Let's continue our forum conversation here. I usually read the manga version if I really enjoyed an anime so much. You'll find some parts in the manga that were not included in the anime. For erased, you might want to check ch31 till end (around ch45). For death note as well, I think light's death is more dramatic in the manga (I think it's around ch105 onwards, ends at 110).
As for similar anime, the most similar to death note is Code Geass. Similar to death note wherein you have a prota and antagonist as the same character, internal dialogues, questions about society and morals, and other psychological aspects.
As for anime similar to Erased, the theme "time travel to the past to save ass" is also explored in Re: Zero (suspense/thriller/isekai), Stein's Gate (sci-fi/thriller/romance), Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika (not your typical powerpuff girl setting, unexpectedly dark).
Other mystery anime you might want to check out are Gosick (I read somewhere that it's storytelling is similar to Sherlocke Holmes), Future Diary (characters have diaries that tell their future), Detective Conan (detective stuff. This is pretty long though, about 1k eps already if I'm not mistaken).
This may be a lot, but I recommend you watch Code Geass next. It's about on the same level as death note in my opinion.
