Not really logic-based things, but language learning is also about just absorbing words and the feel, and I think it's been proven that kids have an easier time for that. It also boils down to having other stuff to do, and a tad of laziness of course ;D

Very late by now, and my fingers and brain are slipping so the delete button is working on overtime :P

Being way too old, I've accumulated the experience of a PhD in Astronomy (stellar spectroscopy mainly), and moved on to software development in the radiotherapy treatment area (almost 20 years); I've done programming, project management, development management, and for the last 7 years test coordination, but overall I do a lot of scatterd stuff slightly too far away from tech things (I'm too good at admin stuff for my own good ;P)

Main pleasure in the werk life is doing something together, and actually being able to at least slightly being able to do someting good for someone, even if it's just a small piece :-) As for company going bust, I've not had to experience that yet (pure luck), but even that can be turned into a positive if there is something to be learnt. Yeah, I know, easy to say, but can still be true...

Well, it's Friday evening and a hard week at work is over, long days at with training on a software product we'll have to start helping develop; we had a slight snowstorm in the middle of the week as well :-O
But now it's time for some rest, dinner and anime watching. Tomorrow I'm having teppanyaki with the people in the Japanese evening course I'm attending, so looking forward to a good weekend. Not much moving in the fansubbing at the moment, mostly waiting for others to complete their jobs :P

I love your profile, how did you do that ? o_O

Attended 4 of my 6 classes this week. Hated calculus before; hate it even more now. Oh, and we\'re beginning C in my programming fundamentals class. The syntax is very similar to PHP but personally, I think PHP is a clearer and easier language to use. For example, having to declare variables at the beginning of any C function. That\'s just annoying and seems like it will cause a load of people (me included) to add variables later in the function and then forget to go back and declare them in the beginning.

But what do you mean align the comment boxes to the top, not the bottom? Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're talking about, they do look like they're aligned to the top, to me at least.

@ the lack of submit button on form, I was too lazy to style the submit button to match the form so I just styled a div and attached ajax to it. :P

@ comments a la browser tabs, Brilliant! That's perfect! I had been trying to think of a way to not need the settings tab and the only idea I had was to add a slide out settings tab. But the idea of making the conversations work as tabs is soooooooooo much better. Thanks!

Finally started working on Project Ferret again. Remember how everything was working for a single conversation (profile or club)? Well, it's become insanely more complex enabling the same functionality for multiple conversations. I eventually decided it was just easier to rewrite a large section of the code from scratch rather than waste hours trying to modify old cold.
