Yep. Generator Rex is excellent and was kind of at the wrong place in the wrong time. The popularity of Ben 10 and all the other awesome programming CN had in 2010 saturated the network and it fell into obscurity. If it came out today it would become extremely mainstream. I'm still rewatching it slowly as I never even got to see the final season in Bulgaria.

If you wrote it in a decent way then it might have not happened. Also literally about 60% among them aren't mainstream.

I have watched about 120+ anime and you literally are giving me this nonsense only after seeing only my top 20 lol. Just watch with your eyes open there are plenty anime which aren't even know to anyone. Also i only favorite those characters which are well written and pretty good. I really enjoy donghua and don't mind sharing to anyone that's interested. Donghua like Soul Land are nearly full episode length and will probably be 300-400 episodes by the time it finishes. It's truly a long-running shounen. A lot of the lower tiered ones have 5-10 minute episodes, so even if they have a lot of episodes they end up not being that long. I'd recommend finding whole season compilations on Youtube for those. Even though the romance in Demonic Cultivation is gay/BL, I'd still highly recommend it. I'm not into BL, but the plot is really good. Enjoy!

Then I would say Soul Land, Snow Eagle Lord, Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (gay) and Heaven's Official Blessing (gay) should fit your requirement to start with. The other shows I mentioned have romances but they're rather sporadic and for some probably even more subtle than FMP. For example, in Mortal's Journey, the protagonist tries various methods (sometimes arguably unethical) to get the girl to forget him, but she keeps coming back and plays a small-big role in every arc -- a romance never really develops. Or in Thousand Autumn and King's Avatar, a romance is hinted at, like you know they would end up together, but it's not really elaborated in the plot (at least so far). In Perfect World, the protagonist runs into a girl every few episodes, and eventually they become besties, but at least so far in the plot neither would admit that there's romance.

Romance is most evident in the 4 that I mentioned. Soul Land initially starts with a light shounen tone, the girl is introduced at like episode 5 or so. In Snow Eagle Lord, the girl is introduced much later. You could tell they are interested in each other, but the full relationship doesn't start until like season 3-4.

Carp Reborn and Way of Choices also have a romantic pair as part of its plot, but in my opinion these are a lower "mid" tier in terms of overall quality. Carp Reborn is a modern age soldier transported into a historic setting isekai, and he initially fakes a marriage for mutual benefit, but they eventually come to respect each other. Way of Choices is a typical cultivation with a cute romance toward the end.

The following are what I'd consider "low tier" donghua, in that it's clear the original author wrote an overall plot without much dialogue, and the low budget studios just filled in the script with crap. A lot of donghua are like this: The dialogues are all the same after a while, even though the overall plot isn't necessarily bad. Supreme God Emperor and Spirit Sword Sovereign have similar plot devices in which the respective protagonist marries a girl, but then the girl is discovered to have a powerful bloodline and is forcefully "kidnapped", so MC swears revenge. So there's a romance, but the girl won't be there for huge parts of the plot. Tales of Demons and Gods is another lower budget donghua that has a dynamic very similar to Naruto/Sakura throughout the show. The plot is decent at times but inconsistent in quality.

I'm not sure if by romance in Code Geass you mean the bit of tension between Lelouch and Euphie or Kallen, or the school life comedic relief when he's being scheduled to date a bunch of girls. A lot of donghua have romance like Kirito/Asuna or Naruto/Sakura/Hinata. For example, in Soul Land and Snow Eagle Lord, the main protagonists are a pair. Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation and Thousand Autumns also have pairs, but more subtle (because they're BL and censored). King's Avatar has a pair, but it's much smaller role, since they're both into gaming than dating. Mortal's Journey has a girl who loves the protagonist, but he brushes her off because he doesn't want to get entangled in the politics of have close attachments with other cultivators. Swallowed Star, A Will Eternal, Immortality, Great Journey of Teenagers and Perfect World similarly have romantic developments that are not the focus of the plot.

I can see why you would say that. I still think that you should at least give a few more episodes a try. It was really good from what I perceived.

I recommend trying Beastars again. I know it is kinda furry, but I liked it a bunch. I thought it was really good. If you don't want to, it's fine. I just highly recommend it.
