That's just the way matters of taste work. Take a hundred people, show them all the same anime and some will love it, some will enjoy it but think it's not that great, some will be ambivalent towards it, some will dislike it but think it's not that bad and some will hate it. It's just a natural aspect of life.

I would say, just engage with people who can have a civil discussion and ignore the people who get really worked up and can't handle someone having a different opinion. After all, you aren't going to change anyone's mind so getting worked up just causes you undue stress, raises your blood pressure and leaves you mad and all because someone didn't like the thing you liked or liked the thing you hated.

I don't think everyone does. It just seems that way because the type of person to get really butthurt over opinions they disagree with is also more likely to be very vocal.
