I think one will always somehow come back to the shows they once enjoyed. Time is the best helper to let you know what is important and worth a place in your memories.
1. These MCs tend to play out personas that are exaggerated on purpose for an effect from the reader by fulfilling the readers preconceived notions. Whereas these personas do not exist in reality. For the same reason seeing hikkikomori characters in manga is annoying or to see villains who are presented as visually ugly and deformed. A catering to the false notions of the reader: The bad guys have to look ugly, the good guys have to want to save everyone or have to be a moral compass.
This feeding into the reader's delusions is annoying in those cases because it makes these characters with similarities in real life look bad.
On the other side of things: If a story exaggerates characters in order to put them into a better spotlight than they actually were/are (=romanticization), if it's done well, I can get behind that.
2. It's visually unappealing for most MC stereotypes. It's not unappealing for, let's say a scientist/professor side-character. But if a character sets out to save the world or get bitches, it doesn't look good. And I don't mean it doesn't necessarily suit such an MC, it's just bad to look at and sometimes creates disparities to what's going on, creating a lot of situations that make little sense.
For example, the glasses MC is in a close combat fight. But throughout the fight the opponent never attempts to rob the MC off his glasses.
Glad you think so~
There was nothing wrong with the Monster anime, but I just wanted to know what was going to happen so I switched over to the manga. From what I remember, there was nothing wrong with the anime. It was slow moving at parts, but it's that type of story so it didn't really bother me.
As for the blog, I have no idea lol. I just wrote that on a whim, since I'm trying to write more. I had just finished Babylon, so I thought "Why not?" Your comment and words here do mean a lot though. I might try to write more posts in the future, since you've given me some much needed motivation.
As for the notification thing, I have no idea. Your best bet would be to ask the myanimelist staff.
Thanks again!
I think there are good points about the show, even if I didn't like the second half. So if you were planning on watching it, then I think you should. While there are people who agree with me regarding the second half of the show, there are equal amounts of people who loved the show and enjoyed everything about it.
As for a similar show, I would say Psycho-Pass season 1 and Monster would be the closest to Babylon in terms of the good vs evil aspect, but they do execute the story better. I never finished the Monster anime, but I read the manga and enjoyed it quite a bit. The mangaka also wrote Pluto and 20th Century Boys which are also just as good too.
