Hello. As one would guess, I'm a simple anime-enjoying man. I enjoy reading too, and though in times past I oft looked upon comics as mere imitations of true novels, I've come to enjoy the nuances of the medium. Expressions, scenes, and characters once confined solely to my imagination became living panels, and in a way I felt more connected with the characters. I still do enjoy a good book though :) I'm currently a devout Catholic, and don't particularly enjoy ecchis. Lots of the anime I watched earlier on have a higher score than I'd give them now, and I even lowered a few of them by at most a point so as not to effect my ratings too much, but take all of them with a grain of salt. I don't love action, but I can appreciate beautiful animation. I find myself more drawn to characters and their change over time, and I like a good mystery. As a teen myself, lots of times "teen drama" feels unrealistic and superficial, so I tend to rate those lower. I don't rate anime objectively at all, and it's only really based on my personal enjoyment. A 5 is the point where I didn't enjoy an anime at all, but I didn't actively dislike it, and everything is based around that. Usually every anime has at least a few redeeming qualities, and while at first I pledged to watch every anime I started all the way through, I quickly realized I wasn't a masochist. The way I enjoy music is a little weird, but I love all of the FMAB songs, the second ed to Bungo Stray Dogs, Heart of Sword, Bye Bye Yesterday, and Kyoran Hey Kids. My favorite song is the first Made in Abyss opening, and my favorite anime band is Myth & Roid. The haunting vocals and robotic voices... I love pretty much all of their songs and nearly died when I heard they were collaborating with Kevin Penkin. My 100th anime was FMAB. 1st was Rurouni Kenshin, although I missed lots of episodes and didn't know what an "anime" was at the time, so you could also say SAO (;-;) was. I'm currently learning Japanese and C++ and attempting to write a novel. All for fun though! Nice meeting you..?
(Here's a comment added on 8/10/23:)
I haven't really watched any anime over the past few months, I think I know why too. At first I thought that MAL's gamification of anime was a good thing, watching my numbers go up was fun after all. I realised though that it was seriously retracting from my enjoyment and I was watching things all the way through just for the sake of saying I watched them/ seeing my numbers go up. From now on I'll be watching less and dropping things a lot more, just know I'm trying to distance myself from the elitist (not always of course, but sometimes) idea that real anime fans will watch series all the way through. Maybe that's even just my perception of the anime community though, because lots of people do talk about that three episode rule where you drop it if you don't like it... anyways this is more a comment to my future self as a commitment than to anyone reading this, but if you have... ya i dunno what to say... go you! (Currently I've dropped 23 and watched 123)
