I got into anime by watching hentai (first hentai ever was Makai Kishi Ingrid)and playing nukige .At the time I was Catholic and since porn was regarded a one-way ticket to hell I told myself that because the girls weren't real God didn't consider it a sin. (it still was, but I pretended I didn't know that) The first "real" anime that I watched was Girls Und Panzer that I discovered by accident when looking for a PZ IV model kit. I have only ever watched subbed anime as dubbing often sounds grating. (especially with lolis)
I prefer Sci-Fi over magic/fantasy, I'm not a fan of the 'I am gong to get really passionate and then gain more power from nowhere' that you see so often in magic or superpower shows. Some shows like Symphogear or SAO are cool enough to pull it off.
I put all the shows I have a strong distaste for in my 'dropped' list. As for my rating system I only give scores of 1, 2 or 10. A score of 1 = not redeemable in anyway and a complete waste of time. A Score of 2 = Had potential but managed to drop the ball in a serious way. A score of 10 = All expectations for the show were met or the show has a criminally low rating.
I'm a big advocate of loli and ecchi. I understand that those things don't appeal to everyone, but their existence should still be supported because if the vocal minority in the anime community that believes anime sexualizes minors garners enough attention then alot of anime/manga could be considered obscene material.(keep in mind how much anime takes place in high school) It sounds a bit paranoid, but it's happened to an extent SK and AU.
I'm also generally against catering to foreign audiences in anime/manga. In order to gain a larger global market studios could remove content that would offend other cultures' taste : fanservice, certain humor,yuri/yaoi, violence, loli etc. The end result would end up taking away much of what makes anime unique and refreshing.
