I'm just glad to have my work all finished lol, one more year of high school left for me but before then I really need to relax and enjoy this summer. And which VNs have you gotten to? After Katawa Shoujo the only one I got a chance to play was Saya no Uta, which was pretty good but not as enjoyable for me as it seems it was for many others.
Yeah I think I saw that somewhere or another as well. I was hoping for some more backstory stuff in terms of earlier years at Yamaku though, like there was something touching about seeing that picture with Lilly, Shizune, and Misha working together for the festival and I was kinda sad that it didn't elaborate a bit more on that. And yeah Shizune was pretty stubborn, though not to the extent that I was particularly bothered by it, there were times where she was a bit pushy but it was pretty understandable. And yeah Emi's route was great, both emotional and hilarious. I'd known about Kenji's end beforehand since I took a glimpse at my friend's computer when he was going through it, but even having been prepared it was still a pretty traumatizing moment to discover I'd gotten that end lol. But it did give Kenji some good character development and the only other times he got to do much were Shizune and Lilly's routes. I remember reading on the KS wiki about how Kenji and Yuuko were actually in a relationship together and that was pretty interesting, it's too bad the game only alluded to that possibility and didn't go much further with it.
Oh awesome, yeah Part 3 was fantastic, so far probably my favorite of the JoJo arcs. Jotaro's a fantastic protagonist and part 3 really got things going with the Stands. So many awesome moments in part 3 and I'd love to re-read it. Part 4 was probably my personal least favorite, although it wasn't bad by any means. It was interesting how it took a very different style from the rest of JoJo and it's definitely unique, though at the time I read it I wasn't quite as entertained because it was relatively slow paced compared to the others. Though I'd probably like it more now than I did back then. And yeah last battle was pretty intense, couldn't help but laugh at how it ended though.
That's true, it's hard to cram in development into a movie considering there's just barely enough time to fit the plot in. It's hard for me to determine the criteria for a 10/10 though, and I imagine it is for a lot of people too, at least in the sense of specific indicators. A lot of the time it's more of a gut feeling that something is a 10/10, and by the end I'll just know if I feel like giving it such, so of course such a thing really does depend on the person. Speaking of which, that's why it bothers me when I see some critics and whatnot on MAL who act as if they have the "correct" opinion and that they have purely "objective" reasons for why a show is particularly good or bad. Obviously there are factors that would contribute to making a show better if done right, but few things bother me more than people who say something is surely, completely terrible without a doubt even though not everyone would agree. Anywho, ranting aside there, yeah it's a shame when people don't acknowledge the story and development as an important component of a series. After all, if pure action alone could drive a series then every anime watcher would probably say DBZ is undoubtedly a masterpiece, and enjoyable though it may be there are many other Shounens that orchestrate greater developments in comparison.
That's true, I'm curious about how far the anime is gonna go with 25 episodes. Good progress I'm sure but there's definitely going to be a share of content that won't make it into this anime and only time will tell if it will get a second season. In fact it might end up with one of those weird anime-only endings that ruins the chance of a sequel so we'll just have to see how that goes. But yeah it definitely bothers me that it's already in the top 10 without even being halfway through and the anime being rated higher than the manga in particular bothers me. It's definitely a good series but it's too early to declare it as one of the best out there and when people say "Best anime 2013" it bothers me because the year's not even halfway through so people really don't have any idea if something else could come up that's just as good.
Ah I see, yeah it's a busy time after all. The next couple days I'm gonna have my finals so I'm hoping to just get them all done quickly to enjoy my summer after a troublesome year lol.
Yeah it seemed like there wasn't enough of that for most of the routes. Like with Rin they never explained much why she didn't have arms and all the routes but Lilly's definitely seemed lacking with their conclusions. And yeah my favorites were Rin's and Lilly's as well, at least routewise. Characterwise Rin's at the top for me but the rest I can't decide, they're all equal for me for the most part because they're all so different yet so likeable personalities that it's hard to choose. Shizune's route was enjoyable but yeah it wasn't as good as the others in my opinion, wasn't really drawn into it until later and it was pretty slow for a while. Emi's route was really funny, and the whole shed scene was probably one of the best parts in terms of KS's comedy. And yeah Kenji comes off as weird, but playing through Shizune's route and Lilly's route I thought the same thing. He's a lot more respectable the more you see him and he ends up actually being a pretty cool guy, well, ignoring him knocking you off the roof in his bad end lol.
Oh nice, there's definitely some good progress with both of those then. It seems like at least by the time I finish F/SN, F/HA should be translated so I won't have to worry about some extended wait for that. And yeah adaptation logic doesn't make sense to me sometimes, some old things don't get an anime until a lot later. I mean JoJo is living proof of strange situations like that, I'm still baffled that something of its age actually managed to get a proper adaptation for two whole arcs after all this time.
Yeah there was a lot of stuff packed into EoE, a lot of which confused me upon finishing but it really is something fascinating after I understood more of what went down. It's pretty surprising how much Shinji and Asuka developed in that movie, but sadly not everyone got the same treatment. But yeah I liked how Shinji managed to overcome all the insanity going on around him and decided to accept humanity even though it seemed as if that was something he wouldn't have done ordinarily. It was a really powerful message and everything from the Instrumentality deal up to the conclusion was brilliant. There's something about how Shinji and Asuka reconciled in their own way that really clicked and the way it played out actually made the ambiguous conclusion help more than hurt, which is certainly a rarity for anime. I think in this case, more than getting attached to the characters further the developments made me consider the themes and connect with the ideas of the movie in a very different way than usual. But yeah, it always bothers me when I see someone who says something is terrible because it "was impossible to understand" or "too confusing to be a quality work." Stuff like that is annoying because incompetence should never be a reason to mark something down, especially on an objective basis. If anything it's the viewer's job to attempt to understand it to properly appreciate it.
Yeah sometimes it seems like people are bandwagoning when they rate it a 10 that early. Of course, there are people who've read the manga and already know what to expect, as well as that faction of people who hate it for whatever reason. Feels like SAO all over again in some ways lol. And my policy when it comes to rating is to see half of it, since I figure that way I've seen enough that I have a general feel of what it's like. Of course, there are cases where I'll be convinced to push the rating by the end (especially when it comes to the longer ones) but I find that for the most part, the rating I give halfway is either the same or very close by the end.

Yeah those were fantastic, I just wish they had more time to flesh out the characters. Especially Angel Beats though. The side cast was just kinda there so I'm hoping that the visual novel will elaborate more on some of those characters that didn't get much screen time. And yeah I was surprised about Rin too, she was probably the last character I wanted/expected to get with but after going through her route I realized she was actually a lot like me and I was very attached to her character by the end. Emi's route definitely seemed pretty obvious to start but I kinda just went with the things I would've done myself. Truth be told the first thing that happened was the rooftop ending with Kenji and that kinda bummed me out lol, but I was glad that after picking the other choice to start Rin route I not only enjoyed that thoroughly but even managed the good ending for her. Guess I related with her enough for that to happen. But yeah that bothered me about the Rin endings too, like there could've been more epilogue material since the ending felt pretty abrupt but it was still sweet to see.
That's not too bad, hopefully they'll finish up with it soon. And that makes sense, Tsukihime does seem pretty aged in comparison to Fate/stay night. One of these days I'll get to Tsukihime (and the rest of Fate/stay night, but that's gonna be much sooner). And come to think of it I still have to watch through the Kara no Kyoukai films, those look like they'd be really good.
Yeah Evangelion was very psychological near the end, and EoE definitely stayed true to it. And that seems pretty interesting, guess I'll see what I think this summer when I start those. It's too bad that you didn't enjoy 3.0, but perhaps 4.0 will make it work. I can't say for sure though since I still haven't even touched the Rebuilds.
That last scene really struck me, the way Shinji made his choice and his interactions with Asuka directly following that. I read something about Shinji choking her at the very end to confirm not only the reality of their existence but also whether Asuka would accept him or not, and there was something amazing about that. I was happy to see Asuka go back to her normal self at the very end and there was something surprisingly optimistic about that ending that speaks miles about the movie's message. And I tend to be picky about my 10s to begin with lol, a lot of the time it tends to be a gut feeling for me whether something really feels like a 10 for me personally. As for EoE, I guess it's because in the movie itself there was nothing in particular that made me love the characters more. Like in all my favorites I get extremely attached to one or a few (in some cases, many) characters to a degree that doesn't happen with other series. The character interactions themselves were handled extremely well in this movie and the themes connected to them were brilliant, but I didn't find that I liked the characters any more in EoE than I did in the TV anime. In fact I might even go as far as to say that some of the actions of the characters in the movie made it harder for me to like them than during the TV series, but obviously not to the degree that I would dislike them. Another smaller thing is that the movie did feel all over the place and incredibly complicated at times, but that's not a big issue because I personally feel it's idiotic to mark a series down just because the viewer is too incompetent to understand it. A big reason why I went investigating into the themes and some of the background behind the movie, and needless to say that was definitely worth it. Ultimately though I think I liked it about as much as the TV series, in some ways it was certainly better but there were some parts of the TV series I liked more too.
Ah I get what you mean, I didn't notice much of that since it's been a very long time since I read the manga so I've forgotten some of that. And yeah the lips seem a bit out of place in my opinion too but overall the animation does fit pretty well for the series. It's definitely too early for people to be assuming it's a top tier anime, it's good but obviously aside from the people who've already read the manga, there's really nothing that would make it deserving of the insanely high rank it has now. The first 6 episodes just barely touch the surface of the series and are by no means masterpiece level. Still have to see the 7th episode though, from what I've heard it's the part where Eren goes Titan so I'm sure that'll be glorious.
Yeah the shorter anime are limited quite a lot, and there are only a few that I've found that I really loved. Most of them can be enjoyable but too short for major development. Even stuff like Angel Beats and Ano Hana, which I enjoyed quite a bit, didn't have as much development for obvious reasons. And yeah Narcissu definitely doesn't have as much development as the more extended VNs, especially because it doesn't have multiple routes, but it's quite enjoyable for a short series, especially Side 2nd. At the moment though I'm playing Katawa Shoujo, which is pretty interesting so far. Not too much progress yet but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens, my friends have told me it's amazing.
Yeah they don't have a whole lot, guess it's a case of quality over quantity. And Mahoutsukai still isn't translated right? Hopefully that'll be finished up sometime in the near future. A Tsukihime remake, not sure why they need one but I guess it's good for the hardcore fans. Hopefully it doesn't ruin the experience and isolate itself too much from Tsukihime's original appeals.
I see, yeah I've heard the story goes in quite a different direction so I'm not sure what I'll think of that but people seem to love 2.0. And that's too bad, the psychological development is one of the big hooks for me when it comes to Eva. I hear that the movies are better for people who've already watched the original anime though and are already familiar with the original story and cast, and I think I've even seen hearsay about the Rebuilds being a sequel, which I can't understand since, well, I still have yet to watch them and wouldn't know anyway. And yeah I've heard 3.0 was really confusing and strange, but I'd imagine that it's going to rely heavily on 4.0, which will probably make or break it. Let's hope that 4.0 does it right and ends with a bang.
Speaking of ending with a bang, I finally got to End of Evangelion, and wow was that an ending. One of the trippiest things I've ever seen and honestly I wasn't sure how to rate it upon finishing. I felt the need to research into it to get better clarification about the whole thing and I discovered that there's a lot of depth and possible interpretations for it all, it's really fascinating. And just like you said, something about the ending felt extremely satisfying and I was content with it. It was ambiguous and left the final fates of everybody uncertain, but at the same time it ended at a good spot and showed a glimmer of hope in a way that really pleased me somehow. The whole Shinji/Asuka ordeal throughout the whole thing was really quite complex and the last scene in particular was something really powerful.
Shingeki's animation is pretty rough but I suppose it's to be expected since the manga had a pretty messy art style itself, probably the weakest area it had in my opinion. And yeah the fights look great in the anime, it's doing a good job so far but it seems like people are overrating the anime too early. It does get really good later on, but it kinda bothers me how with only 6 episodes it's ranked above stuff like Code Geass season 1 and Gurren Lagann in spite of those episodes having development for only like 2 characters and things really haven't progressed yet. And hopefully I can check out Maou-sama sometime, as well as a bunch of the other stuff from this season.
Thanks, yeah I've been getting more interested in VNs so I figured I would take the chance to write about those. Of course, I've happened to have some isolated time to fill in with other stuff, which is the main reason why I ended up watching End of Evangelion. Guess that's for the better since it might take me a while to get through my VN routes and it wouldn't be good if I went for too long without writing about anything. But yeah I'm really enjoying the whole blog thing and I'm hoping more people will end up seeing it.
Lol just like Tsukihime then. And yeah I've heard some less than stellar remarks about it, my friend was watching it right after Steins;Gate (well, I suppose almost anything would look mediocre in comparison to be honest) and he told me that it was very disappointing. I think he was two episodes away from finishing and got too lazy to get to the rest as of yet lol. But yeah 12/13 episodes is usually way too short, especially for a VN adaptation though. Kanon 2002 did a surprisingly good job but Kanon 2006 was better for obvious reasons. Speaking of VNs, I'm planning to play some in the near future. Since i just finished up with Kanon 06, I was thinking of playing Narcissu next since I've heard good things about it.
I see, the Tsukihime series is still one I have to go through myself. I'm sure it's great since Type Moon has done a fantastic job with the Fate material I've seen. I really should explore the TM works more.
Yeah I heard first one was basically the first part but with awesome graphics and that second movie is where things get real. It seems like a lot of people really enjoyed the second movie so I'm looking forward to it. Are the Eva movies anywhere near as psychological as the TV series was? And yeah I've heard that a lot of people were disappointed by the third movie, hopefully the last one makes up for it.
Awesome, yeah I've heard all over the place about how Shingeki's anime is fantastic and I could definitely imagine a proper adaptation for Shingeki being even better than the manga just because of the potential it has. Haven't heard much about Maou-sama but it looks like a fun series, rated pretty well too so that's something I should keep my eye out for.
Oh and I just made a blog a few days ago for my thoughts about the anime I'm watching. Not sure how it'll turn out but I'm looking forward to the possibilities.
That's good, as long as you do well in other subjects it should be fine even if you struggle with one. And yeah I hope you did well with those, it would be a pain to have to retake them.
Yeah it seems like those Scientific Adventure ones are pretty complicated with the game mechanics they use. Speaking of which, I still haven't gotten into Chaos;Head. I've heard a lot of negative things about the anime but I haven't heard much of the VN besides that it's supposed to be better. And yeah Tiger Dojo is really nice, gives some good hints along with some hilarious comedy too so it's definitely a nice thing to include.
Yeah they were kinda just there in those two, I couldn't really say that they got any character development. That said, Heaven's Feel should definitely make up for that and I'm sure I won't have a necessary perspective on the Fate series until I've gone through all three routes of the VN. Can't wait to go through HF, I hear the atmosphere changes a lot.
I see, it's always good when a series concludes in a satisfying way where there isn't some major loose ends at the end of the story. And yeah it seems like it'd be too short, but for whatever reason I've heard that the Rebuilds were actually better than the original, which surprises me quite a bit. In any case, I definitely wanna watch those but it'll probably take a while, and of course End of Eva comes first.
Unfortunately I probably won't watch much of the new stuff for a while, but there are some that have caught my eye. In particular I've been hearing a lot about Shingeki no Kyojin, loved the manga and supposedly the anime is even better so I definitely need to check that out once I get more time. Devil Survivor 2 also seems pretty interesting, I had a good time with Persona 4 so another SMT game adaptation could be pretty fun. I know there were a lot of others that I'm forgetting as well.
Yeah that can be a pain. When it comes to stuff like that, sometimes it's best to just start writing even if you're not sure how exactly it should work. Oftentimes for me, the hardest part about writing (or really, work in general) is just starting, but once I've actually gone through some it's not too hard to just plow through the rest. But it really is annoying trying to get the motivation to start writing, just as much as it is to actually get an idea for it. Anyway, you have time so I'm sure you can pull it up with some good effort.
Ah I see, seems quite different from the typical visual novel indeed. The Steins;Gate gameplay does seem like it can make things a bit complicated, guess I'll see how it goes once I play it myself. And Fate/stay night is pretty simple overall but it's true there are many dead ends. From what I recall, there are around 15 dead ends in just the Fate route alone, and I hear Heaven's Feel has the highest number of them so there are many places where you could die if you aren't careful. Luckily it's not too complicated to get through overall and even if you die, the Tiger Dojo gives hints even if you can't figure out what to do on your own (which in many cases should be a lot more obvious upon dying anyway). In any case, I'm planning to play some shorter VNs and such to get a feel of the VN gameplay style since I haven't really tried that many yet, though I have quite a few more series I have to see before I can get to them.
I see, yeah it seems like the VNs have a lot more development for the heroines than what the anime offered. Saber's was largely the same, but even then I can say that Fate route gave more detail to Saber's thoughts and situation than the anime did, and I'm sure the other routes offer even more since they don't have a 24-episode anime adaptation for me to have become familiar with the development beforehand. I'm definitely looking forward to more Sakura and Rider screen time in Heaven's Feel though, neither of them really mattered much in the first two routes so it's good that they'll both be key players in HF.
Yeah the TV Eva end is trippy, not bad but far from a real conclusion as I've said before. And that really makes me wanna watch End of Eva then, if you enjoyed it that much then I'm sure I'll also love it a lot considering how similar our tastes are. I agree on the characters, Evangelion did a fantastic job with their development, no Mary Sues or Gary Stus here. It was amazing how Eva delved into the psychological traumas of the characters and used that to connect to the relationships connecting them all, it really added to the humanity of the main cast and helped me to appreciate them a lot more. The Evas were an unusual take on the whole thing too, it was interesting that they weren't typical super robot mechas with no feelings, but actually their own life forms in a way. Eva was just fantastic and I'm looking forward to EoE, and also the Rebuild films.
Sounds like a pain, hopefully you can work your English grade up. Writing essays can be a pain, once you have an idea it's really easy to write them out but determining what exactly to write is always problematic.
Ah I see, I've heard that S;G is a pretty lengthy VN either way. I'm curious to see how the endings play out, anime like Clannad and Steins do a great job of making everything flow in a linear way for the story but I do wonder how it all works out with the visual novel gameplay style and storytelling. And yeah a walkthrough will probably help, though I still have no idea about which games really need one. It seems that Fate/stay night doesn't really require a walkthrough except for some of the endings and whatnot, though I hear a lot of other VNs are a lot harder to get through everything.
And yeah after UBW Lancer was my favorite Servant, Archer was also amazing but in terms of personality Lancer wins out for me. Though I'm primarily a Tohsaka fanboy so that was a big thing for me when it came to UBW. And apparently Rider gets a lot more focus on Heaven's Feel, since it definitely seems like her screen time was lacking in the other two routes so that's a good thing.
JoJo's anime was definitely awesome from what I saw, and that was only part 1 so I'd assume it gets even better. And glad to see you're gonna get to Evangelion, I hope you enjoy it. Tell me how End of Eva is once you watch that too, it'll probably still take a while for me to get to that.
Oh man, it really sucks when the class pisses off the teacher and gets everyone into trouble. That sorta thing can be a real pain. At least that stuff didn't end up ruining your grade though, that would be a real bummer.
How is it? I want to get to the Steins VN some time but I know I'm gonna be busy with a bunch of other stuff before I get to it. Seems like it'd be a really long VN too. My friend recently finished UBW and he really loved it, I know I will too since it revolves around some of my favorite characters in the Fate series. As for JoJo, the end to that fight was a really respectable one and I definitely liked Wham after all of that. More crazy stuff is still to come though, the last fight gets pretty over the top. The Cars battle was pretty insane from what I remember, though I forget how it was compared to the Wham fight. Either way I'm sure you'll enjoy it, part 2 never disappoints anyway lol.
