Welcome to my profile! ^_^
Just a computer engineering college student chilling and enjoying some Japanese goodness.
I have been watching anime as far as I can remember. Been reading manga & light novels since 2013.
I have been learning Japanese as a hobby for 9 years now but I still have a long way to go ~~~
I mainly score and rate based on my personal enjoyment and a little on the plot points and character development.
I rarely drop anything.
I'd say I'm a huge fan of animanga and Japanese media in general.
I started anime since before I could walk or talk (I can't say I was conscious then lol). There'd be (censored to be suitable for kids) dubbed anime on TV all the time and I'd watch a lot of it. More specifically: Detective Conan, Doraemon, Cinderella Monogatari, Baby and Me, and many more.
As I grew up, I'd still always watch it without being aware of it being "anime". I just thought it was cartoons or animated media.
Once I reached middle school, my family finally installed a router and I started using the internet. I mainly used it to play some casual online games. I really loved Detective Conan even back then so I thought I'd re-watch it online and see whether it ended or not yet. That's when I finally learned that it is originally in the Japanese language and I binged watched all of the aired episodes (about 700 episodes lol) in a few weeks. I was star struck. I really loved the OPs and EDs as well. Anime & J-Pop Unlocked in 2012 ✔
After that, it didn't take me much to watch many more anime, and understand demographics like shounen, shoujo, etc.. I remember watching Kaichou wa Maid-sama as my first shoujo. And from the comments, I learned that there still a continuation of the story in something called manga (lol). It was a foreign and amazing experience. From then on, I also read Detective Conan's manga, Akatsuki no Yona and many others. Manga Unlocked in 2013 ✔
In the same year, I watched Sword Art Online as my first seasonal anime. I really loved it and after season 1 ended I found about the existence of Light Novels. The Sword Art Online Progressive series especially captured my attention for a while. LNs Unlocked in 2014 ✔
I'm not sure when but maybe a year later, I was on YouTube watching some music videos and anime clips. Then I discovered AMVs and I got addicted to them at once. Shortly after I watched an AMV that used Japanese Nightcore music. I remember watching like a huge amount of Nightcore videos after that. One day I watched a Nightcore video that had a cute red haired anime boy and it turned out to be 707 from Mystic Messenger and so I found out I can play games where I can fall in love with fictional characters. AMVs & Mobile Otome Games Unlocked in 2015~2016 ✔
At the same time, I tried to consume all the content I could find on Detective Conan: OVAs, Anime Movies, Live Action Movies all thanks to the DCTP team. (shout out to those who remember this translation group). I found out that there was a Nintendo DS game called Detective Conan & Kindaichi Case Files: Chance Meeting of Two Great Detectives. (which is basically a crossover between Detective Conan and Kindaichi Case Files series). I HAD to play it. I didn't have an NDS but I discovered Emulators. Live Action Adaptations, Emulators & VNs Unlocked in 2015~2016 ✔
I forgot to mention that at the beginning of 2015 I started learning and studying Japanese and I still am till this day. Learn Japanese Unlocked in 2015 ✔
Not sure if this is related to weebness or not but I'll tell you anyway. In 2016, Miraculous Ladybug aired and I was absolutely in love with it especially the love square thingy. The important point is that I discovered Fanfiction and Fan Comics Dubs because of it. And so, I started reading fanfiction about whatever anime or game I was into after that.Fanfiction Unlocked in 2016 ✔
Now moving on to more recent years, in 2019 I had just joined college and Solo Leveling was getting so much attention and so I tried reading my first Web Novel. Saying it was interesting would be an understatement. On another note, I had always known about the existence of Korean Manhwa and Chinese Manhua but I was never tempted to read them. Solo Leveling was the spark that guided me to start reading them. WNs, Manhwa & Manhua Unlocked in 2019 ✔
In 2020, I was watching Boku no Hero Academia for the first time and while I was browsing fan content for the Kacchako ship (honestly the reason I started watching BNHA in the first place lol) I found out that's there a 2.5D stage play??? I watched it raw and I loved how they utilized stage acting techniques and special effects to tell the story. I have watched 10s of these 2.5D stage plays till now. [They're awesome, really recommend btw]. (2.5D) Stage Plays Unlocked in 2020 ✔
Now picture this, I was bored so I go back to rewatch one of my favourites: Kaichou was Maid-sama. I reread the manga as well and then by pure chance I find out that it had a drama cd??? I listened to it and it was so hard to understand compared to Stage Plays since I had to completely rely on my Japanese skills (unlike stage plays where I can see some interactions and visuals). Anyway, I liked it and eventually started searching for more. I was greeted by the heart warming Otome Drama CDs which I fell in love with listening to and still do till now. Moreover, it made me appreciate seiyuus even more and be able to recognize many of them at once in any anime I watch. It also prompted me to start playing Otome Games on Consoles like Nintendo Switch and not just stick to mobile ones to be able to enjoy their voices more. (Otome) Drama CDs & Console Otome Games Unlocked in 2021 ✔
And so, this is my journey as a Japanese media fan and thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Thanks for dropping by. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
