I have only seen season 1 of g1 so i'll mostly speak on it though i do know how some of the other seasons fare

G1 tries, it tries a lot for what is a 20 minute toy commercial, it doesnt always succeed but when it does it manages to be pretty awesome, it has a surprising amount of continuity and some character moments (mostly on season 2 since it starts having episodes focusing on specific characters). Its pretty straight forward in its plot but it has some pretty insane or confusing developments, the decepticon characterization at least in season 1 is more in depth because they are a very chaotic dysfunctional family, while the autobots do feel a lil bland (there's like 20 of them fighting for screentime) Optimus Prime, Jetfire and The Dinobots always manage to have some good moments, mostly Optimus since he becomes the emotional focus of a lot of episodes.

Overall i'd say you can do better when it comes to experiencing the insane mythology of Transformers but G1 is comfy and when it wants to go hard it does

I don't have much knowledge of the series aside from the initial one. I'm reading the manga for the first time but I've seen the corresponding 1986 anime. For the longest time, this anime had really bad fansubs which I think they've been improved by now when Netflix briefly had the series. A new English dub was also made which completed the 1986 anime as it's been incomplete twice before with DIC & ADV Films. The main series is the 1986 anime along with the Hades Saga stuff which is the final arc of the manga. So the order goes Saint Seiya 1986, Hades Saga Sanctuary, Hades Saga Inferno and Hades Saga Elysion. There's a movie called Heaven Chapter Overture but I don't know if ruins the ending of the Hades stuff. The 1986 anime also has 4 movies but they're like DBZ films as they follow a similar format. They're not necessary to watch. The 1986 anime does have filler and changes from the manga but it's still very entertaining. The music and art really stand out. In comparison to other shonen, Saint Seiya is very action heavy but does utilize character drama akin to Fist Of The North Star. There's a lot compassionate scenes between enemies and friends while occasionally showing sorrow. Most of the character stuff occurs during battle which can get brutal and bloody. There's definitely a lot of cool stuff to it too, especially when it comes to armor designs. Although the fighting does vary in quality as it mainly consists of projectile attacks. The series is also unintentionally responsible for starting bishonen and yaoi due to the character Shun. Most of the characters have very handsome designs while some look manlier than others. I'm really fond of Kuramada's hairstyles that he drew for his characters. It's also unique how the series uses constellations as its lore which helps in making each character different. Dragon Shiryu & Phoenix Ikki were the standouts for me. I don't really know much of the other series but here's what I got. Soul Of Gold & Saintia Sho connects with the 1986 anime but they're only watchable after you finish the main series. Lost Canvas is a prequel series. The artstyle and music are completely different but I heard it's good. Saint Seiya Omega is a kiddy sequel to the main series. Omega is basically the kid phase of Yu-Gi-Oh! anime as it features new characters while the original cast are veteran members who only appear in specific episodes. There's a 2014 cgi standalone movie called Legend Of Sanctuary that attempts to squeeze in a major arc. The characters are drastically redesigned that it looks very tokusatsu. To me it didn't resemble the series at all. There's a cgi series called Knights Of The Zodiac which is loosely based on the anime & manga. I didn't really bother with it but there were major changes from what I saw. I think the manga, Next Dimension & Episode G, are the other big things to come out of this series that fans like. Lastly, there was a live action movie that came out in 2023 but I don't think anybody liked it. After seeing the trailer, I didn't want to see it. So I'd recommend watching the 1986 anime and the Hades stuff. I guess you could watch the first anime movie as to give you an idea how the series is. I wouldn't venture into other things unless you liked the original show. If you want to look at the multiple character designs here's a trailer for a game called Brave Soldiers which features the majority of the characters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUhLrA6Fa1c&list=PLyldWtGPdps2-VlqOn4yXDD5MGVFs4pV7

Watching Silent Mobius huh? You'll have to tell me how it is. I've had it on my plan to watch list for years but still haven't gotten around to it. It looks interesting

To me it was a very fun battle shonen. It had a little bit of everything complete with the absurdity of the "final arc problems." It's strange because there's an obvious early Dragon Ball influence especially in the tone & monster designs. You can even spot oozaru & Shen-Long mixed in there. But there's also elements of other shonen from its time period. An example is Hyunkel feels like a Saint Seiya character. The villain Hadler gets so much characterization and becomes this manly villain that's on par with Raoh. Many of the villains have diverse powers and looks that they resemble akuma choujin from Kinnikuman. Even the last villain, Dark King Vearn, takes the series to some uncomfortably dark scenarios that reminded me a lot of Devilman. Plus, every now and then characters like Baran, Hym, Hadlar, all have that manliness you would see in Fist Of The North Star. Popp became my favorite of the heroes and it's all because of his take on the hero's journey. He's so unlikeable at the start of the series but becomes a genuine hero. Dai is the main character and even he has a lot of growth as well. At first I felt he was too special but halfway through the series we start seeing his vulnerabilities. The tone of the anime is really fast and I appreciate how it easily jumps from one arc to the next. The final arc does have some rough areas but I think it pulled through in delivering a good story. I do wish some of the other support characters got a little more to do. In terms of villains, this rendition of Dragon Quest has a lot of good ones. I got hooked almost instantly and I kept watching for nearly 30 days till I finished it. Dragon Quest Adventure Of Dai feels like a mandatory shonen or at least a classic. It's certainly one of the definitive fantasy anime more so when it has slight connections to the Dragon Quest games.

Damn I dont remember the movie good enough to notice it was actually the same story :0
Since I dont remember the father at all

Lol he watched it that much? Well guess thats what happens when there are barely any movies...xD
But yeah the manga felt very Disney-ish, maybe also because it was in colour?
And yeah a bit dumb and also sometimes a fast pacing xD
What are you gonna read next?
valoon Feb 3, 2023 11:05 AM
hehe well yeah it only recently got some attention again after all xD
How did you like it?
Dankujio99 Jan 22, 2023 12:33 PM
I enjoyed it. Rarely we ever get manga based around American history, yet alone ones that are fully translated. The mangaka showed he research Native American history thoroughly and made a compelling revenge story. One flaw I did find in this manga is the last arc, because I personally don't find big battles all that interesting. Overall, it's a good manga.
