-------------------------------'99 | she/her | MAL Badges
Hey there, Stranger. I joined MAL in 2016, but I have been watching anime and reading manga on-and-off since way back... My first anime ever was
this classic, thanks to my brother monopolizing the TV when we were younger and forcing me to watch the series with him. Eventually I started getting into some shows myself, and here we are today. My life revolves around music and videogames, so you'll probably find me constantly updating and decorating my profile with snippets of that here and there. My lists (especially my manga list) still need to be updated and reorganized.

---------------------------------------------------Anime & Manga
Generally speaking, I try to watch/read as many different things as possible before forming an opinion on anything. I don't discriminate against genres or themes in themselves; I've found hidden gems in the seemingly insipid catalogues of mainstream shounen and CGDCT, just as I've discovered subpar 'cerebral' sci-fi and avant-garde/experimental productions recommended by some random elitist rankings online. I pick stuff to read/watch in a very simple way: by reading the synopsis. If it interests me, I give it a go. That said, I do have a soft spot for mythology and Japanese folklore, coming-of-age stories, old-school shoujo, slice-of-life-ish works, and the rarely well-done horror in anime (but usually great in manga).
—Among my favorite anime directors (to name a few, as this list could easily get extensive) are: Hayao Miyazaki; Satoshi Kon; Kunihiko Ikuhara; Takahiro Oomori; Mamoru Oshii; Isao Takahata.
—Among my favorite mangakas are: Osamu Tezuka; Okazaki Kyoko; Matsumoto Taiyou; Moto Hagio; Asumiko Nakamura; Keigo Shinzou; Junji Ito; Usamaru Furuya.

--------------★★ 07—06 ★★: I had a good time watching/reading this. That's all there's to it, though.

Happy birthday! I hope you are having an amazing day!
I'm also really excited to watch the other suggestions you gave me. They sound really interesting, and I appreciate how much thought you put into making your suggestions that cover a lot of my interests. Thank you so much again!
we have similar taste let's be friends! :D
I mean, you'd have to define "a long time" but I've been reading it consistently since 2019. I've slowed down a lot because of my job, though.
> I can breeze through chapters faster than I can watch anime episodes. Committing to a few manga chapters a day feels manageable and keeps me engaged without overwhelming me, which is why I haven't taken a break from it nowadays
Exactly this. Anime feels like a big commitment to me and I said something very similar to another person I'm talking right now.
Ah, I differ. I don't think anime and manga are incomparable because they're different mediums. Manga easily bests anime and that's because it's only the most generic trash that manages to adapt itself into an anime, with exceptions, of course.
And I see you're like me - less anime, more manga. It's because of the better content, right?
I'd highly recommend Wan Sheng Jie.
There's also Korean anime, if that interests you.
Which of my favs caught your eye?
