In your signature of things that need to die in anime, I understood number 1 2 and 4, but what's number 3 mean? I saw Evangellion, but I haven't seen anime that have clones in a bad way, if that's what you meant by that.

I don't know why it toke me so long to read your sig. but I fully agree with it

I really liked your idea on the 'if you could make an anime' thread. There are manga series that touch on some of your themes. Kaiji Kawaguchi has among others Zipang, Silent Service (which have anime adaptations (!) I haven't seen yet), Eagle, and Sound of Jackboots, which address the predicament of Nisei and other people caught between their values and their situation, as well as Japanese militarism. These are all alternate histories, and all but Zipang are set decades after WWII, but as in reality, the legacy of the war is an important part of the story. Shigeru Mizuki was a veteran of WWII who made memoirs and epic series about the war in Japan, and Germany. In part of his absurd Temple of El Alamein, Yokinobu Hoshino addressed the destructive mentality of Japan's rulers during the war, and the ugliness of the U.S. occupation and post-war politics in a parody of revisionists. These manga are few and far between; only Kawaguchi's had any chance of being adapted to anime, and I don't know if the anime have the same tone as the manga. They could all perhaps be criticized for not addressing Japan's culpability head-on, but generally they're honest and they all give the U.S. a fair shake, sometimes mentioning its questionable actions but not resorting to false equivalence.

I also agree with a lot of what you say in your about page and signature. That's the foremost reason I'm into anime and manga, because I like the visual media of animation and comics, and using them to tell good stories of all sorts. I'm also into animation from the rest of the world (I love stop-motion!), although, really, the bulk of the animation I'd be interested in watching is anime. While I like anime and manga a little bit because they're Japanese, you can't say I'm more fascinated by Japanese culture than many others around the world. And yes, Japan is racist. That means I can't realistically contemplate settling there, like I can for most developed countries. That means the country is screwed in the long run, because without much more immigration, they're going to shrink much too fast (nothing wrong with a country shrinking, just the rate). Anyway, I also must confess to liking "moe" stuff, some of it anyway. I can defend it—up to a point!—if you're interested in arguing with somebody.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I just really liked what you've said and it made me think a bit.

I couldn't agree more with these two things you said:
"The fact that anime comes from Japan has no effect on me. I do not care form where I get my entertainment, only that it is good" and "The ability to show literally exactly whatever you want on screen, not bound by any confines of the real world, opens up stylistic and artistic choices that are not possible with live action".
Nice signature by the way!
