I get what you mean. I usually feel stressed in life but I try to calm it down so shows like this or general ihekai (the healing type of anime) or whatever it was called reallty used to help me calm down a little. There was even a show called barakamon that helped me out through really tough times and is one my top 3 favorites of all time. So it does make sense to have love these kind of shows not gonna lie.
On the 1-year watching anime note, I think this is mal doing some miscalculation. On anilist, I found that I have spent around 178 days or something which is much more acceptable given I have been doing so for around 10 years or so. Watching anime on 2x to 4x (which helped me finish 150 eps of one piece in 5 days) and reading the ending of a show or its manga and then adding the show to finished also helped inflate the number but yeah, I generally followed short 12-13 eps anime which takes so little time to finish.
But the idea of watching CGDCT wasn't always bad. Sure some of them were horrible like Slow Start for example but some were just too good like Bocchi and Colors. I watched a lot of shows that go down the heavy bad romance/drama cliche that I just wanted to go away from all that. Also watched a lot of "harem" shows that pretty much follow the pattern of marrying the first girl you meet and only adding girls to sell more beacuse of people fighting for shippings. So the healing type of anime has really helped me personally and is one of the reasons I still watch anime today despite leaving it for 1-2 years I think. Also having Gintama around always lets you know that something that great can be made.
