You're welcome! I'm not sure how similar it is to Mushishi, actually never got around to that one. That and Natsume are the shows I hear a lot of great things about but never got to. Would you recommend anything to me?

Let me know if you like it when you get to it!

Thanks for accepting my friend request! I saw your "ways of watching anime" and it felt very relatable to me! Specifically the dropped part.

Also, if I had to recommend you one anime it'd be Kino's Journey, the original version. Don't know if you'd like it, just answering the profile question.

Pretty reasonable Unlike other horror animes Shinsekai Yor mainlyi makes use of facts to scare the viewers IMO

At first I never liked the horror genre I thought horror shows only put some gore and mind disturbing elements and I thought its much better to watch hollywood horror movies like conjuring and the anime Another proved me to be right. But then I watched Shinsekai Yori, expecting it to be
an alternate version of Another with better animation, but this turned out to something totally different, It totally changed the way I see the horror and changed my view of what a masterpiece anime can be like. Thereafter I watched many other horror animes but none were as good as SSY. The animes rated above it are no match to this. Shinsekai Yori is the best show ever made

Shinsekai Yori is my favorite anime.
Episodes end with lines like
"We thought everything returned to the way it was but we were fooling ourselves."
Next episodes there will be a lot of interesting and freaking incidents. By the end this will leave you in total shock.

Shinsekai Yori has one of my favorites anime ending indeed. Not only the plot twist, but the ending situation.

For answering OP, my fav is Clannad After Story, and the main appeal is probably the music. The OST are just next level.

Shinsekai Yori is the best. I love your taste in supernatural settings. Higurashi, Re Zero and Puella Magi are splendid. Wanna be friends.
I love your taste in music too.

Stumbled upon a post of yours on the forums and I was absolutely mind blown. The thread was such a mess your post restored my sanity for a moment. It was...a normal post! Your "way of watching anime" seems pretty relatable, interesting rating system, and great taste in music too. So yeah good stuff, man. Keep it up.

It's because I've seen so much and Made in Abyss still manages to stand out and be unique that I like it so much. If I had seen it 10 or 15 years ago idk if I could have appreciates it as much as I do now even tho I probably still would have liked it.

I almost always care more about the journey, the watching experience than I care about the finale so it being inconclusive isn't really an issue for me when I loved the fuck out of every second that I got to watch. That's what counts to me in the end, how great the watching experience is and not some kind of retrospective judgment based on the conclusion. Most people are way too plot-oriented and put too much value on how a story is concluded if you ask me. For me consuming stories is about the experience in that moment, which is also why I never really linger on after finishing a series I loved. The next experience is already waiting. It's also why I rewatch relatively little. I'm drawn to new experiences, and Made in Abyss was one of the best of the last few years, particularly in anime.

The main reasons why I enjoyed it so much are

1. A general fondness for its theme of exploring the unknown, being at the frontier of mankind and struggling with extreme circumstances and MiA really going all-in on it.
2. The unique setting. Most stories either use our existing world as a setting or even if they aren't, they just mesh together a handful of established tropes and ideas to create a fantasy world that will still be very familiar to fans of the genre. It is rare for an author to really make up a whole world from scratch even in fantasy. Not reusing any races or species from past authors. Everything in the world of Made in Abyss strikes me as truly original concepts and ideas and that is as rare as it is fascinating to me. It purely originates in the imagination of the author without recycling.
3. The execution is also pretty great as far as storytelling goes. It always efficiently conveys what it wants to convey and almost perfectly combines the original worldbuilding, the atmosphere, the storytelling and its themes.
4.The show is hard to predict because it doesn't really fit into any existing subgenres and their patterns (which is related to #2). That is a gift to someone like me who has seen so much and can usually easily spot patterns and is rarely clueless as to where a show is going. The fact that I have no idea where Made in Abyss is going is exciting and rare. It really is an exploration of the unknown not just for the characters but also for me as a viewer.
5. The amazingly creative background art and set design as well as the awesome soundtrack contribute their part to make this one of the most atmospheric shows I've ever seen and any show that is top-tier in terms of concept, storytelling and atmosphere manages to get my thorugh appreciation. Even better when it also thematically is close to my core interests.
6. Pure enjoyment.

Basically almost no other shows manage to get me this excited and hyped and at the same time also have this serene, beautiful atmospheric appeal that can wrestly with the best shows in that area as well. It's a truly unique hybrid and I've never seen anything I can reasonably compare to it in anime, and very little even outside of anime. If that's not enough of a reason to fall in love with a show, then what is?

And on a sidenote my favorites aren't really ranked. My 10s are all my equal favorites and maybe even including some 9s with only Bebop having a claim to the #1 spot for managing to seemingly become better every time I rewatch (and generally being my most rewatched 10/10). I simply always display the newest additions to my favorites at the top so they're visible, since I've had a lot of the others on my profile for years already. So it is only #2 in the sense that all my 10s except Bebop are #2 if you will.

Any 10 will have to impress me in a variety of areas ranging from pure enjoyment to storytelling, plot, characters, visuals, music, atmosphere, dialogues, thematical focus etc... Made in Abyss manages to be top-tier in enough of those areas to make me give it a 10/10. It isn't top-tier in every area (no show is except maybe Bebop :>) like for example there are many shows with better characters imo, but it is still at least very good all around and really stands out in a multitude of ways that managed to leave a lasting impression of me that only a few handful of other shows ever did.

I came here to ask for some "guidance" about continuing the Chihayafuru storyline via manga since I have finished the two anime seasons that it has. Can we talk about this in direct messages ?
PS : You said that you read the manga in the s3 announcement thread. Your taste in anime is great! :p

Well I guess you might be correct, about comparing it with code geass(it had lot of meaningless stuff), but what made me compelled to complete the show was the suspense feeling, the ending, that what made me watch the show...

Well maybe its just I didn't like seeing slice of life being on top lol...
And yeah I agree, soundtracks are really cool!!! I listen to them even now regularly, Answer by bump of chicken is one of my favourite op...

Anyways thanks for reading, and for opinion, I know I haven't able to put forth right argument in justifying the 7 rating... maybe I'll rewatch it and change the review, but the problem is if I rewatch it I might end falling in love with the show, which would make my review to a 9/10 rated review, which I don't wanna do lol...

No offence peace✌
