Yeah, the Kara movies are nice on the eyes, as well as the ears. That was my main motivation for starting them; the production values. Anything with Kajiura's music is at least worth a look.
The first two, as actual films, aren't great, though. The first is basically a filler, adding next to nothing, and the story is pretentious, drawn out and boring. If not for it being new to me, having lovely visuals and an awesome battle theme, I doubt I'd have bothered with the others. The second isn't great, either, it taking too long to cover very little, but at least it actually added something of value; revealing details about the main characters' pasts.
The third and fifth films are where it's at. The third is dark and disturbing, with rape, Elfen Lied-esque limb twisting and much better pacing. The fifth is the only two hour Kara flick released to date, and it's a complete mindfuck, the direction being top draw and raising it above the limitations of its basic story. There's also a wonderful animation sequence in it; one you'll know when you see.
I can understand you preferring your ecchi/comedy short 'n sweet, sure. Even I'm put off by 40-50 episode+ anime - I prefer to go through a lot of short anime rather than one big series.
GTO is a lot better without the filler and plot changes. It made me cringe when Onizuka looked around the school for ghosts. The manga is VERY close to a ten in my mind, but the anime is very much an eight.
No prob; I didn't say much, really. Assuming you've got it sorted, sweet. :)
hmm.
Blood+
Kaze no Stigma
Kämpfer
Chrono Crusade
D.Gray Man
and Black Cat
come to mind. hella good ones =]
look 'em up even if they dont look good. WATCH EM!
xD haha.
Heh, you like Canaan? I liked it pretty well too. I loved the first episode, especially how Shanghai is depicted from the point of view of Japanese in the anime. It was a hit while it was showing in the Yuri club, the one I rly spend my time posting in.
