I agree with your Maquia review. I finished the movie and was kind of disappointed. My main problem with the movie are the time jumps. I didn't really feel anything when Ariel died. His disease was not developed in the best way. In one moment he's healthy and young 5 minutes later he's like 50 and dying of a disease. If you don't give the viewers time to take things in, the plot is going to be rushed.

Overall, it's the same issue I have with Unlimited Blade Works great concept but bad execution.

I did check out your anilist profile and I probably will find something I like.

Ah, of course. And no worries for the lateness on the reply. I use AniList too, but I tend to stick moreso to MAL for whatever reason.

The background art is breathtaking. Character art is kinda meh for me, since it was a little flat. And as for the animation criticisms, I don't want to necessarily refute you since there was nothing jarring from me, but it was still decent.

The only issue I had with your Macquia review, is that you gave the art a 7. Like what? Did you even watch the movie or did the story just put you off so much that you forgot about the amazing backgrounds and seamless integration with the characters?

While I disagree with your review on Maquia, I liked the points you made and I understand why you did not like it as much. Thanks for the perspective ^^

dude is it cool if I quote from your Maquia review when I wanna talk about that movie, like you hit all the point i thought while watching it and I couldn't have said it any better.

It does seem lacking when I compare it to a majority of KyoAni, Shaft, and ufotable film works I've seen over the years. Though damn, those are on another level. But for real, the lines and features of the characters in the foreground got a bit rough at times when compared to all the nice scenery in the background. Would've been nice to see multiple parts to help with fleshing this story out a bit more, but not sure how much that would've really helped if the writers and such were just going to allow Maquia to meet up with the right characters at such opportune times regularly and stuff melodrama down our throats as if it was something absolutely delightful.

I told another online acquaintance that my experience with this movie was very much similar to the Children of the Whales anime that aired last Fall. Starts off with so much potential in its visual prowess and concepts of a race that ages differently from the typical human, yet succumbs to all the faults and shortcomings of the writing and overbearing emphasis on melodrama.

Yeah, no problem! I kind of miss the days when I used to churn out reviews and such, but I'm happy falling back under the radar and watching anime more in pure solitude.
