I did not like it so i gave it a negative review. Stop acting like i attacked anyone directly. We are all entitled to like or dislike any show.
If you like the anime thats fine.
And I even said that there are great aspects about the anime. But for some reason you completely ignored the positive things i said in the review 🤔
In the review i said it was "not for me personally".
I dont see whats wrong with me expressing myself.
Some people hate the anime i love. Some people love the anime i hate. Thats fine with me.
I can't agree. Sawamura does nothing to justify him having a spot on the main team. In the first season, at least, there is 0% chance that a highly competitive school doesn't have a batter pitcher than him. On at least three occasions, he fully breaks down and completely loses his ability to pitch. With the last one being unresolved at the end of the series.
If the series actually used real logic, this kid might have been able to apply to the school but there's no chance they go out of their way to scout someone as a pitcher who has no control. I don't even like sports and even I know that's the most basic skill someone needs to be a good pitcher. Similarly, if the series used any kind of real logic, this kid would never get a spot on a highly competitive team's main lineup. Maybe a secondary lineup with the chance to move up if he improved. You said it yourself, this school has 82 kids. There is absolutely no shot that there isn't a more deserving pitcher in that group given how bad Sawamura is in the first season.
I'm not denying that he shows improvement in the later seasons. I'm sure he does. But in the first season, him being a major player on a highly competitive team doesn't make any kind of sense. Especially with him being scouted and I will completely stand by that statement.
To put it simply, he's the worst protagonist I've ever seen in any sports anime and I have seen a few (One Outs, Free, Princess Nine, Yuri on Ice, Hinomaruzumou, Ayane-chan High Kick and Battle Athletes.)
We'll have to agree to disagree but one thing I would point out is that in Hunter x Hunter Gon earns his spot as a hunter by going through trials. He isn't scouted and just given a spot the way Sawamura is. One of these protagonists earns their spot, that's Gon. The other, Sawmura, is handed it completely undeserved. It makes no sense from a rational perspective for a prestigious and competitive baseball school to scout a pitcher who hasn't mastered the basics of controlling the ball. Gon is also a much more complex character with stronger relationship dynamics and a more fleshed out personality. You really can't compare the two. The only ways they're similar is in their ages and genders.
It wasn't just the pacing I had a problem with. If you had read my review you would notice that I had a major issue with the plot. Mainly, the protagonist gets scouted for a heavily competitive sports school that he is in no way qualified for. He quite literally doesn't have either the skills or the determination. To quote myself "Here’s another huge problem I have with this series. It’s set up so that we, as the audience, are supposed to be rooting for Sawamura and we’re supposed to see him as a pitcher with amazing potential. But he comes across as a rubbish player. He can’t control where his pitches go for shit. He’s constantly breaking down at crucial moments, screwing the team over and having to be coddled to regain his ability to pitch." I also found the characterisation to be beyond flat and the characters to be utter rubbish.
