Well >> kissasian.lu << does have Limit :) Maybe you accidentally hopped on a fake site (different domain). Of the dramas I've seen, kissasian only didn't have 1 cdrama (Bad Guys) otherwise it's never failed me. Kinda itching to continue Limit too once I'm done with Flower of Evil, so go ahead and test the waters for me x)

Glad you liked the clip! The anime as a whole is gonna feel very weird especially that you haven't tasted the Ikuharesque before, but do judge for yourself lol.

P.S forgot to add "kimi" to the list of yous, im scared to google how many more I'm missing rofl

The name of the first season is just >> Jigoku Shoujo << :D The whole manga is covered with seasons 1-3. There is also S4 (the one you added), it's got the lowest rating as half of it is just re-airings of randomly selected episodes from previous seasons - beats me why they made that choice lol. The first 6 episodes are new content though. Anyway, get ready for a dark and emotional journey and ofc lmk your thoughts if you start it! I remember me and a friend of mine pledged to never rewatch certain episodes as they were too hard hitting lol.

Oh yeah. I used to think Watashi / Ore is just gender dependent, but the more I watched anime the more I saw there's got to be more about it. And yes that's my impression too whenever I google Japanese words or phrases: rarely a simple "this word means that ", usually there's: cultural context, genders, level of formality, it must be pretty daunting to memorise all of it. Some other examples that I know of is saying "you" - I figured "kisama" / "onore" is mostly used to address someone rudely/aggressively, but again doesn't seem like it's a rule, "anata" is the normal "you" but also a way to refer to the partner you're married to, however only if you're a woman?? "Omai" is yet another "you" afair. Can only imagine how many of these things one has to learn if he's being serious about mastering that language :D
Interesting though to hear that Korean doesn't seem so complicated in that regard as I assumed most Asian languages have that in common. And nice to know that at least grammar (tenses) look simple. So Japanese also had less straight forward grammar rules in your perception?

Ah you can't view the vid. I guess this is what the "Partially blocked" label YT assigned to my vid means! Let me just send you to the >> episode << itself I guess! It's 09:32 - 10:58.

Pardon late response, smol online activity break!

No subsequent watches will ever carry the special emotions of the 1st watch, truee! But I believe this is why people came up with the "rewatch value" metric! :D Like the shows that I know the story by heart and they don't have much to offer outside of the story, I say rewatch value is low - I would need to forget it all or most to even consider another go! That rarely happens and takes a few years at least.

But then there are anime/series that have much more to them than just the story! Characters that you really liked and you'd gladly see them interacting again (the feeling may be amplified by the presence of your fav VAs/actors), OST. Memorable scenes.

Say FMAB, if I ever rewatch it again (not any time soon), I'm looking forward to seeing Fuhrer President Bradley, his son Pride, Scar's backstory of the Ishvaal war, the death of Hughes episode and Colonel Mustang carrying out vengeance against Lust, Kimblee scenes too - probably my favourite villain in FMAB! And also >> this << , the scene that always gave me chills! Things like that highly increase the "rewatch value" of a show for me even if I know the story (and it's not like I remember every episode progression by heart in a 64ep series).
I do generally agree though that it's better to hunt for the "special emotions" in new shows and that's what I mostly do nowadays as well :)

I had a feeling you could get interested in Jigoku Shoujo, and you totally should! :3 Just remember to start from S1! (saw you add S4 to the PTW x)) As for stack challenges, I've never done any actually. Too afraid that my watching experience could turn into a chore! :D wbu you doing any?

Jimenshitachi, aye saw that on MDL! In fact my mom who just recently been to Tokyo for 2 weeks, and who previously full disliked Asian dramas, is now binging the Japanese shows available on Netflix and that's on her PTW! Right now she's watching "Mitaraike, Enjou Suru". Slowly joining the dark side and I'll def use this opportunity to sneak in some non-netflix kdramas/jdramas for her to see!

Soo, apart from it being a unique one, what are the reasons why you found Korean alphabet easier to learn compared to the Japanese? Curious about your thoughts and what were the biggest issues that eventually made you drop it. You're the first person I met that tried to learn both so I wonder what you have to say about it! Can go all technical in the explanation too, I'll google if I'm missing something!

As for Mahou Shoujo, I only watch a specific subset of that, and that's so called "genre deconstructions". Madoka Magica, Mai-Hime, Princess Tutu, Utena, all these are classified as Mahou Shoujo but they're actually darker and more twisted and that's the real selling point for me :) SM though I kinda forced myself through because I only wanted to see the S3 directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara - Sailor Moon S! I love how he uses surrealistic stock footage (people either love it or hate if for "repetitivity") and having already seen his other shows, was curious of what he did in SM x) Here's an >> example << of that in one of his works. The voting part we see in almost every episode of Yuri Kuma Arashi and I personally never get bored of it!. Btw just realised, Pyramid Game vibes!

Thanks for the recs! Good to have some titles to look at if I decide to start the webtoon journey! Tho it's the kdrama adaptations that I'm mostly after. Strangers from Hell I have seen & enjoyed! Was also my first wt adaptation that later sent me directly to 'Save Me' (cause of same screenwriter and also WT based).

Phobossus Aug 5, 11:34 AM
Aye, well unlike you I did enter the hype train for AoT :D Started when it was fresh (just 1 season) and my anime count back then was also fairly low. I remember it to be the first incomplete anime of the ones I'd seen that actually received a continuation, which I couldn't believe as I was so used to all my then favourites having 0 chance of getting new seasons xD D. Gray-man, Vampire Knight, Rozen Maiden to name a few. Anyway - if they did anything right in later seasons, it's >> this << opening xD Must be the only OP I rewatched multiple times lol. The touch of surrealism and the music are so my thing :D Did you like it too?

Haha no you're not the only one but there were so many cases where I literally forced myself through shows I was highly sceptical about because of some opinions/recommendations I read, knowing there's supposedly a check-point I have to reach for it to get decent. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it... doesn't and I'm super mad xD But this time around I only go for shows that hook me in instantly! x) Because usually I end up rating them 8-10, which is the range I use for exceptional shows, and we all want to maximise exceptional experiences don't we!

By the way, you ever rewatch your favourites? That's another crisis-solver that I tried and worked fine! Not my preferred solution because prior to 2020 I was stuck in a loop of seeing FMAB, Code Geass and a few others over and over every few years, hardly ever trying out new things xD ("nothing can ever be as great as your favourites, just watch it again my guy!!!"). But I still rewatch occasionally when I get into that "ffs everything is mid at best" mood! This year I rewatched Jigoku Shoujo - and in fact it was the direct trigger that sent me back to kdramas because I knew there are some similar shows out there and I had an urge for another episodic series about human flaws (but tbh Jigoku Shoujo is much darker than any "kdrama equivalent" of it that I so far saw).

About Limit, it's basically about a group of girls stuck together in a forest after a bus accident. They seem to hate each other for reasons that I believe are gonna be explored - that part looked interesting, the survival forest setting not so much (for me). I'm probably going to give it another chance in a while because it does have potential if it focuses on the former not the latter!

I couldn't find any mentions of "Tokyo scoundrels", maybe it's so recent it's only beginning to exist xD Got a link to the synopsis or smth? (prolly just remembered the name wrong? :D). Worried there might be no subs tho, that's my usual experience with shows that I find that are too fresh :D Meguru Mirai being the most recent example. Tbh I feel like the time to start learning Japanese is coming! Either this winter or next year! So many words and phrases that I already know, might as well get more professional with that :D

Definitely I did see some overflashbacked shows! I don't like when they just keep showing the same scene over and over every two episodes as if they thought I have amnesia xD especially if the scene isn't even that much important or great in any aspect. But the ones I'm talking about are used for character exploration and they're always new content, those I very much fancy x)

As for Bleach, the main problem with its fillers is they just threw in 30+ ep anime-only arcs in the freaking middle of main arc rofl. And they did so like 3-4 times xD They caught up to the manga and decided to go all creative before new content is released. But honestly that was mostly the problem for the poor lil fellows that watched it as it aired. Imagine you're all invested in the story, only to learn that the next episode is entirely new setting and you're gonna have to deal with it for the next 6 months xD!

I do get not wanting to skip fillers tho! For a long time I was the same :3 In fact Bleach is the first time I actually skipped entire filler arcs (the ones I mentioned earlier). Even with Sailor Moon (that I never thought I would watch lol) I couldn't convince myself to do full filler skips, so as a compromise with myself I did fast-forwards instead x) Also I've seen so many examples of great individual fillers/filler arcs (that I wasn't even aware were fillers) that I always do a case-by-case examination before I make a decision!

And as for me not liking BL content, well the specific reason is that I'm a straight guy :D Romantic scenes between males just put us off to be blunt! Girls I believe don't feel that way but we do, and whoever says otherwise isn't honest haha :D I think I get the point about originality of the plot though. Also I don't really watch romance focused stories anyway, straight or gay. I don't mind that much if it's an addition to the story, but i.e pure romance kdramas would bore me to death :D

Btw, watching this atm: Golden Spoon ! I dunno what it is with webtoon adaptations but I seem to be unconsciously attracted to them, yet another show that pulled me in soooo fast, turns out to be one! Since you said you read them (a lot?), got any WT based kdrama recs in the psychological genre, or just any that you believe I would like? :D
Phobossus Aug 1, 2:45 AM
I will not mince words, ending was pure garbage xD The incorporation of time travel and this apparent "it was Eren's plan all along because lil bro kept changing the past as he deemed fit and also actually orchestrated death of his own mother, the key event that actually started the whole journey" was super confusing, pointless and made no sense to me. Imho the peak of AoT will always be the mystery - the journey to learn about the genesis of the world, uncovering new pieces of information on who the real enemy is, and the atmosphere of tragedy and horror on every step! It went downhill from the moment they discovered the basement - the checkpoint that I was always looking forward to but somewhat felt disappointed by the reveal. Not like the story wasn't interesting later, but it just didn't carry the same excitement that the first few seasons did - might also have to do with the change of director, which I learnt about when I was wondering what tf happened to my immersion x)

As for what I'm watching, I actually had a mini crisis again ever since completing Life! Starting and insta dropping shows like there's no tomorrow x) I really wanted something that'd pull me in instantly the way all other dramas since I came back from break did. When I choose a show and there isn't this inner desire to start another ep after I finish the first one, I always feel like something is wrong and start questioning my choice lol.

Tried the first 1.5 episodes of 'The 8 Show' but while I liked the concept, I kind of wasn't interested in any of the introduced characters at all. Tried 'Limit' (from the same mangaka as 'Life'), but eh there's something with forest settings that bore me (maybe trauma from The Walking Dead xD), so put it on hold.

The show I finally stuck by was 'Mr. Hiiragi's Homeroom'. The synopsis reminded me of "Class of Lies" (which I haven't even watched but know it exists because I'm such a MDL/MAL browsing addict xD). And my, what a great thing! Finished it yesterday, honestly the most "anime" jdrama I've seen so far! Basically everything about it screams "anime": directing, writing, music, characters. And it was such an emotional and moving series with fantastic OST! I don't know what you think about flashbacks, some people hate them, but personally I love them as means of learning about character backstories or past events. Also I really don't understand how something that MDL labels as "Action, Thriller, Mystery, Psychological", the site I watched it on lists as..... Comedy, School xdd

I'm also trying to get back to Bleach - an anime that I ignored the existence of for half of my life (along with Naruto or One Piece) because I had huge prejudice against the so called big three! But then earlier this year I had this battle action shonen mood and started Demon Slayer, and I found it so unbelievably bad that I needed a new shonen to get rid of the aftertaste xD That's when I tried Bleach, and to my full surprise, it turned out to be so interesting on so many levels, I remember thinking "this is a drama at heart and battles are just an addition" as opposed to Demon Slayer's 90% fight 10% (bad af) dialogues composition x)
But I probably made a mistake and paused the canon story to go back for a supposedly "good filler arc" and that's when my interest dropped x( Thinking if I should just forget about it and continue with the main story. Have you seen Bleach or just Naruto? I *probably* will give Naruto a try too in the future, now that I've broken through the mental barrier that lasted years :D

Ye I noticed you seem to watch a lot of BL don't you?. Totally not my thing tho (as one can expect :D). There is some 'GL' tagged anime that I really liked (Happy Sugar Life, Mai-Hime, Yuri Kuma Arashi) but it's always for a different reason, I never seek those out specifically :D
Phobossus Jul 30, 8:30 AM
Daaaamn it's so demotivating when I'm in the middle of writing but go full ape and lose it by an accident. MAL needs drafts! Or should I just use google docs rofl.

AoT - exactly the show that made me pledge to never watch ongoing series again lmao. All because of that bRiLliAnT watching pattern I came up with :v
Every year they released a season, I'd first watch the previous season and then the current as I wanted to be as up to date as possible with where I left off! And I started doing it as early as S2. But the further I moved, the more I would notice just "n-1 and n" isn't enough and I'm still missing information from earlier seasons. So at some point I was like "no, fuck off, I'm forgetting about you, lemme know when you're completed". Took 4-5 years to stack all of it, not falling for their "FINAL SEASON" baits was the hardest part! Worth it though, last year I went through a Titanovember where I marathoned it all once and for good :D

Heh, with Tokyo Revengers I also tested the "write down notes" option. The dedication xD But nah, in-betweens dont work well either, stack n watch is what I abide by most of the time! I know about manga, but since they'll animate it all anyway I'm fine just waiting :D

From the ending of Erased I just remember the rooftop scene and the attempt by the antagonist to push the MC off. Can't recall what I didn't like about it, maybe the final confrontation between the two felt too rushed? This is an issue I often have with otherwise great shows so could be it.

The Chinese shows I bump into on MDL indeed have loads of episodes lol. Haven't tried any of the long ones but if you say they like to suffer from pacing thats another argument against them lmao. Although I see they make a lot of historical/political/fantasy dramas that I could see myself get into. Like when I look at "Nirvana in Fire" or "Story of Kunning Palace" (or even the one you've mentioned you started, 'Ashes of Love' I suppose, although I don't necessarily fancy romance :D), they're something I def would like to check out one day! Btw it's funny how my mood can change over the months, as we speak I'm like "There's so much stuff I'll never have enough time to see all of it!" but some time ago it was "I doubt I'll ever find anything great to watch again *weep weep*". Breaks really do miracles!

Anyways, see your profile's growing slowly but steadily! NGE in favorites is always nice to see and I'm now pretty sure you should watch "Shoujo Kakumei Utena" - it's called NGE for girls for a reason haha. The profile pic doesn't quite reflect that. And from the brief conversation on the importance of soundtrack music or seeing as we both liked the OST in Pyramid Game / Life / Bitch x Rich, I wonder if I can transitively assume you'll love the music score in Utena! It's really one of a kind!
Phobossus Jul 27, 10:59 AM
Indeed I've seen them :D Tokyo Revengers just season 1 as I'm stacking the rest because I rather binge than wait years forgetting details of the plot etc lol. Will do a full rewatch once it's all finished, I liked it and the mangaka admitted his inspiration was Re:Zero (one of my favs in that genre). Erased was great too, I only remember not liking the ending (prolly not being original here I think it was the prevalent opinion). Have you seen the anime or live dramas, as I recall they exist too?

Ok the way you describe Twinkling Watermelon does make me want to at least give it a try :D Hope it's not too much slice-of-lify though. I also have an eye on Reset, a Chinese drama, high rated and essentially about a time loop that the ML and FL try to break out of by looking for a way to stop a bus accident from happening. Imagine I still haven't watched this despite knowing of its existence simply because the Chinese language puts me off lmao. I love the sound of Japanese, Korean, but my ears really reluctantly engage with Chinese/Thai. So far I have only watched two of the latter. Is that the case with you too or you don't really mind it? :)
Phobossus Jul 27, 2:09 AM
I haven't seen Twinkling Watermelon, how would you describe it in terms of the mood and the focus of the story? The kind of time travel shows I'm after are more along the lines of Steins Gate, Nine Times Travel, Signal, Re:Zero, Times, Kairos, God's Gift. So basically main character gets the means to modify the past in one way or the other and desperately tries to prevent some event from happening, but ends up getting unintended worse results and falls into deep despair as he continues to work towards his goal, or at least towards bringing back the original state that he ruined. So the heavier is the atmosphere, the better! Not sure if TW matches that criteria (from just the synopsis I saw), what do you think?

As for LoL, just wasn't my thing. I'd play something similar in my childhood (a custom map in Warcraft III, similar rules, mobs, towers, bases, item upgrades) and eventually got bored of it :D If I ever check Genshin I'll let you know though! I think I got some OST from that game in my playlist that I randomly found and really liked (some tiger boss fight? not sure).

About that scene in PB, as far as I remember it was only an act. But this movie as you'll see has room for different interpretations, I had to google a few things I wasn't sure about having interpreted correctly and know there's a lot of discussion :D
Phobossus Jul 26, 9:58 AM
I also used to think rap battles is something you would see in a series or when people like ERB make them for the lulz on youtube. But yes this universe actually exists outside of the internet :D And apart from random first timers etc there's like over hundred freestylers who are known and participate on a regular basis, many times a year, you even get the impression some of them literally don't do anything else with their lives xD

The usual small battles are concluded within an evening, but there is also a recurring one that's actually country wide and has preliminaries in 8 biggest towns (which are battles of their own), then around December all the local finalists meet in the capital city for the grand finale to win the so called "belt of the WBW (name of the battle) master". And as of few years also quite a bit of money, there are sponsors willing to put their cash into freestyle that's how much this "sport" has grown :D Obviously I don't drive around the country to visit all of them, but my favorite ones I try not to miss :3 (they're all uploaded on youtube anyway luckily but it's just not the same!)

Haha hell yeah, I swear nobody watches Asian dramas. In case of my circle of friends, not even girls. Like people will recognise Squid Game because it's on Netflix and that's about it. I have some irls that watch anime, some even frequently, but I can only talk kdramas on the internet lol. Also I think the common stereotype is that they're all romance comedies or soap operas and things of that sort, so I usually gotta do some explanation that what I watch usually is serious thrillers/dramas and I actually steer away from the stuff they associate kdramas with.

Hardly blame the unawareness though, before 2023 I don't think the thought of something like Asian dramas existing (let alone be worth digging into so much!) ever crossed my mind. I landed there by coincidence because I've watched all time travel drama anime that are worth watching but I was still thirsty for more (I was and honestly still am a huge sucker for the genre). Spent hours scrolling MAL despite knowing there's nothing more to find, and suddenly thought "what if it's time for another medium?!", googled and found "365 Repeat the Year" - and while that drama wasn't exactly a masterpiece, it was an eye opener for me: "Asian live shows kind of can give off the same vibe that anime do! This might be worth exploring."

As for games, I only played LoL of the ones you mentioned and very briefly like maybe few weeks. I should probably try Genshin for obvious reasons, but never find the time to - when it comes to MMO I'm usually on WoW with a bunch of friends playing PVP battlegrounds/arenas in the evenings. Kind of like LoL with two teams but there's only character vs character with a lot of more abilities than LoL heroes have, and without the bases and mobs :D

How do you like Perfect Blue so far? I found it to be a good watch and liked the psychological/avant garde elements, but didn't leave an impression on me that I thought it would for all the fame it has. The part I liked the most has to do with the ending so I gotta hold off until you finish :D
Phobossus Jul 25, 8:10 AM
So you also paint, such an artistic soul! Are the handcrafts your hobbies you developed on the side or do you study art? Or both :D

My mom found that in her a couple of years ago and paints in her free time. It started with painting on the canvas and then gradually shifted to doing graphics on a tablet. It's funny as a lot of what she creates looks like it was taken out of some kind of a psychological surreal soft horror. And coincidentally, I happen to like all these themes, especially in anime. She once randomly made a face painting that so much resembles Dina from AoT in her titan form!

As for my hobbies, they vary! I try to maintain a balance of in-doors and out-doors activities but sometimes one takes over another. There's a demon inside of me that needs to be controlled or I enter shut-in periods x) But it kinda comes and goes naturally. If I do too much hanging out with people, I almost always compensate it with some chill time alone for the next couple of days or weeks. And the opposite happens too of course.

From the obvious one that is watching anime/asian dramas that are usually on the darker psychological side, to the more nerdy activities such as playing games or coding personal projects for fun (I'm a dev), to the more earthly things like gym or electric scooter trips, to finally some pretty niche stuff like attending irl or watching online rap freestyle battles x) Last one might be a surprise given how it's completely on the opposite side of my OST music taste but yes - for some reason I also do enjoy watching people rap battle each other on the scene and I don't hate the beats!

Did you mention you play games? What kind of? :}
Phobossus Jul 24, 3:10 AM
That's interesting, I probably couldn't multitask like that :D When I'm watchin', I'm watching! And disable all other senses and body parts outside of eyes and ears. I know people who can play games/browse stuff on one screen and "watch" stuff on the other, but I can't really fathom how that works for them without two separate heads and brains lol.

Handcrafts though I can imagine as I'm guessing it doesn't need constant oversight at some level of experience and you can just do stuff on autopilot while focusing on the series? :) Maybe not exactly the same but I guess it's like if I were to watch tv while on a running machine without constantly checking if my legs are moving correctly x))

Pretty much the same regarding watching in phases :D Sometimes I'm afk for months. The longest watching streak I've had was in covid (predictably so), I remember telling people at some point that I've seen more anime within a year or two than for the past dozen years of my life xD Regret nothing!
Phobossus Jul 23, 8:05 AM
Yeah I'd have my own cell colour rules or other things as well lmao. Green for completed, yellow in progress, red for dropped. Didn't watch a lot of stuff back then so the prehistorical approach was tolerable once in a blue moon xD

Sure whatever suits you, I had maybe like 40-50 shows to fill when I first created MAL so just did a speed run. Can imagine how tedious it'd be to start from scratch now! And my 176 isn't even that much compared to some of the anime gladiators I run into daily - maybe you're one of them! But I'll get there one day :>
Phobossus Jul 22, 4:13 AM
"someone already took Slay_rylle"
Plot twist: that someone was you!

I also used to track what I watch/have already seen with just brain power but eventually figured physical lists are cooler :D With so much as 100+ watched (let alone some people who have hundreds) I'd probably forget about some series once I completed them. And I want to remember! In the ancient times I'd have an excel sheet on the drive, but eventually made it out of the cave into MAL & MDL :}

As for manhwas/webtoons, I think at least some of them are on MAL.
