΄ Quick Bio about me: Hi, thanks for visiting. If you were curious about my or if you just wanted to chat, feel free to hop on anytime, I'm happy to have conversations with anyone about almost anything. I'll be a little busy over the semester so I might not respond to you quickly-but do know I try. ~ I finished all my exams for the year. Euphoria. (this was from last year, I am back in the finals hellhole again~7 Apr 2024) I'm always excited to meet new people in the anime community and get recommendations. If I send you a friend request. I just like your anime taste/reviews/want to hear your opinions. If you send me a friend request, I'll gladly accept after I take a quick look over your profile to guarantee you're not some psycho (eg. My Hero Academia fan). I'M KIDDING a lot of my friends love it and I do see why a lot of people like it. It just didn't really work for me. Fire Punch and CSM are equally my favourite mangas, I can't decide. It's like a loving mother of 2 choosing a favourite child. How am I supposed to choose? I'm not Meryl Streep. Music: I listen to quite a bit of music as well. I've listed some of the songs I've been listening to the most these past few weeks. Feel free to check them out as well. 10)””Blue - Keshi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-M5AuNBQPo&ab_channel=KeshiVEVO 9) "Funeral Grey" - Waterparks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du25FHhTX3A&ab_channel=Waterparks 8) "Under Your Weather" - Dyl Dion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Avp_c44Pfs&ab_channel=dyldion 7) "TEEN POP SENSATION" - poptropicaslutz! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvOTt9Aq4Og&ab_channel=poptropicaslutz%21 6) “Her” - Chase Atlantic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLKi0AjfoXU&ab_channel=self-sabotage 5) "la fleur" - juno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B1U_bPNi8c&ab_channel=SauceOnly 4) "The Only Hope for Me Is You" - My Chemical Romance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSye1-TBeqg&ab_channel=MyChemicalRomance-Topic 3) "Paper Walls" - Yellowcard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVgXVFAEgV4&ab_channel=Yellowcard-Topic 2) "Made For You" - RenForShort https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXbNoTQYvK8&ab_channel=renforshortVEVO 1) "Weightless" - All Time Low https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdSoooAjXec&ab_channel=HopelessRecords There are none You're not getting away with this for free pervert Ok enough of a beatdown, keep reading! How I got into Anime: I started seriously watching anime around October 2021. It was during my first year of university and I was under a quite a lot of stress from my schoolwork. In addition, the shows I had been watching became increasingly derivative and lacked any appeal. So I caved and started watching some of the anime my friends had been recommending. Unfortunately, I’ve been hooked ever since. Regardless, I’m really grateful to anime and by extension, MAL, for giving being a faucet to relieve my stress. It’s not healthy, I’m aware, but compared to some of the other coping mechanisms I could have gotten into. I think it’s somewhat sustainable. I say this as I inhale a dangerous amount of copium. Overview of the numbers and my rating process: I rate my anime with the standard mal system with specific distinctions for each tier. I will never rate a show that I am currently watching. I believe this removes a bit of the confirmation bias when watching the show as I can still keep an open mind to later developments. However, simultaneously, individual episodes/ earlier episodes impact the ratings less because I remember them less in the grand scheme of things. Instead I tend to remember highs and lows of a show much more. I also attach a "mini-review" or summary of my thoughts for each anime so you can hopefully understand why I gave each anime that score and what I liked/disliked about it. I have also categorized each scoring tier as a part of larger scoring category that might help you better understand how I feel about each anime. Favourites [8-10]: These authentic anime have transcended my expectations of entertainment as a whole. Any anime that I've scored between the 8-10 are what I would consider to be my favourites. Though they may not be appealing to everyone or even considered objectively good (whatever your criteria is). They've all touched me on a personal-level or have kept me transfixed on many of it's themes/narrative/characters leaving lasting impressions, to which I can't help but praise to the best of my ability. [10] Masterpiece: Triumphant works of art that I've had the pleasure to watch. Anime I've given a 10 are absolutely amazing anime that remind me why I watch anime. For me to score a score an anime a 10/10, I would have to have personally engaged with the themes or found aspects of the story so above and beyond that leave me flummoxed time and time again. Though it might have some problems, they are minor and negligible to the overall anime experience. [9] Genre Paragons: My favourites of each genre. I consider a 9/10 a truly great piece of anime that I view a cut above the rest. These anime shine greatly in comparison with all of their contemporaries and have shown to me what anime can achieve in each genre. The minute distinction between a 9 and a 10 would be that 9s might be slightly less consistent or slightly less technically impressive to me. However, they are typically only a couple minor setbacks away from being a masterpiece, with masterpieces typically being more well-rounded. You can consider these honorable mentions for what I view to be masterpieces. [8] Personal Gems: These anime appeal to me on on multiple-levels. Throughout the anime, certain attributes resonated with me profusely. Though they might also not have the flawlessness or technical prowess of a 9 or a 10. They may even not be enjoyed by many or even generally considered bad. But I love them to a fault. You may call these "guilty pleasures" if you will, but I don't associate the anime with any of the negative connotations the phrase brings and am mostly proud to consider these my favourites. Good [6-7]: These anime have been placed in the higher echelons of the 1-10 numeric scale for a reason. They are good, simple as that. Though I may not have engaged as heavily with these on a personal level. I recognise areas in which these anime do well in and thoroughly enjoyed my watching experience. There might have been some unideal features, typically unavoidable narrative turns, bad character introductions, or stalling arcs. But it left me feeling very satisfied and/or entertained. [7] Impartially Good: The epitomy of good anime, I thoroughly enjoyed my viewing experience. Had some flaws; either personal issues with it or other flaws. Had me satisfied and/or entertained. In some instances I might view them technically better than some of my 8s but not on a personal level. So they kinda just stall here listlessly. However my enjoyment is a fickle thing so if I do by chance rewatch it, it might change. [6] Decent: A nice anime, enjoyed most of it, but typically has glaring problems or unavoidable issues that undermine the show quite a bit. I still consider these anime better than average. Also houses some anime I've really enjoyed that are admittedly poor in quality. ~changed up to here (though to be honest, I still stand by these short descriptions) [5] Average: Had a lot of problems that I just couldn't ignore. But some stuff I did enjoy. Kind of meh. [4] Bad: Maybe a couple of characters I enjoyed, or some sort of character development or music or whatever I enjoyed, but the rest I didn't. [3] Very Bad: Got annoyed multiple times with the character(s) or certain scenes in the anime. Typically overly generic/uninspired and boring anime go here. [2] Horrible: Disappointed in the way that the characters, character development and/or the story happened. Might appreciate one or two things, but overall was severely disappointed. [1] Appalling: Pitiful and I could find near nothing I enjoyed whilst having an overwhelming amount of cringey, disgusting, uninspired, lackluster, tasteless, uncomfortable, or intolerable moments. Bottom of the barrel stuff. For recommendations: Anything between 7-10 I would recommend to anyone. A 5-6 I would recommend depending on if they like a certain genre or if I have a decent grasp of what they like/don't like. 2-4 I would recommend once I heavily understand someone's interests/ if they personally ask for an anime similar to one of these. A 1 is for no one. 45) Violet Evergarden: Great characters, compelling narratives (ep 10 especially), and beautiful animations. However some episodes are clearly better than others. 50) Komi San can't communicate:Decent anime with a simple premise, full of wholesome moments. However spoilers ahead: the kidnapping scene was really uncomfortable and completely ruined the mood set by the show for quite a while. Similarily how Tadano is treated throughout the show by other students (specifically yamai's group) is quite uncomfortable and sad. I know it's to show how caring Komi san is but i think it's a cheap way to do this at the detriment of the supporting cast. This stopped the anime from becoming a great show for me, but it's still good. 60) Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Specials: Nice addition to the Nozaki-Kun series that i thoroughly enjoyed. 70) Fruits Basket: The Final 80) Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion 90) Fruits Basket: Prelude 100) Steins;Gate 110) Yuru Campβ³ 120) Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de 130) Shingeki no Kyojin S2 140) Norigami Aragato 150) Tenki no Ko 160) 5-toubun no Hanayome Movie 170) Guilty Crown 180) Blue Lock: Unlucky bro 190) Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka? Notable Hot takes (I have many): 1) Jujutsu Kaisen is pretty good, but in the anime at least, it was dragged out quite a bit and the ending left me quite unfulfilled. 2) Unless the anime is done really well, I cannot stand harems. It makes the mc's attachment with each significant other so insincere. Specifically if you root for one specific best guy/girl and the mc has decided that they're going to "pay attention" to another character. It breaks my heart by making the relationship with the character i liked seem so shallow and meaningless. 3) Darling in the Franxx is actually extremely underrated. The show actually reaches very high peaks and has some really memorable moments. A show doesn't have to have ingenious storytelling to be entertaining. The show stuck with me for a long time after watching it. It's a really sweet romantic story at heart. Definitely not perfect but I really enjoyed the show overall. It's one of if not my favourite anime. 4) If your show's main villain/boss kills off or hurts their subordinates in some way with the guise of "instilling fear in the other henchmen" and the audience. You are not crafting a good nor smart villain. I treat it as the show not having good enough writing to create a fearsome villain naturally. There are so many ways to make a fearsome villain. Them killing hurting/killing their subordinates just directly reduces their firepower, resources, and loyalty among subordinates. Recent decision , I have decided to remove all my rating for OVAs and specials alike as I found myself typically rating them much harsher because they didn't match with the original series' quality. Which is true but they are also OVAs and specials for a reason. But this in turn was messing up my MAL average as I found myself believing I was being very unfair to some shows. I will still try to leave a couple of parting words for them and leave them as completed as it helps me keep track of what I have watched in summation. But in general for recommendations, if I liked the series, there is a high chance I would recommend the OVAs or specials unless mentioned otherwise in the tags. |
