I'm a moderate anime watcher. I like to focus more on the 'deeper' shows. As a kid I saw Dragonball, Pokemon and Digimon like most kids my age, which always gave Japanese animation a special place. I didn't see a lot of anime until recently though. Watching movies like Miyazaki's classics, Akira and Ghost in the Shell has really sparked my interest for Japanese animation again. So last year I started watching Neon Genesis Evangelion. I didn't think an animation series could have such an impact on me. After that I've been looking carefully for a next series which might equally touch me. Currently I'm checking out Ergo Proxy, which is very promising so far. I want to check out the darker, deeper anime series because I enjoy to be challenged and educated by whatever series I follow. Other shows on my list are Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost in the Shell 2.0, Monster and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I generally enjoy genres like Sci-Fi, Mystery, but also Psychological drama's are really up my alley.
