***Let it be known as an objective fact I have the greatest anime forum signature of all time.***
I never was much of an anime watcher. In fact, I'm mostly here to gauge and interact with the, quite frankly, amusing fanbase this medium has, and perhaps bring some outside air into the otaku basement homeland.
I'm not here because I love Japan. The fact that anime comes from Japan has no effect on me. I do not care form where I get my entertainment, only that it is good. There are a lot of people here who watch tons of anime and seem to love it for the fact that it IS Japanese. That's not why I'm here.
Nor am I here for the strange quirks: the fan service, the Moe, the harems and lolis and shounen and all this other fanservicey stuff. I am not here to be in some kind of special cult.
No. I am here because animation deserves not only great respect as a medium, but greater usage and utilization for telling stories other than those for children. The ability to show literally exactly whatever you want on screen, not bound by any confines of the real world, opens up stylistic and artistic choices that are not possible with live action. My wish is for more creators to embrace animation.

Fucking beautiful.
I also agree with a lot of what you say in your about page and signature. That's the foremost reason I'm into anime and manga, because I like the visual media of animation and comics, and using them to tell good stories of all sorts. I'm also into animation from the rest of the world (I love stop-motion!), although, really, the bulk of the animation I'd be interested in watching is anime. While I like anime and manga a little bit because they're Japanese, you can't say I'm more fascinated by Japanese culture than many others around the world. And yes, Japan is racist. That means I can't realistically contemplate settling there, like I can for most developed countries. That means the country is screwed in the long run, because without much more immigration, they're going to shrink much too fast (nothing wrong with a country shrinking, just the rate). Anyway, I also must confess to liking "moe" stuff, some of it anyway. I can defend it—up to a point!—if you're interested in arguing with somebody.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I just really liked what you've said and it made me think a bit.
