Slice-of-life series are what I tend to enjoy nowadays. I find that I have a great appreciation for series that are themed around a type of art. I especially like how its characters use that art as a means of self-expression, which in turn helps weave together a compelling narrative. Getting to learn about the art itself is also neat and a plus.
Anything feel-good with a sprinkle of humor will probably win me over (but I’d probably overlook the ones that didn’t catch my interest with their synopsis in the first place). As long as I can emotionally invest in the characters and their relationship dynamics, you can give me a good enough story and I’d still probably eat it up (lol).
I used to be all about long-running shounen, but good luck trying to sell me any in this day and age (IDK what JJK did right for me, but I certainly know that KnY wasn’t it chief LOL). I’ll still consider trying new sports anime (if the sport itself actually interested me). Any reboots of nostalgic favorites I’ll end up checking out.
Oh, and BL. Yes, I will still give them a try. No, I’m not above them. (But if they’re anything like another DakaIchi in the 2020s, then BYE.)
TL;DR: If it made me laugh and cry, and its characters are likable, I probably like it.
