"It ain't got that swing if it don't mean a thing."
I've been watching anime casually for quite a while now, and I also enjoy visual novels, which were the first anime-related medium I came in contact with. I'm generally not into manga that much, though I will go out of my way to read some if it really catches my interest.
Regarding anime, the order of the day are those with at least some measure of realism, heavier themes, darker atmosphere and matching soundtracks. World building, attention to detail and consistency are also kind of a big deal to me. I especially enjoy the DIY kind of stories which keep it ambiguous rather than streamline you into a specific conclusion. What I
generally don't like are slice of life, romcom, sports, moe, horror and a-dime-a-dozen shounen; I try to carefully pick through the anime I plan to watch in order to avoid wasting time and having to drop a series, so reviews and recommendations are always appreciated. At the end of the day, I'll consider watching anything as long as I think it's trying to show me something more than fanservice just for the heck of it.
