Here are my thoughts on each of them:
Emma: I agree that it is underrated. I also think it is rare to find a historical romance that is mature and isn't filled with unnecessary drama. If I ever have the time, I would read the manga. Halfway through, I realized that the creator of the work is also the same creator of Otoyomegatari (which I have started reading). Anyways, I'm glad that Emma has a happy ending and that it actually has an ending to begin with lol.
Dorohedero: Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. I'm not a big fan of MAPPA's works with the type of anime they're producing; I think they're focused on spitting out anime that are spectacles with weak storylines, lack of world-building and unappealing characters. However with Dorohedero, I think the plot is easier to follow + is more interesting and most of the cast is likable. I think the anime in general + its gore was easier to digest because of its comedy. Hoping this anime won't disappoint me if they come out with a sequel.
EDIT: LOL just as I was typing this MAL dropped the sequel entry to Dorohedero!
Golden Kamuy: Based on its ratings and how it's well-received by viewers, I knew it was good, but not that impressive. Idk how historically accurate they are in representing the Ainu and their culture, but I have a feeling the creator did their homework. I appreciate how much we got to learn about their culture and how they're not used just for "the sake of the plot". TBH I wasn't too sure what you meant by "borderline yaoi" until I saw the otter meat episode, haha. While that was weird, I don't know if anything would ever top Edogai. But yea, I think I've watched enough Gintama and JoJo episodes to not be phased with the burly men. I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I think that was more welcoming to see than having to watch another anime filled with girls doing fan-service shots. Golden Kamuy at times did go into strange territories, but I do like how comedically unhinged it can get, yet turn serious in the last half of the episode naturally. I just finished the second season and the last few episodes got me at the edge of my seat. Looking forward to Season 3 and Season 4.
If I were to pick a favorite out of your gifts, it would be Golden Kamuy, followed by Emma, and then Dorohedero. Thanks again for the gifts, I've enjoyed each of them for their unique character; I hope you liked your own gifts as much as I have.
P.S. I don't think it was intended on your part, but I thought you recommending all 3 anime with great female leads/supporting roles was awesome. I'm always looking to see if the anime I'm watching have any interesting and strong female leads.
