Update 2023-07-29:
Time really flies here. It was a turbulent week. I've submitted my 6 weeks notice last week. It is a small company and I was destined to take over the CTO position. But there were multiple big decision points against continuing my career at this company. A big one was the pay of course, and in the bargaining phase they even laid open their plan to fire my instructor and add his salary on top of mine. Almost sad how desperate they were.
Anyway, on my side I'm trying to be the calm ocean. Though I'm unsure about my next position. I have pretty much a sure position at space-faring testing centre for satellites, but it would be mainly on-site automations I'm responsible for. They do no even have a title for the job, only the payment secured for the next 2 years of my salary.
But I'm more leaning for the position as a Cloud Engineer at a media conglomerate. This would be pretty good step for my dream to becoming a Cloud Solutions Architect.
Big news: I've got my apprenticeship as a IT specialist/application developer and already started working for my company. This also means I cannot finish the conversion in a reasonable time. If I find the time and motivation I will continue, but it might just be another hobby which dies. I'm sorry for any caused inconveniences.
Also if you're a fellow IT-specialist with an interest to create or host a website for gaming, animes, etc. as a hobby, Hit me up! I'm not a professional, hence the apprenticeship, but I have the necessary skills.
H.265 aka HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) it is. I really considered VP9, because of the patent-free coding. but I would loose bitrate savings and more than 80% of apple devices already support HEVC. So no hassle there.
Currently thanks to the almighty NVIDIA I can transcode about 8 times faster than playback. So an estimated 16 days of video content calculates down to 48h pure transcoding time. (I think my GPU will catch flames) Adding the down- and upload translates to more stalling of new uploads.
After that however, I can provide more than double the amount of content in the same time, thanks to the average compression of 55%, due to HEVC and Opus.
Latest metadata hierachy:
Video Encoding: HEVC/H.265 (GPU-Acceleration-Support ftw)
Audio Encoding: Opus (Better compression than AAC)
Video Format: MKV (because it's the only one which supports ASS subtitles)
Subtitle Format: ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha)
Currently the encoding time is horribly long. About an hour four just an NCOP of 94 seconds. So I have to reconsider my codec choices after more researching and practical uses. H.256 aka HEVC might also be an open option again, because of the hardware-acceleration.
New metadata hierachy:
Video Encoding: AV1 (might change to HEVC tho)
Audio Encoding: Opus (WebM does not support FLAC)
Video Format: WebM (WebM > MKV incase of streaming)
Ok 150GB for one season may be too much on the bandwidth. I am about to reencode the videos itself. Any suggestions is appreciated, but I'll tend to prefer newer technologies. Therefore I will not use H264 anymore or even H265.
I'm shooting more for AV1, Daala or better VP10.
So full metadata hierarchy will be:
Video Encoding: VP10 (preferably, might change)
Audio Encoding: FLAC (still the best in case of quality and file size, prove me wrong)
Video Format: MKV (MPEG-4 Part 14 aka MP4 only if rly necessary)
Still searching for your anime with the best subtitles possible or even the best quality Blu-Ray?
Temporary disabled, because of a legal copyright warning. :(
I'll look how to make it available more private or exclusive.
P.S.: I will make the link excluisve after a while to prevent copyright strikes or other legal consequences.
Use it in combination with Kodi so you can stream the selection of animes instead of downloading.
Just install the add-on to access the shared Google Drive folder, otherwise you cannot see the subtitles as those are encoded within the .mkv files.
Every single episode has the official name on myanimelist.net integrated in the naming scheme:
(Anime Season Name) - (S##)(E##) - (Episode Name)
You can message me anytime for questions or other anime content.
Still in progress of uploading better quality:
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! (Already downloaded but still sorting out the which animegroup delivered the best subs/quality)
