I'm SonDavid. Anime / Manga fan and aspiring writer.
Hey there,
Since Nov '17, decided to become more proactive on the site. Comment or message me if you want to discuss Anime/Manga related content!
If you want to read my written series, I started publishing and give any feedback, here it is: https://www.honeyfeed.fm/novels/17152/chapters
Check my Attack on Titan (season 1) review (it has been polarizing, but it is well written). I will do the series review when the movie is released and will post it on the Final Season, Part III. When you read it, you'll see what I consider to be the best of the best in anime.
In terms of Manga, Berserk and Monster are in a tie for me.
This industry, with all its ups and downs, has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I really hope it continues to grow.
Special Note: R.I.P. Kentarou Miura. Your impact in the industry I love is immeasurable. You were the author of one of the most iconic series of all time. Your art set the standard around the world. Thank you for giving me Berserk; for me, the greatest manga ever created. I will always treasure it.
Thank you for stopping by,
SonDavid.

I have watched anime for about 26 years now, and I told myself that after AoT ended I would take some time to reflect on what that show meant to me as a fan and critic. To me, it felt like the "Final Act" or "Endgame", if you will, of all the amazing, normal and terrible Anime shows I needed to watch to appreciate all the production of AoT. This was my series finale of the kid who started watching Dragon Ball all those years ago. Decades of the industry -- with the experience of all the animators / produces / directors / writers that have come and gone allowed AoT to be real. To exist. To become the pinnacle of Anime, as of 2024.
This show was the result of decades-long, collective effort of an industry who is filled with professionals who are the absolute best at what they do. This is why -- in my opinion -- the more in tune and experiences you are with Anime (and Manga) the more you are able grasp the full value of AoT.
I knew this would happen, so I made sure to -- like Marvel after Endgame -- to take a break. Series over. Final Episode. Closed Chapter. This break included not watching any NEW Anime for a while because I wanted to watch them when I had the right mindset to appreciate those works in a way that I would be entertained and not hold them to impossible standards.
Most people do not realize this, but the concept of inflation applies to perception of entertaiment. Once you experience the very best, a deep internal exercise is required by the viewer to appreciate everything but the best oncer again.
This is where I was when AoT ended. And I am happy I took this break. So what did I watch first that I had not watched before? The original Mobile Suit Gundam. A series from 1979, broadcasted 45 years. And you know what? I liked it so much I watched Zeta Gundam (the sequel from 1985) and I realized -- from the future -- just how good that was, as well.
At that point I realized the break had done me wonders. Someone in their 30s in the year 2060 might one day watch Aot -- a show betwen 55-45 years old at the time and understand, regardless of what had relased by then, why it was the show that set the standard in 2024.
So now, I wil start watching new shows (after I finish some backlog ones I cannot leave there anymore :D) and continue in a new chapter where I enjoy every show for what they offer, knowing full well what has come before them... and not hold them against them.
Finally, I have decided to revise my Anime ratings (the top ones specially) because "10" for me now does not mean the same thing it did before the end of AoT. As with any healthy society, controlled inflation is a sign of properity... and I am not expecting the next "Attack on Titan" anytime soon.
PS: You might read this comment above in my AoT / SNK Final Season Chapters review, which will work as a series review as well. Look forward to it.
As someone with a majority of established and well-known anime in their top 20, what do you think of the recent/current anime scene?
