Hello there, welcome to my profile!
To be honest, I wasn't planning on writing anything here, since I thought it would be pointless. After all, who would be interested in visiting some random profile? Well, unless the statistics are wrong, it seems many people visited it, so I guess I should put something about me here.
It goes without saying that I like anime and manga (Duh!), but not to the point of being an obsession, even though that humongous "Plan to watch" list may suggest the opposite (there is a perfectly good reason for the size of that list, I swear!).
(EDIT: when I originally wrote this I completely forgot to write something about my other hobbies (thanks to
Akunin for unintentionally reminding me of this fact). Oh, well, better late than never.)
I listen to all kinds of music, although my favorite genres are Jazz and Heavy Metal (kind of a weird combination, isn't it?). As for books, I don't have a favorite genre, but my favorite author is Terry Pratchett. Regarding TV shows, I got hooked on Doctor Who thanks to a friend who wouldn't stop talking about it. I also like playing video games every once in a while (especially RPGs and Strategy Games). Finally, and above all, I love anything that makes me laugh, so I consider myself a fan of things like Mystery Science Theater 3000, Monty Python's Flying Circus and some web shows like the Cinema Snob, Brows Held High or Read Right to Left.
As you can see in my profile details, I'm from Spain, which of course means that English is not my first language, so don't be too surprised if I write something that doesn't seem to make much sense: it's probably just me trying (and failing) to break the language barrier.
Well, I guess that's it. Thanks for reading this and please, leave a comment if you feel like it. Bye!

how are you today :D ?!
But you never know! Maybe Frieza will surprise us and be the next awesome bad guy!
Have you ever watched the DBZ abridged series? One of the best parts of it (I think) is how they portray Goku as such an idiot, and it makes me laugh but then I realize that... honestly Goku is kind of the biggest dumbass to ever exist! I mean, he's strong as hell but wow is he dumb! I could probably write an essay on all of the dumb decisions Goku has made (including putting his family and friends in danger on multiple occasions just because he wants to fight someone!), so yeah, you're absolutely right! How the heck did Vegeta ever get outsmarted by Goku? Plus, Vegeta has always been considered a superior warrior of their race, right? Being the prince and all. You'd think he'd be a tactical master!
Krillin was actually my favourite character in Dragon Ball (not DBZ) for whatever reason, and I liked how he and Goku were pretty much the same in terms of strength and skill. There was some friendly competition between them. In DBZ though.... not so much.
Yeah, Yu-Gi-Oh is definitely not as good as I remember it either. I mean, I know it's for kids, but wow sometimes I can't believe how ridiculous it gets. It's one of those shows that, as an adult, it is probably better to watch with friends (or while drunk).
Agreed! I am really looking forward to Doflamingo's downfall! He is an asshole. I actually was really upset at Law's flashback. Though it kind of felt like Robin's backstory.
Robin's entire island was destroyed and was then she was pursued by many bad people during her childhood, etc. Just like Law's entire village was destroyed and he was then on the run for most of his childhood being pursued by bad guys.
Either way, it made me feel bad for Law. After this whole ordeal (assuming Law survives), I hope that he and Luffy will be allies even after they part ways.
On a different One Piece related subject, what do you think about Bartolomeo? My friend and I have been having a back and forth conversation about him. He really doesn't like Bart at all and wants him to die (or just go away forever), but I on the other hand find Bart's odd fangirl-ish personality hilarious. Bart is just so ridiculous and over the top that I can't help but laugh. I mean, I can see why people wouldn't like him and hey to each their own, but I just wanted to know what you thought of him.
And yes! Happy (belated) New Year! Did you do anything fun for new years?
Aw that's too bad! Sorry you didn't make it. That sucks. Hopefully you'll manage in 2015! I think you will since you were really close this time :)
I just finished my first college degree (finally!), and I'm job hunting. So, my schedule is pretty free right now until I get a full-time job. So, I guess it's nice to have free time, but also sucks because no job means no money.
I have so many mixed feelings about Doctor Who at this point. Capaldi is phenomenal as the Doctor, in my opinion, and he plays his role very well, but some of the episodes have been let downs for me. The writing is a bit sloppy and badly paced at times, and since I'm very very picky about consistency it bothers the hell out of me when I notice a continuity error. There are times when they completely contradict past events without explanation. Some of the stories have been creative though, and I'm hoping the showrunners will fix any errors down the road.
Haha! With Dragon Ball, the movies are either really badass or really shitty. Frieza is one of those enemies that always comes back or has followers that never seen to end. If they bring Frieza back just to be beat up again, I feel like it's really going to hurt his ego. He should have learned his lesson by now! But, hopefully it'll be exciting! I don't expect a fully developed or deep plot from the Dragon Ball movie, but even so, if the fighting is awesome I'll probably enjoy it.
Yes, I agree about Vegeta! I still have him as one of my “favorite characters” because in the show he was great, and I thought he had some of the best character development, and arguably a more interesting story than even Goku or Piccolo. It seems like lately, all he does is get beat up or does something stupid for laughs (oh god, he's becoming Yamcha isn't he?).
Slight tangent here, but Yamcha was so useless in DBZ (toward the end). There was one time I actually started laughing so hard at the show, when Yamcha showed up when the androids first appeared, and if I recall, he had gotten all suited up and ready for action and showed up to save the day, only to be defeated in about 10 seconds flat. It was all that buildup for nothing! I think that's sort of what Vegeta has become. He shows up all “I'm here to kick ass!” and then gets his ass handed to him. Well, even so, Goku kicks ass so that's all that really matters I guess?
Right now I'm marathoning through Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. My friend owns them and I'm watching them periodically. I remember loving Yu-Gi-Oh when I was younger, but wow it's sometimes a chore to get through now – I mostly just enjoy the nostalgia of it. I'm determined to finish though since I'm about halfway done. And I'm finally working on catching up on One Piece manga, I fell behind a lot while I was finishing up school.
Oh, Naruto ended recently! I thought it never would! I haven't read it yet, but my friends that have read it all hated the ending. I've only heard about it and haven't had the chance to personally experience how terrible the final chapters are! I look forward to it.
Gracias por aceptar y feliz Navidad :3
It's weird how the fans are (almost) always reluctant or hesitant to have the Doctor change, and many claim they will stop watching but inevitably come back and love the new one. I mean, when David Tennant left a ton of people were saying they wouldn't support the new doctor, but Matt Smith's run ending up being very successful. And now I've seen many people doing the same and claiming they won't watch it anymore. I hope that's not true and that Capaldi will get the support he deserves. The new episodes are only a few days away!
I thought that DBZ's Battle of the Gods was a waste of potential. Half of the movie was just goofing off and full of 500 cameos by various Dragon Ball characters shoe-horned in there for the sake of nostalgia. Ultimately they had no part in the film and just served as a way to waste minutes, I would be okay with that if it didn't take away from the plot too much. There were definitely some good parts, but I really wanted to be blown away by the movie and it didn't quite deliver. The fighting was fun though, and it's pretty cool to see modern anime technology at work – all of the art looked great!
And can I just rant and say WHAT the hell is wrong with Vegeta in the movies? In every single movie I can think of, Vegeta is a complete wimp and is literally there to get his ass handed to him and then mope about the fact that he's not strong enough. In Battle of the Gods he even made a big scene by getting upset that Bulma was hurt. In the show, I honestly think he did care about Bulma (eventually) but never outright did anything to show it even if she got hurt. I don't think it's in him to show vulnerability like that. A few times in the show he had weaker moments but was quick to hide it because that's who he is. He used to be a strong badass character who was useful in a fight, but none of the movies seem to do that.
One Piece used to be amazing with original filler arcs. I thought the G-8 arc (right after Skypia) was amazing and hilarious! I didn't even realize it was filler for the longest time because they managed to fit it in perfectly with the plot. During the Alabasta arc, they filled up time by adding comedic episodes that tied right into the story so that we wouldn't even know we were watching a filler! I wish they still did that. Maybe they'll learn the error of their ways and go back to adding stuff instead of dragging out what is there. Sometimes I'll watch an episode and be like "they could have easily fit all of that into 5 or 10 minutes." Which reminds me that I am really far behind on One Piece! I should catch up!
About Kenzen Robo Daimidaler, I had told another friend of mine about it and they did the same thing of “oh wow, sounds bad, I'm gonna watch it!” and then came back a week later saying “I don't know why you hated it so much. I actually thought it was a cool plot and I liked the characters” and I felt so betrayed! It made me wonder if it wasn't actually as bad as I thought it was. So, it could very well be a show that amuses you, but for me the humour was just trying too hard, and they reused the same jokes at least 50 times. So many dick jokes. I mean, hey, I'm all for funny dick jokes – but these ones were just stupid. One of the running gags of the show is that the penguins (the bad guys) have “front tails” which is basically a way of saying 'we have our dicks out and erect all the time' and the first time it happened it wasn't that funny to ME. But they treated the front-tail joke like it was the goldmine of all humour and found ways to bring it up at least 5 times per episode. Basically, I didn't find any of the jokes funny the first time, and /really/ didn't like them the 10th time they were brought up!
My reviews have gotten significantly less 'excited' over time! In my older reviews I was more along the lines of “worth watching! Awesome! Loved it!” but I don't know if I just went about sounding more professional in my most recent reviews or if I just got less enthusiastic when I recommend something.
I don't understand why my review was taken down either. I didn't go on a hateful childish rant, I very clearly and thoroughly stated everything that I thought was wrong about the show while also not giving away spoilers, and essentially said that it was really not worth watching. I then got a notification on MAL saying that it was taken down by an admin. Maybe the admin really loved the show and didn't want my review steering away potential viewers? Hell, maybe the admin is secretly the creator of the show and was butthurt by my insults. I will never know, but the show is not worth the effort of writing another review.
You're absolutely right about Matt Smith though. The “Eleventh Doctor acted, way too many times, like he just found out that touching a girl doesn't give you cooties” is the most accurate description ever, lol. It was weird though, because he would switch from acting like he had never seen boobs in his life to flirting like he was the next casanova. There were times with River that I was just confused because I never understood what their relationship was.
Yeah, I heard about that! I heard that Capaldi said there would be no flirting and I just about praised the heavens for miracles! The more I hear about Capaldi and his 'demands' for the show, the more excited I get. Because he's been a fan of the show for so long, he knows where shit has gone wrong and wants to improve those aspects during his run. I really have a good feeling about him becoming the Doctor, and I hope it doesn't let me down!
Oh ok, I thought they were continuing Dragon Ball from where they left off or something. I'll probably watch it for the sake of watching it; and also I really loved the Majin Buu arc! Without fillers? Sign me up!
I wish more shows would do without fillers.
Right now, with One Piece, as much as I love the show, it's so easy to spot when they're filling up time. It didn't used to be so obvious, because they added scenes that were entirely separate from the manga; but now they spend an extra minute or so on something that could be condensed to one scene. I know that they're trying to fill up the 22 – 25 minutes, but it's so blatantly obvious that it's a little annoying. I will never understand why the anime companies that are trying to stay behind the manga don't just do a new episode ever other week or take short hiatuses frequently to let the manga get ahead. I'm sure it's something to do with money and that they lose money if they attempt something like that, but whatever, that's what I would do.
Dragon Ball is notorious for filling up time, haha! So it would be nice to see the majin buu arc without all of the unnecessary scenes.
On a completely different note... I have officially watched the worst anime I have ever come across. I mean, I've come across some shitty shows in the past, but this one takes the cake for me. I have never given a show less than a score of 2 before, because I never found one horrible enough to be worthy of less. But now I have. Kenzen Robo Daimidaler. There was not one minute of this that I enjoyed; I was miserable from start to finish, more so than I can say for any other stupid anime I've had the misfortune of watching. It is a landmark for me: the very first anime that I have given a score of 1.
You know how there's some shows that just resonate with you and connect with you on a deep personal level? Well this was the absolute opposite of that; I have never been more repelled and annoyed with a show in my life. The story was terrible and made no sense, the characters were terrible and every single person was just a one-sided cardboard cut out of nonsense, no backstories or memorable moments. It is literally just a show with random perverted scenes. Even the Mech fights included perverted scenes! You want to know how they pilot their robots? By being horny.
I honestly thought it would be right up my ally in terms of ridiculousness. I wanted it to be an ecchi that was amusing to watch, but no, it wasn't. If somebody told me "this is a show about mecha pilots who power up their robots by how horny they are" you bet your ass I'd watch that! Unfortunately, it was not as fun as it sounded.
It wasn't even so bad that it was funny, I just hated it with a passion. My advice is do not ever watch it ever. I'm absolutely amazed that it has a 6.47 on MAL.
I wrote a long review for it, however, it was taken down. I guess they didn't like me ranting about how it was the worst show ever.

It took me a while to adjust to the pacing of the old one; and I definitely think that the writers and directors of Nu Who just want to make the show exciting now rather than an adventure; I feel like making the stories longer and keeping the story building for a while makes the ending so much more satisfying.
Also, something I've gotten hate for from others (lol), is that I like how the older series isn't nearly as angsty as this new one. I mean, with some of the older ones, the doctor didn't have nearly as many wimpy crying moments where he had to contemplate his whole life every time something bad happened. He was able to handle situations more level headed; and didn't throw a fit every single time that somebody died.
In fact, I really like that certain scenes happened where the doctor let somebody (or alien) die because it was right; likewise, he also knew when to let somebody live. IE the fourth doctor, with the zygons, he trapped them all in their ship in the Terror of the Zygons episode and left them to die; they didn't follow up with him moping around the TARDIS for the next 5 episodes, they went about doing whatever they wanted. Then, of course, there is also the episode Genesis of the Daleks where he let the Daleks live even though they are evil. In Nu Who, the doctor throws a tantrum at the mention of a gun, or practically cries himself to sleep when somebody dies. But, obviously, that's just my opinion! Some people like the doctors of the new series better.
When they announced Peter Capaldi as the next doctor I was very happy. He's an experienced and great actor; I've seen him in other shows, and I've loved his performances in other works. (Also, wishful thinking, but maybe because he's not a young “pretty boy” they won't have to throw women at him left and right? I sincerely hope so. The amount of unnecessary romance or sexual innuendos in season 7 was embarrassing to me. I mean, I'm here to watch the doctor fending off aliens, I didn't sign up for a romantic-drama).
I was excited for the Day of the Doctor, but was equally ready to throw a fit when they didn't have all of the living doctors involved. Some people argued that they were too old to be in it. I mean, are you kidding me? They could literally drag their grandpa asses in on wheelchairs and people would just be happy to see them!
But, enough complaining!
I finally have some free time. I was internet-less the last 2 weeks, which made it slightly difficult to catch up on some of the animes I want to watch.
I didn't realize that they started up the new Dragon Ball show. I was a little wary of it, because it didn't seem like the creators had much to go on. But, I noticed that you've been watching it. How are you liking it so far? Worth watching?
I mean, either way I will watch it probably. I suffered through Dragon Ball GT, I imagine (even if this new one is crap) I will suffer through it as well.
Yeah, I hear ya! I'm almost done with my Arts & Science degree at school, so the last few months kept me away from more fun activities. Right now I'm not taking any summer classes though, but I am going to be working for a large part of it.
Still, it's nice to have time away from school!
Also, it has taken me forever, but I thought it was important to note that I completed watching all of Classic Doctor Who (or, at least, all of the available episodes, since some of them vanished from the face of the earth)!
And maybe it's blasphemous to say (and I cannot repeat this to many of my whovian friends) but I think Classic Who is better than the new 2005 one. The stories are much better drawn out and have much more interesting and creative stories, and don't rely on running around and blowing up stuff to make things interesting. Classic Who reminds me more of a problem -> solution, similar to a Sherlock Holmes story, whereas the new ones remind me of James Bond in that they have a problem arise and deal with it by yelling and causing fiery explosions. I don't know, maybe that's just my take on it...and it's weird because my enjoyment used to be almost entirely on the 2005 show, with the old one being a sort of "prequel" that I didn't care much more, but throughout the last year or so it has completely flipped, and I find all of my enjoyment coming from the one with old-school graphics and halloween-costume monsters.
I'm not quite sure when it happened, and it seems to be an unpopular opinion, but my favourite doctor is definitely the 2nd Doctor, Patrick Troughton. I don't know what it is about him, but his character has just really grown on me and the more I watch or rewatch episodes with him, the more I like him.
But anyway, I just thought I'd mention that since you're the one who recommended Classic Who (and Doctor Who) to me in the first place!
It's great to hear from you :D
Bienvenido de vuelta (?)
It's been...what? 6 months? I haven't really been active on MAL during that time. But this last week I've been trying to get caught up on a few animes while I have a break from school.
Hope your year has been great!
