Hello all!
My name is Jackson and I am a piano-playing carrot-hating genetics-loving ambiverted moralist who has been admiring anime as an art form since middle school. Before viewing my list, I'd appreciate it if you took the time to look through the following disclaimers:
1) Like all lists, this one is subjective and cannot in any way alter the inherent values of the shows in it; the rating system (as it is used here) is based on how much I enjoyed the shows in question.
2) My rating system is also based on how much I enjoyed the shows relative to each other. For example, a 1 does not mean I hated the anime (contrarily, it is possible that I enjoyed an anime that I also rated a 1); it simply means that it was among my least favorite shows. The reason I did this was to make it more clear which shows I liked over others; if I did a classic scale where 1 was "terrible" and 10 was "masterpiece", then the vast majority of shows on my list would be squished together in the 5-10 range, and 1-4 would barely get any use.
3) The following pillars are what dictate whether or not I enjoy a given show (or movie, or book, for that matter):
[CONCEPT]: The premise of a story is the foundation upon which the majority of the rest of the show is built. The following fall under this category: World-building, Originality, and Consistency
[PLOT]: Making up the primary substance of a show, the plot (a story's events) has much influence over whether or not a show is enjoyable to me. The following fall under this category: Rising Action, Conflict, Climax, and Falling Action.
[CHARACTERS]: To drive a plot forward, characters are needed. However, in addition to being tools that initiate plot events, good characters must also be well-developed; they must be consistent and genuine with regards to the way that they were written and designed. The following fall under this category: Consistency and Development.
[SPECTACLE]: The final pillar is like the cherry on top; it adds flavor to the main part without inherently altering its substance. The following fall under this category: Animation, Music Score, Storytelling, and Tropes.
It is important to note that these pillars must work in tandem for the show to be enjoyable to me; it is not enough for a concept to be alluring if the show is weak in plot and character development, and vice versa, for example.
